Amenable hosts, clean rooms, fun environment, great facilities. The Bad Jelly is the best lodging I've ever had on the road. Very good value. The rooms are worth every penny that you pay for them and then some. I really can't recommend this place enough.

After the earthquake on November 14, 2016, my husband and I were stranded at the Puhi Puhi campsite (DOC site) with our camper van. We hiked out and made our way to Kaikoura to contact our families back in Canada. After that was done, we realized we needed a place to stay as we had no access to food, water... More

At the beginning we wanted to stay in Mike's place for only a night but his welcome was soooo warm and friendly that we decided straight away (30minutes after we came) to stay two nights instead. We did not regret ! The room was good, the ambiance was really cosy and friendly. We enjoy our stay there and Mike was... More

We are a young couple who have been travelling around New Zealand on the kiwi experience bus, and as we wanted to book a private room for our 3 nights in Kaikoura, we decided to go for bad jelly. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile and a handshake by the owner Mike. He gave us... More

We enjoyed our time in this hostel, it was very clean and well looked after and really warm. The showers were amazing and the toilets are so clean. Mike was a good host for 'Jelly Packers' and he does everything such as cleaning it and making sure is well maintained. We will be sure to visit again Kaikoura and stay... More

It's such a cozy hostel here! The Lady owner is kind and friendly! There are not many rooms, so everything is organized! The house is next to the road but trust me, you won't feel noisy at all! I can tell the owner must operate here with 100% passion and heart, tidy and clean everywhere! The most important is all... More

I stayed for 2 nights. Everything was welcoming and tidy. It is a good place to relax and just enjoy the day. The beds were provided with linen and even a towel was there. The kitchen is fully equipped, a washing machine is also there. So, you've got everything you need. I recommend that place very much.

I'd wanted to stay at another accomodation in Kaikoura but they were booked out and recommended Bad Jelly, I am so pleased it worked out that way! This place is under new ownership and they've got the right idea. We wish them every success, they deserve such!! The rooms - not dorm rooms, but private rooms - are small, but... More
