Highlights
+ The whole experience was relaxing and inspiring
+ Our room had so many comfortable features including heated floors, separate rooms for bags/luggage, a separate toilet, a big bath and high-pressure shower.
+ The wifi was great and we were able to screen share to the TV with no issues
+ We made use of the excellent spa facilities, I wish the hours were open a little longer (later into the evening). The gym and wellness centre had thoughtful changing rooms.
+ Everything is very scenic and beautiful to look at, we had a pond with cute ducks outside of our room
+ On-site laundry facilities were handy

Areas for improvement
+ not necessarily an inconvenience but the car park is located at the front of reception and you can be driven via cart to your room with your bags in tow.

This experience would be great for winter or the cold, it was very relaxing and our only regret was not staying longer. We hope to be back in future.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback following from your stay with us. We feel incredibly fortunate to be nestled in such a peaceful and tranquil setting, with a fantastic landscaping team who takes great care of the grounds to ensure our guests feel relaxed. The ducks are certainly part of our Millbrook family so I am happy to know they came to hang out with you too! Again, thank you for your lovely comments, it means a lot to the team to read feedback like yours. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future, for a longer stay - perhaps a cozy winter staycation, which is a particularly magical time to visit.

Stayed with family at the Millbrook Resort in Arrowtown over a weekend in August-September. We were driven to our room in a buggy by a very nice porter and shown our room. The room itself was huge and had all the amenities you would need. The room in which I was in had the toilet separate from the shower and bathtub, which was interesting, but in this part of the world, it is the norm.

The room's location was tranquil, aesthetic and quiet. I also appreciate that you could cast your device on the TV, which was great if I didn't want to watch the local channels.

The pool and fitness centre was great. The staff who were working at the fitness centre were lovely and friendly.

Millbrook Restaurant was great as we had dinner there on one of the nights.

I also appreciate the Millbrook Shuttle that was available should we want to quickly go into exciting Queenstown.

Definitely recommend this place to those coming to the South Island for a visit!

We stayed in a Deluxe Studio for 10 days which was spacious and comfortable, and excellent value when taking into account the facilities the resort has to offer. The setting, landscaping and gardens are stunning. We did not find it necessary to eat out either in Arrowtown or Queenstown (free shuttles run regularly to both places) and took all our meals at one of the resort's eateries. Bikes can be hired - they are delivered to the resort by Arrowtown Bike Hire. The golf courses are exceptional; Coronet is stunning.
The staff were without exception efficient, friendly and obliging; the service we received could not have been better.

Dear John, What an absolutely perfect time of year to spend 10 days at Millbrook. You would have been lucky to experience almost every season in the past 10 days, ending off with the most fabulous sunshine and blue skies. You will need to come back in the winter to cap off the experience with a winter wonderland, then you can swap the bike hire for a set of skies or a glass of mulled wine! We look forward to welcoming you back to our little piece of paradise, we hope it is sooner rather then later.

We had a huge bedroom with easy chairs, desk and chair, walk-in closet, and a mini-fridge rather full of stuff for which you are charged. There was no A/C. The windows open but there were no screens. There was a balcony with a small table and two chairs to enjoy the great view. The bathroom was off the bedroom and had a sink, shower, and separate bathtub but no toilet. The toilet was in a separate tiny room off the entranceway hallway. The toilet room has no sink. This is unacceptable. I do not trust all the other resort guests to go from the toilet room, down the hall into the bedroom then into the bathroom to wash their hands after every time they use the toilet. This is unsanitary and an unacceptable room layout. I made sure to use a napkin to hold the serving utensils at breakfast. The resort has lovely grounds and is quiet.

Dear Elle, Thankyou for taking the time to provide honest feedback on your stay at Millbrook. You provided a perfect description of our large Deluxe Studio rooms, which have lounge chairs, desk, walk-in closet, and an extensive mini-bar to ensure our guests are well stocked with anything they may need throughout their stay. The balcony or patio of our deluxe studio rooms allow our guests to enjoy stunning views of the golf-course or streamside. It is quite common to have the toilet separate to the shower and bathtub in New Zealand. This ensures those having a shower can remain private without stopping another individual from using the toilet. That being said I do understand your concern for hygiene especially considering the world-wide health issues we have experienced the past few years. We have Villas, Resort Homes, and Luxury Retreats with different bathroom layouts that you may find more suitable on future stays. I do apologize as this was not brought to our attention during your stay, our team would have been more than happy to help move you to a different room type you felt more comfortable in. We hope you give us the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and create the perfect stay for you.

