Had dinner in Russell after a day of cruising the bay. The Duke of Marlborough was the perfect place to end a wonderful day: the staff were friendly and efficient, the food was delicious ( 'Taste of New Zealand' for two as entree and the slow-cooked lamb shoulder for two), and the prices reasonable. The location is wonderful, providing a...

Had dinner at the Duke of Marlborough on a recommendation that it was the best seafood in town. Busy Sunday night and the staff were struggling to keep up. Oysters weren't available and for a restaurant that was supposed to offer the best & freshest seafood, the menu was surprisingly lacking in seafood options. Enjoyable entrees - calamari and mussels...

Lovely evening meal on the front verandah (it's better than sitting in the restaurant!) Fabulous view watching the world go by right on the waterfront. Certainly not a budget meal out but worth it in that setting.

This spectacular old building is on the water in Russell and oozes charm. The room was very large and modern and beautifully appointed. The view from our room took our breath away. The service was first class and the continental breakfast was fresh and tasty. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was reasonably priced yet amazing. Best stop in...

The Duke in Russell is amazing. So much history and such a lovely old building. Staff really friendly and we had dinner there on the deck overlooking the bay which was scenic and amazing. Dinner was superb. Highly recommend eating there. Rooms are spacious with air con and wifi. We also had a little deck to sit out on. Highly...

Excellent from start to finish. Rooms very high spec and clean, lovely bathrooms. Absolutely spectacular views out over the bay right outside. Continental breakfast was included and very nice. If you're in Russell and they have vacancies, stay here!

We had been recommended this and were pleased to have taken the ferry across from Paihia. We both had the seafood chowder which was delicious. Our table was on the covered terrace and had great views of the bay.

Even though there was an elaborate description of the dish, even if I ha a microscope it would have been hard to find some of the components mentioned on the menu.. I must say the lamb tasted well, but the preparation of it was not great , as there were a lot of fat and grizzle on the meat. there...

We enjoyed the live music in the afternoon and some local beers in a good atmosphere. The meals were nice too, we had fish and chips. The inside of the hotel is decorated well, lots of history in this nice little town.

Visited for dinner with family during a short stay in the Bay of Islands. Old fashioned surroundings and good old fashioned service. The food was excellent, as was the service, my wife had the butterscotch fondant for dessert and we all had pudding envy! Thoroughly recommend.
