Wow what can I say except this place exceeded our expectations. We asked and got a second floor Superior Seaview Room. Thank you Marvin and the reservations team. This location was perfect for us as it was central, quiet, clean, modern, and had a balcony to watch the sea each morning while we drank our coffee (bring your bodum!) It had a new flat screen TV but as we do not subscribe to streaming services we could not access anything to watch except Youtube! Our housekeepers Stacey-Ann and Sadie were really good and Nadine the supervisor was a great help when we locked ourselves out of our room. Thank you! We loved the indoor/outdoor double shower. Strong water pressure and never ran out of hot water! We booked direct so got the transportation (they did drop off at another resort first but really no big deal). Upon arrival Shawnise made us feel welcome and handed us a awesome rum punch which was strong and delicious. Our room was decorated special for our anniversary which was a nice touch. We also were informed that a special table would be set up for us and special service for a anniversary dinner (a day of our choice) at the buffet which they did supply and was lovely. Our waitress Dallery went above and beyond to attend to us and for that we were truly happy and felt special.
We loved the food (my husband is super picky and he even liked it). What he especially liked was the homemade soups, salad bar, and different variety of carved meats. There was also a grill at the buffet where one lunch we had steak. The desserts were phenomenal especially if you like coconut which I do. I cannot fault any of the food one bit. We also loved the Hawksbill Burger at Seagrapes and the BBQ lunches at PD grill. David the bartender at Seagrapes always accommodated what we wanted (delicious strawberry daiquiris) but if you want top end liquor it will cost extra. In all honesty the rum was sufficient. Would of liked Caribe Beer though instead of the beer from Spain! Being greeted by Julien nightly at the buffet and how friendly and accommodating she was (really went above and beyond to help people) brought us joy. Trina and Maya could not be more helpful if you needed extra sugar etc and these service people again worked tirelessly. The omelet guy Egbert was always accommodating and to be offered Eggs Benedict at a AI for breakfast was a first for me. I took advantage of that one!
We found Eden Beach the best location for us as it was quiet, private and serene. We did try seagrapes beach and the pool but lasted less than a hour as it was not private enough for us. Laying on a lounger under a palapa hearing only the waves was my idea of heaven. No noise, no loud music, no vendors, no one close by talking, only the occasional boat or seadoo going by. Suki and Gus always had rum punch or beers cold if needed at the shack. Gwenyth the security guard was friendly and approachable which we liked. Do take bug spray as sand fleas can be nasty and apply lots! The snorkeling was ok at Seagrapes as long as the sea was calm. Did see a spotted Eagle Ray early one morning which made it all worthwhile.
Our only negative was for some reason on our first day we were approached aggressively by a guy selling tours on Seagrapes Beach. Even though we told him we were not interested in doing any tours he became angry and started yelling at us. Left a bad taste in our mouths and avoided him for the rest of our 10 day stay along with the beach towel guy who gave us attitude and was very condescending which was puzzling to us.
We have not stayed at top end 5 star hotels (like a sandals or secrets is suppose to be like) so we can only compare to where we have stayed to date and to date this was our best experience at a AI as it gave us everything we wanted and ticked our boxes many times over.
We cannot wait to return!

The best things about this resort are provided by Nature: location, beaches, and the weather. Yes, weather - mostly sunny but even when it rained (it did, 30-50% of the time in late January), it's in short 'waves' with sufficient sunny breaks in-between; and the temperature never dropped below 25C.
The buildings are somewhat aged and 'light', but reasonably well maintained and safe even in stormy winds. The 2 main private beaches were never crowded and well maintained. Nice lush gardens are also well kept.
The room - a Superior Seaview King room in the main building - was spacious and comfortable. Facilities were on par with most 3-4 star hotels worldwide, although some minor detail felt below expectations set by the price here. Comfortable bed, well airconditioned, large seaview balcony (they call it 'patio';), large TV and reliable WiFi (also covering the entire campus). The bathroom is also up to 3-4 star standards, except the showers being outdoor, in a protected niche. That wasn't much of a problem, but disappointingly that area did not drain well and even a brief shower made you stand ankle-deep in slowly draining water.
All-inclusive is a quantitative, not a qualitative term: there is plenty of food and drinks, but choice is limited and quality would meet 3-star expectations at best. Despite not having Michelin-level chefs, you will always find something delicious and won't starve ;) For non-vegans I'd recommend the corner stall where different meats are grilled or roasted every day and dispensed in front of you (as opposed to the rest of the food being pre-cooked and placed in the usual self-serve covered trays).
For those enjoying a drink (or few) there is a decent choice of cocktails, plus some wines and beers. Local Merlot wine is not too bad, and local beers are quite good and recommended ;)
Staff everywhere is very friendly and helpful, which makes up for occasional lack of professionalism due to incomplete training. Treating customers with respect and a smile, though, always leaves a nice impression.
The 'infinity' pool is a joke. It is infinitely small, not a swimming but a 'soaking pool'; filled with sea water is a questionable decision given the island's sufficient fresh water supply and modern pool recirculation technologies. Nonethe less, many guests preferred to stay there despite the fantastic swimming experience in the sea. Maybe I have the wrong taste ;) --- N.B. Do wake up early to 'reserve' your sunbeds, like everywhere else;)

