Whether just popping in for a meal or staying over Wolfscastle is excellent. Lovely individual rooms well equiped TV, coffee/tea making kit, lovely food and great location. easy walk to the river and open countryside as well as Wolfs Rock itself.
WE arrived late off the ferry - but this place is 15 minutes drive from Fishguard, so that's perfect. The beds are so comfortable, a good sleep is almost guaranteed. Breakfast are generous and the coffee is suberb, strong, full of flavour and a kick. Staff cannot be faulted.
We stayed here for 3 nights Fri - Mon to attend a function on the Saturday night. I can't fault our stay, it's a lovely hotel with very friendly staff. Breakfasts were superb and rooms so comfortable with everything you need. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if I get the chance.
I understand this is the first time the Wolfscastle has tried an event like this and it felt like a great success. As a party of 4 we had an exceptionally warm welcome into the terrace garden where we spent the afternoon. The food has been advertised as a buffet however was actually served plated with a 'bit of everything'. It was all delicious and was followed by two deserts. The portion was a tad small for the amount of alcohol that people were consuming however and was perhaps not enough to mop up how much some had! This is probably a reflection on those drinking loads rather than the hotel but how much/what you serve may need to be reconsidered when you are advertising as 'bottomless' (there was a table that was stockpiling shall we say and kay have benefited from a few more stodgy carbs!). There was an excellent selection of drinks, great quality prosecco and craft beers which was a lovely surprise. There was also a wonderful young woman and guitarist. I think she was a waitress there and had filled in last minute. She was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed and charming throughout and every staff member was attentive, friendly and chatty. Would definitely attend again and felt on the whole it was good value…
I visited the restaurant today, for the first time, for Sunday lunch with my husband and grandson. I have to say. It was a little disappointing. We were greeted by a gentleman with, what I believe was an Italian or Spanish accent, who showed us to our table. The service was very efficient and the food arrived extremely promptly. When a tray containing 3 small servings of vegetables was served we assumed that they were for two people to share as opposed to a party of three. When the waitress confirmed that the vegetables were indeed for all three of us to share my husband and I passed a comment on the small portions but there was no response. The three of us had chosen the beef and it really was delicious. Absolutely no complaints there at all. When we had dished up our vegetables we could see immediately that we had been right in our assumptions in that there just wasn’t enough for three people to shared over asked for some more. In fairness to the waitress she immediately obliged and promptly brought us another tray. The meal was glorious .. it was extremely tasty and had been beautifully cooked. We then ordered our desserts. In the meantime the Italian sounding gentleman who had initially shown us to our table started clearing the plates away. I must say that I found him a little rude as he leaned straight across to take the crockery away without saying a word. Our desserts were served and again, the food was really lovely. When we paid our bill, a young man asked us if we had enjoyed our food and our reply was “yes” but we had been shocked by the very small portions of vegetables that had accompanied our main course. His response was that there was no limit to how many vegetables we had, to which I replied “but we shouldn’t have to ask”. Anyway, my description of our experience in the restaurant today, in short, is this. The positives are that the food really was first class, the wine delicious, the waitresses were lovely and gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble and the lady on reception exuded warmth and gave a fabulous ‘first impression’ upon our arrival. The negatives, on the other hand were that a small tray of vegetables were most definitely not sufficient to feed three people. Adequate for two people but certainly not enough for three. If what the gentleman said when we paid was correct, that there was no limit on the amounting vegetables you could have, then why on earth weren’t you told that by the waitress/waiter when they served you the food? Especially in y case, where I had passed comment on how meagre the servings of vegetables had been for three people! The gentleman who showed us to our table, with the Italian sounding accent, who I think was the ‘head waiter’, lacked any real warmth and was a little rude. Finally, as an interior designer myself, aesthetics are extremely important to me. I found the decor to be very ‘flat’ and very dull. The aesthetic certainly didn’t ignite any feelings of being in a ‘cosy country hotel, which is a shame as the building itself is beautiful but the interior is very bland and completely lacks lustre. It has no real ‘identity’ and very little has been done to create an inviting atmosphere.…
Beautiful location and 5* service. Gorgeous spa area with amazing views from the hot tub. I love the fact that the spa experience is kept very private and intimate - you generally don’t share your slot with others. I also enjoyed a wonderful back and shoulder massage from very skilled and experienced staff - this isn’t always a given at a hotel spa. I’ve had many mediocre massages at spa hotels over the years!!! The quality of the food and menu choices in the restaurant were amazing. We would definitely return!
The waiting staff look grumpy and seem untrained, the food is overpriced and i was really disappointed with the standard of my Sunday lunch. This place has really gone downhill, i’m guessing under new management or something; as my family and I have been coming here for a while and have really noticed the shift in quality.
Just returned from a visit to Wolfcastle. A really lovely, comfortable, cosy and stylish little hotel. If it wasn't for the dining experience it would have been perfect. I've read a good few reviews and they seemed to be happy from the dining experience so I'm not sure what happened with us. Firstly the waiting staff were a little unhelpful and didnt seem to know what they were doing e.g our main meals literally dumped on the table without a word as the waitress walked off. The main itself was a bit disappointing but could be due to the dish itself not being my cup of tea. It was banana blossom which was banana root deep fried. We had a dessert, mine was a vegan brownie with chocolate sorbet. The sorbet was 1st class, really good flavour but the brownie had been microwaved within an inch of it's life, I couldnt actually get a spoon through it. Other than spit it out on my plate once I'd braved a mouthful I found that it tasted burnt. So... i did tell the waitress and straight away she refunded my dessert but then there was a pina colada on our bill that wasnt ours, we had been charged and evening price and a vegan price for the same dish on our bill which we had to draw attention to and then the waitress conceded to charging us the same but telling us it should have been the "evening" price; not our problem really. so confusion, embarrassment, and couldnt wait to get out of there. Rather awkward and unfriendly atmosphere too. At breakfast, again boiled eggs where the whites were runny as well as the yolk, not wanting to eat something that resembles snot and complain again, we just ate toast and croissants. Had to wait and ask for juice to be refilled to have a glass of orange juice, not containers for jams or marmalade, you literally had to dump it on your plate.... summed up, a restaurant that promises to be sophisticated but doesnt deliver. nothing though that a bit of staff training wouldnt cover. unfortunately, I probably wouldnt' return.…
Thank you to all staff for a lovely wedding day. We may have planned everything last minute and demanded a lot but it was certainly all worth it at the end. It really felt like every staff member cared. Our wedding planner Liz was always answering our many questions right up until the day before! Reception staff are so welcoming and helpful any time you call. The manager Tom did everything he could on the day, no ask was too much, even the placement of our flowers and decor seemed to have so much thought in it. The bartender even seemed to become one of the guests he was so chatty and easy going! The girls in the spa are absolutely lovely. They dedicate all their time to you and the experice is so personal, even brining in some of their own personal things to give you a better look!! Beyond worth the money. The housekeeping staff clearly keep up to the building wonderfully and left us a beautiful personal message and gift. Every team member is to thank! Thank you Wolfscastle and we'll see you for our anniversary next year!!!…
Partner staying here on the hottest day of the year. No air conditioning which I guess you can expect in older buildings but to not even have a fan in the room is pretty poor customer service and makes for a very uncomfortable stay.
