Les chambres et lieux communs sont certes un peu spartiates mais tout ça est compensé par l’accueil de la chaleureuse propriétaire et de son fabuleux rice & curry ! L’établissement est idéalement situé pour entrer au parc d’horton plains par le sud.

This is a difficult review to write for me, because I'm torn between my desire to reciprocate the hosts' kindness and my desire to keep reviews honest. First the positives: The family running this property are really warm, genuine and caring people. They welcomed us with tea, and arranged great fried noodles for dinner at dirt cheap prices. They took pains to ensure we were happy, arranged tuk-tuk for our trip to Horton Plains next morning, gave us packed breakfast etc. When we came back from the trek, the lady was preparing the SL new year's lunch and invited us to join them but we had to drive a long way so she packed us some delicious sweets she had prepared herself. It was lovely to meet such decent honest people making a living from their homestay in this tiny village. We had dinner in the common dining room with other guests which was a good experience. But the bedroom was very basic, and the beds were really bad, even for a budget hostel. Lumpy yet thin pillows, Very thin mattresses, put on a base with half the slats missing. I could feel the slats sticking into my back all night at odd angles, and woke up sore. The house is an old village house - plumbing and décor is very basic. The ensuite bathroom was the worst I've seen travelling around the world for a long time. They had a somewhat better, tiled one which we did not use. This place maybe good for a backpacker but they don't charge $10, they charge more than what we paid in Ella for a great modern clean hill top room with a balcony view at breakfast. So this is not a bargain. You'd do much better to stay in Nuwara Eliya the night before your Horton Plains trek, and approach the NP from north. We had to choose this since we were driving around SL anti-clockwise and could only reach as far as Ohiya the night before. It is right opposite the train station - so be prepared to be woken up by the 4:30 am train.

This was a lovely, typical homestay run by a wonderful, friendly family who really looked after us. The room was clean and very comfortable, although the bathroom needed updating, but the Sri Lankan food was absolutely magnificent. For anyone visiting the area for World's End and wants an authentic Sri Lankan experience this is the place to stay.

When we arrived, we were met by very kind people. The first thing they did was ask us if we wanted anything to eat, and if we wanted tea. We had a nice cup of tea with delicious homemade cookies, while the lights were flickering and we were mainly sitting in the dark. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the power generator. We were handed candles very quickly. We didn't mind, it was rather adventurous. Due to the problem with the electricity, our phones did not charge (we didn't mind that either, since we always have a powerbank with us in case you absolutely need your phone). The hostess offered to boil water for us so we could shower, however, we chose not to shower in the complete dark. When we went to bed, we were a bit unpleasantly surprised by the mattress and the pillows; we barely slept because we were just not comfortable. We were handed an amazing breakfast-to-go the next morning when we went to World's End. The location for such an excursion is perfect. I do not know if it's possible to arrange a trip to World's End from this place, however, I think it is -- and if this family can't, they'll certainly know someone who can. I recommend staying here if you don't mind not being surrounded by luxury, and wish for a homey feel.
