My husband and I recently visited Retiro Lodge for 2 nights and stayed in the Barn. We had a great visit and a relaxing, perfect end to our 10 days touring the south island. The room was spacious, quiet, comfortable bed and best of all in the middle of a farm! We were able to walk the property and visit...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Retiro Park Lodge. The extensive grounds include not only beautiful trees and flowers but a herd of alpacas as well. Robert, the proprietor, made many helpful suggestions, which enhanced the time we spent in Nelson and its environs. The rooms were lovely and comfortable. Robert is an excellent cook who clearly takes pride in...

Calm and beautiful place to stay only a few miles away from Nelson. We enjoyed the clean and nicely decorated interior as well as having a stroll around the property, watching the abundant nature and some farm animals. The owner is knowledgeable and caring, with whom it was fascinating talking to. We'd come any time again spend some time in...

Great location with a lovely rural atmosphere, rooms spacious and comfortable, everything that is required for a lengthy stay. Sumptuous breakfast served each morning in the conservatory. Challenging hiking trails to suit all ages wandering through the property whilst visiting the miniature horses, donkeys, alpacas, llamas. Check out the vineyard and olive Grove and the awesome views from the viewpoint

After driving up a country road, we came to Retiro Lodge with beautiful grounds and many, many animals. Robert was there to greet us and show around. There are alpacas, ducks, minature horses, donkeys and bees. There is a vineyard to walk through as you roam the property. Robert is engaging and loves to share his feeling with you. Breakfast...

I loved my stay at the Retiro Park Lodge. Robert was such a joy to chat with and always went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. I ate at Victor's restaurant, as well, Cafe Max. The food was to die for. The breakfast in the gorgeous Garden Room was unforgettable. The room (The Barn) was spacious, clean...

We had planned a very busy trip in New Zealand with lots of moving around, lots of driving and from the web site it looked like Retiro Park Lodge would be a good place to stop and relax for a few days. We were right... Robbert and Victor were great hosts and the property is spectacular and in fact proved...

We travel a lot and to many nice and luxury places, however Retiro Park Lodge comes up as one of our absolutely most memorable and lovely place to stay at. We had to extend our stay, we have never experienced such a wonderful breakfast (and we love breakfasts) in such a beautiful setting. Our hosts, Robert and Victor has a...

Perfect quiet rural location, lovely hosts who cooked a delicious breakfast each morning and served in the conservatory. Some challenging hiking trails to take us further into the countryside with spectacular views whilst enjoying the company of the miniature horses, alpacas, donkeys, llamas and, of course, the cheeky ducks and chooks. Accommodation is spacious, comfortable and complete with all facilities...

Retiro Park Lodge offers friendly, personalyzed, memorable accommodation in an oasis of quiet country luxury: Surrounded by an extensive garden, in a 90-acre park-like property, nestled amongst hills and sitting along the river in beautiful Teal Valley, but minutes away from Nelson City’s bustle. The property rears Llamas and Alpacas that roam freely in the paddocks surrounding the lodge and also has its own producing vineyard, olive and almond groves. Our Bed and Breakfast is a destination on its own and the perfect base to explore the region’s most sought after attractions: it is within easy reach for day excursions from “The Abel Tasman”, “Kahurangi” and “Nelson Lakes” National Parks and “The Marlborough Sounds” and its wine growing region. ... more   less
