To be honest you would not come to Sails for the views but we received the warmest welcome of our five week trip here. Ted and Debs obviously love what they do and it shows in the way they look after their guests. Nothing is too much trouble - we lost count of the number of times Debs rearranged out...

Arriving at Kaikoura via Trans-Coastal train from Picton, Ted kindly arrived, as planned, to collect us. Deb was bubbly and friendly and quickly planned our itinerary for our 24 hr stay! Our room was the middle of 3 studios - just off the main road next to the ocean- and basically provided all that you need for a short stay...

Deb and Ted give a great welcome and take care that you are having a great time throughout your stay. Deb gives brilliant tour advice, and we saw things and had great experiences that we would have missed but for her. (The Puhi Puhi Valley and Donegal House were great, and we wouldn't have found the lovely peninsula cliff walk...

Good location, not far from centre. Clean and bright room provides everything needed for a stay in Kaikoura. Tv and internet is not required, you are in NZ afterall. Deb and Ted very welcoming and accomodating. Swimming with dolphins is a must (Discovery Centre is just round the corner).

The rooms had no internet facility and only 1 TV channel worked well enough to view. Good value and location. Deb and Ted were super hosts and could not do enough for us, just a shame they did not have better facilities.

We stayed one night at Sails Motel Kaikoura. It is an average motel which proved somewhat disappointing. We expected it to be on the Esplanade with a sea view, but it is up a narrow driveway and set back 50 meters off the Esplanade, closely surrounded by trees. It has no views. We had a huge unit with a separate...

The Sails Motel is a beautiful, quiet motel. We stayed in the apartment, which was very spacious and well-set up. There is a double bed in the lounge room, which also had access to the bathroom. Then there was a seperate bedroom with two single beds, where our daughter slept. This meant we could just put her down and didn't...

This is a very nice quiet unit [one of two] set in a garden behind the owner's home. It is spotlessly clean and has a kitchenette for those who wish to self cater although we didn't as were were in the home of the famous Kaikoura crayfish. The owner Deb is a lovely lady and is only to happy to...

We stayed at the Sails Motel for just one night at the end of November and were very impressed. Communication with Deb prior to our trip was excellent and she was a great host during our short stay, giving us good advice (thanks for the ginger tip for the Whalewatch!) and checking up on us before she finished for the...

The help and assistance given by our hosts was invaluable. We felt like part of their extended family and nothing was too much trouble. We did the whale and dolphin tour - absolutely amazing although a bit expensive. Coastal walks provide a great opportunity to see local fur seals, although don't get too close! We only had a couple of...
