A great B&B begins and ends with great hosts -- Pauline and Hemi are just that!! We thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the Maori culture from Hemi, who brings it to life and gives it depth from a personal perspective. Pauline is warm and welcoming. Our room and bath were very spacious, comfortable, spa-like and restful. Breakfast was delicious. This...

Hemi and Pauline make you feel right at home in this accommodation. Hemi is a font of good knowledge from places to visit in the area (we followed all his recommendations) to antique cars, of which he has several, to where he is going to build his next house. Our room and Pauline's breakfast were very nice. Hokitika, nearby, has...

Nice little B&B tucked away a few miles from Hokitika. Great hosts, a pleasure spending time with them. Our daughter loved their dog May, she still has a smile in her face when she talks about our stay there. We had Goldborough room, nice size, nice bath. Breakfast was good. Nice walks around the area.

What a find!! This was really one out of the box. A beautiful hideaway, close to Hokitika but in its very own beautiful surroundings An amazing couple Hemi and Pauline who welcomed us as though we were old friends. A beautiful breakfast with Whitebait fritters included means that we will be back. Hemi is an amazing person who one could...

My husband and I stayed at this lovely B&B during our 3 week tour of South Island. This is a beautiful home just a short walk from the beach. When we arrived Hemi was busy working on mowing the lawn of their wonderfully maintained gardens. He and his sweet dogs made us feel very welcome. After settling in, we went...

The homestead and garden are glorious, and our upstairs apartment was perfect. But what really made our stay was meeting Hemi and Pauline, feeling part of the family, and Hemi's willingness to share his knowledge of Hokitika and its Maori history. An interesting, and most warm and welcoming place to stay.

Our family of 5 stayed only one night at Awatuna Homestead. It is a beautiful place with exquisite gardens. The self contained apartment we stayed in was lovely and comfortable. We had a yummy breakfast in the morning with a great conversation with Hemi who also showed us his vintage Morris 8's. The kids really enjoyed the dogs too. Thank...

We had a great stay at the Awatuna Homestead last week. Hemi and his family were very welcoming and gave us great tips on touring the west coast of the South Island. We enjoyed our stay there very much.

We enjoyed our overnight at Awatuna Homestead very much. We received a friendly welcome, and when we asked about Hemi's cars he was quite happy to let us see them. We enjoyed seeing the weather house (green house) as well, and felt comfortable and at home in the garden. We were given directions to Hokitika Gorge and went on some...

We found this accommodation after a shocking night of disrupted sleep at Stumpers, what a dump. The beach views were amazing and as it was beginning to storm, the seas were really high and quite noisy, which I really liked. A great location, very clean and comfortable. Cheryl and Malcolm are a lovely couple they give you enough space and...

“There are a range of rooms available - it is worth talking to Hemi when you book to get what you want. I have stayed in the studio which has 2 small rooms, one with a double bed and one with twin beds. It is upstairs and more independent from the main homestead areas so you can eat and cook for yourself if you want. The second visit we stayed in the Stafford Room which is on the corner of the house on the ground floor and has a wonderful garden outlook. All rooms are quiet and have their own bathroom facilities and space to move around. You can then sit in the host's living room or kitchen at meal times and after meals to relax or talk.”
