Sadly we only had tiem for one night here adn we arrived late in the evening. However it is a lovely motel which i woudl throughly recomernd and the welcome was second to none. You should go there as it is excellent value too and much better vlalue than a hotel we stayed at in Kaikoura before we had discovered...

We initially chose the Sails for it's close proximity to the Dolphin Encounter for our pre- booked 5.30am trip! It's just a stone throw down the road from here and around 5 minutes along the beautiful coast to town. Deb's passion is to ensure you see as much of what Kaikoura has to offer as possible during your day, and...

I can only echo what other reviews have said about the owners being very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and facilities good. It was only a short walk to the dolphin encounter location, and a short drive to the whale watching location. Deb also recommended some great places to eat. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed here for one night and would have loved to stay for another but the place was fully booked. Deb and Ted, the owners are very friendly and go out of their way to help wiht anything that you need, inlcuding booking trips for you. We felt as though we were leaving friends - and that was after one...

Our room at the Sails motel was a decent size for a short stay and had all the facilities we would need. It included a small outdoor area with furniture. The style of the rooms is a little out of date but it was still clean and comfortable. The motel is set back from the road but not too far...

The couple who run this lovely place, tucked in a secluded niche off the waterfront street, are the friendliest, most helpful, sweetest innkeepers I've ever met. The only complaint about the room is that there is no AC, which usually is not a problem in Kaikoura, but the night I stayed it happened to be exceptionally warm. Other than that,...

A well-kept, no frills motel, with attentive service in a nice location, steps from the shore. Good value relative to the pricier options in Kaikoura. The dolphin swim outlet was a block away, while whale-watching and town center was a minute drive.

I stayed in Kaikoura three nights and had a great time. Like most hotels, Sails is a short walk from the town centre. The accommodation is no frills and there is no ocean view, however the room was spacious and quiet. The best part about the hotel was the staff: Deb and Ted picked me up from the station and...

Cosy, comfortable, peaceful and extremely welcoming. One of the best places I stayed on my NZ trip. As other reviewers have mentioned, it does not have all the facilites that some places offer (e.g. hairdryers, guest laundry, satellite TV) so if these are essential to you, you need to go elsewhere. But it makes up for this in the location...