It’s such a shame that a previously outstanding resort has let its standards fall so far.
There is no daily housekeeping, rooms are serviced every 3 days if you stay more than 5 days. No beds made, no bathrooms cleaned, no supplies refreshed, no bins emptied. For a cost in excess of $400 per night this is unacceptable.
They call this a “green initiative “ and offer a $25 a night credit which must be spent in the resort. It has nothing to do with green at all. Just poor service.

The previously outstanding breakfasts have been replaced by a very average 3 star motel style buffet breakfast offering.

Very disappointing experience and after 3 previous visits I am not keen to return.

Dear Kerrin, Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback regarding your most recent stay at Millbrook Resort. I had a great conversation with you during your stay at the resort in which I think gave you an understanding of the challenges and unique situation the resort is currently facing. It was a pleasure to get to know you, your feelings as a return guest, and insight from a conference and guest perspective. You had some great small ideas that we look to implement as well. From our end I hope you enjoyed the complimentary wine I sent to your room and complimentary room service given the following day. Our Greener Stay is a sustainable initiative we are very much proud of, we believe further communication regarding the environmental impact we have saved and contributions we have made would help guests understand the journey Millbrook is on. This is something we are currently working on and look forward to rolling out. As I said during our conversation I would very much be happy to organize your next stay with and take care of any specific requests or cleaning requirements you may have.

We spent 1 week here and all we heard was excuses for lack of staff. It’s near impossible to book a table at any of their 3 restaurants because they are only opening half the seats. They also have this “green initiative “ which gives you a credit of $25 per day to skip room cleaning. That means no carpet cleaning, no removal of bins, no top up of amenities, no cleaning of cups, no beds made, no sinks cleaned,no cleaning dirty plates.. nothing. Globally “green” means no towel washing but Millbrook use that excuse to remove all responsibility.. if this was a 2 star motel on the highway, I would not be complaining. But we paid more than $500 / night which is a nonsense. Some nights we had to go to arrow town because we couldn’t eat in other than have a take away pizza from their room service..
Also the breakfast is a ripoff.. their chef will only make 2 eggs fried or poached. They have a few basic cereals and decent fruit selection but no ala cart. The average hotel in Queenstown would do a much better job for half the price.
Overall it’s a great pity they have descended to such chaotic incompetence. It is a nice property and the staff were trying their best , but we won’t be coming back.

Dear Keith, I am sorry to hear your one week at Millbrook did not meet your expectations. Our team has had to be incredibly dynamic and agile with the staffing and supply issues faced by many globally. We are proud at our teams ability to get creative and move forward with different strategies and concepts in order to provide the best experience to as many guests as possible. Our capacity to take care of guests in our restaurants and accommodation has been limited as we prefer to focus on providing exceptional service whilst ensuring we maintain the well-being and health of our team members. I apologize regarding the miscommunication regarding our Greener Stay program. Millbrook has put a lot of effort in measuring the environmental impact this program has and we are looking forward to communicating our results in the near future. This program is a sustainable initiative the resort will continue to provide moving forward - that being said we would be more than happy to remove rubbish, provide amenities, and organize any other special or unique request a guest may have. We truly do wish each guest to be able to escape the everyday. I do thank you for noting your experience as it allows us to continue to adjust our operations to ensure we are moving in the best direction. It is an incredibly unique time and it is our guest and team members who make this place special so your feedback is much appreciated. I also thank you for highlighting our staff were trying their best. Our team members work tirelessly and are incredibly passionate caring individuals who have kept the resort humming along through these incredibly difficult times. It would be a great pity for us if you didn't return, we hope you give us the opportunity to serve you better in the future.

