We popped in here for an impromptu dinner and were pleasently surprised. We were first greeted by an amazing staircase leading to the accomodation. And then we walked into the beautiful heritage dining room. Our meals were well presented and very tasty, creamy garlic prawns, tomato and bacon soup for entree followed by chicken with avocado and camembert plus a... More

We didnt stay here - just had lunch. $12 lunch is hard to beat and was very satisfactory. The Hotel itself has to be seen - very early 20th century - grand old staircase. Lovely. They apparently have various room rates to cater for all budgets.

We didn't stay at the Empire only ate in the dining room. We had looked in another hotel in town and were not impressed by the atmosphere and at least the Empire appeared to have some character. Food orders, from a standard pub menu, were taken at the bar rather than the table. Service was not noteworthy, neither friendly nor... More

Not the first time I've been to the Empire and probably won't be the last. On a Sunday night in Queenstown, there simply are no other options. Normally I'd say that I have no idea how such a business even exists - if it weren't for the fact that it has a monopoly and of course pokies. You simply wouldn't... More

We had two comfortable nights in an ensuite room in the dead of winter (snow on the high peaks all around). The room was slightly tatty, old-fashioned and most importantly warm with all the basics covered. The bathroom was renovated and modern, the shower was excellent. Breakfast of cereal and toast downstairs in the dining room was perfectly adequate. I... More

My husband and I spent one night at The Empire Hotel during our honeymoon. We had previously eaten a meal here the year before and it was so delicious we couldn't wait to return and stay in the old historic hotel. We booked many weeks in advance to ensure we got a large room with private ensuite. Upon our arrival... More

The old bed squeaked all night, the resident ghost intervened at times, encouraging my efforts and cheering my accomplishments. This was apparently typical and even expected at such a historic icon of a hotel. Yes, it would have been nice if the bedwenching could have been completed on a new sleepmaster mattress etc but, hey, we are recalling the days... More

A friend and myself went to the Empire Hotel for a quick lunch and catch up. Upon arriving I ordered fish and chips off the $12 Lunch Menu. When my meal arrived, I found it burnt and utterly disgusting. My friends meal wasn't much better. I am extremely disappointed as I have heard great things about this place. As I... More

We stopped here with my husband in May, but it was still packed with visitors. Service was really great, all stuff was very welcoming and helpful. This beautiful hotel has a long history, as a town was quite rich in it's time Empire hotel was one of the most visited hotels in town and still is. From the first second... More
