We loved our short stay at Hapuku Lodge. Their tree houses were all full, so we stayed in a room in the lodge. We were so pleasantly surprised with the spaciousness and beauty of it. It was a very lovely room. We were fascinated by...More
We were really impressed by the standard of New Zealand lodges, but this one was easily the best.
The rooms are built in the style of (very fancy) tree-houses and the views, especially from the top levels, are stunning, with beautiful countryside and frequently deer...More
One of the most unique and scenic hotels we have ever been to. The rooms were built like a tree house, open views of the deer and rabbits all around. Great amenities, dinner was superb. It was the most memorable stop of our two week...More
I am only giving this hotel a 4, because for the price, we expected a little more. I would certainly rate it a 5 star if the price was less. We had two rooms, one treetop and then one in the "lodge." The lodge room...More

There is also very positive news that the main state highway south of Kaikoura (SH1) is likely to be opened before the 20th December.
You could also look at taking a helicopter or fixed wing flight in and out. I can highly recommend this as a way to see the coastline, and is a wonderful experience. Hapuku are offering a significant subsidies for this as I am aware it can be expensive. Trailfinders should be able to give you the full information on this, let me know if they cannot. If you have car hire I am sure they can look at changing it around. It is not like you need it at Bay of Many Coves anyway, and they have a helipad.