It was a trip of two halves. Our original accomodation was in Settlers Way. It was a dated older property clearly in need of refurbishment that was one down from a zone of construction. The outdoor area was scruffy and poorly appointed with two old wooden chairs (for accomodation that caters for 4) and a couple of bench seats. Certainly not what we were expecting as the luxury accomodation promoted, at the premium rate charged. We expressed our concerns after our second night and were immediately offered to be moved to another property to the west. This property was magnificent and precisely what we had expected (maybe because it is pictured on the website). We received a bottle of wine for the inconvenience of moving mid trip. However when we raised the issue of a discount for the nights spent at the previous property, we were advised both properties were viewed as the same quality and the difference was merely a matter of taste. We pushed back as the first property was in no way comparable to the second in terms of quality. Plastic box shower, older towel rails, in need of carpet and couch update, unkempt outdoors. After a couple of emails and a call we received a discount of 10% per night we spent in the first property. This in no way reflects the disparity between the properties. And brought the accomodation down to $890 a night. In our view, extremely overpriced for its condition/quality given recent stays at other accomodation in the Queenstown area. Whilst we had a lovely time away and loved the second property (being exactly what we expected), it was frankly an unpleasant component of our trip to have to email regarding the state of the first property, to have to push for a discount that was entirely justified and then receive a token amount. If you do stay make sure you specify a property to the West. And maybe request pictures of you actual accomodation to avoid disappointment. I see Millbrook responds to every review on Trip Advisor. If they’d like to discuss this with me further I’m happy to do so.

Dear Janspro, We completely empathize with your feelings towards the first property we placed you in. Our East side properties have a classic French country style feel which many of our guests love and often specifically request for. We understand the style, décor, and furnishings did not meet your preferences or standards but are pleased our team we are able to swiftly move you to a property that you were able to enjoy for the duration of your stay. Our team has ensured that your preference of the West side has been added to your profile to ensure we are better able to take care of you in the future. Whilst we understand we did not get your allocation right on this occasion we do fully support our teams quick action, gesture of goodwill, and compensation. We hope you are able to see the care our team put into your experience and that you give us the opportunity to take care of you again in the future.

Great course in immaculate condition...which you would expect with the NZ Open starting in 10 days. Good pro shop and the staff were very attentive and helpful. Particularly appreciated the dedicated starter who kept everyone moving in the right direction and on time. Also appreciated having a food/bev cart on course on a Monday. $300 is a lot of cash to splash on a round of golf (especially when you're paying for you and the wife), but it's a primo facility and could not fault the course or the service.

We feel it is the small touches and luxury service that set aside from other courses and resorts, the team thoroughly enjoys taking care of our many different types of guests across the resort. We look forward to welcoming you and your wife back to the resort for another round in the near future.

Let's start with the good. The room was big, comfortable and clean and the grounds are lovely.

However, while the facilities were 5 stars, the mentality wasn't.

1. Front desk - after spending 5 days in the area, I feel that I can give better advice on what to do and see. The hotel was really unhelpful.

2. General service

A. Slow Internet
B. They don't clean the rooms or make the beds, because this is somehow bad for the environment? Sounds to me like a way to save money
C. The grounds are big and while walking isn't an issue, they offer to pick you up with a golf buggy. When I had suitcases I needed that, but it took so long for the buggy to come then I took the suitcase myself.
D. They don't know opening hours of the facilities on their own grounds and sent me to buy a coffee at a shop that closed 30 minutes earlier

3. Breakfast
A. At Breakfast I asked to change a poached egg to a boiled egg, but they said they refused to do that.

B. They have a juice machine whereby guests can squeeze their own juice. However this is not practical because to make 1 glass of orange juice the guest would need to peel by hand 6 oranges. So again, a gimic rather than a genuine service. I was at breakfast for 30 minutes and no one made juice. Well done to the hotel, they saved money.

C. For an espresso they charge extra.

So bottom line, the grounds and rooms are nice, but the service mentality is not generous or helpful and not similar to the other 5 star hotels we stayed at. This place looks 5 star and charges a lot, but the service mentality is really not good.

At Millhouse restaurant, I tried to order the snapper without the accompanying vegetables and was told no. In order to get any bread, another member of my party had to order an entrée (starter) she couldn’t eat. Request for well done beef was treated with disdain—server delivered the food, then ignored us for 20 minutes and the rest of the party finished eating before we finally were allowed to send it back. The property was otherwise very good.

You can walk but the resort does a 24/7 shuttle service which is free. They took us in for dinner one night and we got that restaurant to call them when we had finished. They do the same if you fancy lunch or a shop.

The room we occupied would certainly accommodate 2 young children with parents. You would need extra bedding - a cot or rollaway bed.
