Had a wonderful lunch, fish and chips are great with wasabi peas, local beer was cold. Service was fast and friendly and the surprise drink for free for our (twins) birthday a real treat. Lovely setting overlooking the harbour adds to the old charm ambience of the historical hotel.

If you are planning a trip to Russell you MUST go to the Duke. It remains the 'meal of my trip'. Sitting on the deck, overlooking the water with good food and wine - it doesn't get any better than this!

We went for a group dinner, the place has amazing ambience and character with awesome views across the bay. We arrived and the place was already busy, no trouble at all, we had a set menu (47 of us) and had some good choices. The staff where great and when the food arrived it was great, I had the lamb...

Tried to book in to stay about two months prior but all booked out. Turned up on spec off the tour boat at Christmas /New Year, as you can stop off here and go on to Paihia free. So, no booking and around 1pm it was pot luck. VERY busy. But, surprisingly we were greeted immediately asked to wait all...

We aspire to stay here sometime but 2 evening dinners have been just fabulous, the chefs are excellent as are the dining staff, all totally professional. The view from the verandah whilst eating is exceptional but it is the food that is absolutely gorgeous.

Outstanding! One of the best meals we have had in NZ to date. The Lamb Rump main and Hot Smoked Fish Salad entree were superb. Outside terrace dining with a beautiful water view and live soloist playing guitar waterside whilst we were dining. Service was efficient and courteous.

The setting overlooking the Bay is beautiful. The building and restaurant are full of charm. We booked a table for dinner at 6pm which we thought would enable us to have a quiet, relaxed dinner before catching the ferry back. It was anything but quiet. Indeed it was heaving and noisy and it was exhausting just seeing the waiting staff running...

Well there is no doubt that an evening dinner at The Duke watching the sunset is a beautiful experience - the meal was good but just fell short of matching the setting. We shared some tempura and Rockefeller oysters, both nice but not exceptional, and then had the "hakipura" fish - unfortunately my wife's fish was slightly over cooked while...

We stayed at the Duke for a special treat whilst holidaying in the Bay of Islands. And indeed a treat it was! The service was outstanding, the food was a wonderful dining experience, and the room was absolutely delightful.

Food was great especially the tomato mozzarella salad made from home grown tomatoes! We were well served by a lovely lady from Slovakia! Highly recommended but reservation is a must to get a nice...