Finally made it back to Hawksbill where we visited in 2017 (got engaged there too!). We were booked to return in 2020 but the pandemic hit and we cancelled. I waited for the upgrades to occur in 2023 and we made our return the end of Sept-start of October. The selling points of this hotel remain - three wonderful beaches, each with its own character - Royal Palm with its snorkelling, Sea Grape with it excellent swimming, and Honeymoon Cove with it seclusion. The location is also excellent - a decent drive from St John's and the airport (20 minutes), and being at the end of the road, there is no traffic passing the site. Likewise, the fringing forested hills which surround the property mean you don't have high-rises or population centers looking down on you (looking at you MoBay and Cayo Coco). The working staff is friendly to a person no matter whether they are a manager or a server or a cleaner. There is no harassment by vendors on the beach. The food had even improved from 7 years ago, and it was good then, through the addition of a lunch service at the main restaurant to augment the beach restaurant with its more limited menu. My wife is a professional chef who is not easily impressed, and she was impressed. Lastly, the ambiance - you come here because you want a quieter experience of the land and sea. You can rent a jet-ski or go out on a catamaran which arrives from further along the coast, but this hotel is for those who want to unwind and experience the tropics as they were 50 years ago (there is no TV in the room, although it is wired for Wifi). For our last visit we were in a cottage facing Royal palm beach, but this time were were in the renovated building facing Sea Grape beach. This location proved even better with its proximity to both restaurants and its view of the beach where we swam most often. We will return to Hawksbill again.

Average stay at the Hawksbill. The positives; the beaches and infinity pool are really beautiful. We managed to get a sun lounger each day but it is worth noting that there isn’t many. Our room (Royal Palm suite) was always clean and air conditioned. Despite being rife for mosquitos at this time of year, our room was always clear of bugs. Brad, who runs drinks to the pool and beach was great and kept us very hydrated! The courtesy room to shower before leaving for our late flight was also a great addition.
The negatives - the food. There was only one restaurant open for dinner due to low hotel capacity, the buffet food was simply awful. You couldn’t really make a meal of anything. The buffet area is not air conditioned or cool, we didn’t touch the salads or fruit because it was warm and sweating and many of the desserts were also melting. It all felt a bit dirty. For those who have left good reviews about the food, I am quite concerned about what they’re eating! Additionally all drinks we had were almost always warm and flat, we started asking for cans as these were slightly better (albeit warm). The only decent food was on BBQ night.
Mini bar - if you book the royal palm suite directly with the hotel then they will keep your mini bar topped up (which is worthwhile if you’re planning to spend the day outside your room on the beach). We upgraded our room with the hotel upon arrival for $500 but told we were not eligible for a mini bar because our original booking was not through them. This felt a bit tight and money-grabbing.
Staff - aside from a few exceptions (and it did improve towards then end of our stay), most staff appeared grumpy and abrasive. Particularly those that man the beach/towel hut. They were unhelpful (e.g on one day there were no clean towels available and they didn’t offer any other suggestion). They also seem to be understaffed, our check-in took over 1.5 hrs and in the end we chose to carry our bags down to our room (impossible if you have mobility issues). There are also guys on the beach selling (legitimate) trips but they situate themselves bang in the middle on sun loungers, meaning you can’t avoid the sales pitch or sitting near them.
PS. If you’re planning on staying in a Royal Palm room then be aware that these are semi-detached. Our neighbours woke us up several nights in a row in the early hours talking and shutting doors etc. The walls are very thin!
Overall, we are unlikely to stay here again. It was average because it was low season and the hotel was nowhere near at capacity. I’m really not sure how this place would cope during high season and for that reason I wouldn’t recommend.

Dear Caroline Clayton, Thank you for choosing our resort for your stay and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to read your compliments of our beaches, infinity pool, clean, air condition and bug free room, the drink service received from Brad around the pool and on the beach as well as the courtesy shower room prior to departure. Regrettably, some shortfalls in your dining experience and staff service impacted the full holiday experience we hope for you, and for this we extend our sincerest apology. We value your feedback and have taken detailed notes of the comments and concerns shared and have shared them with our management team for further review and necessary improvements. We completely understand that an apology does not in any way change the past, but it is our sincerest hope you will grant us the opportunity of redemption with a return visit that will certainly surpass your last and change any negative perception that you may have of our resort. Kind regards Hawksbill Team

My partner and I went with no expectations. We just needed sun, beach, pool, clean accommodations in a safe environment with decent food. Hawksbill did not disappoint!
The resort boasts 4 beaches and the best swimming beach is Sea Grapes. Here you will also find the water sports hut for your water adventures.
The infinity pool is divine and a lovely addition to this magical place.
The meals were quite decent - nicely well laid out buffets with evening entertainment. A few options for lunch to change things up from day to day.
The staff were all very lovely, attentive and super helpful.
There are a variety of rooms to choose from at different price points. We stayed in a freshly renovated Royal Palm Beach King Bed Bungalow. It was spacious and super clean and was attended to daily by the housekeeping staff. French doors opened up directly onto a small patio and Cabana overlooking Royal Palm Beach with the sun pouring in and at night, waves lulling you to sleep.
We booked directly with Hawksbill to take advantage of the VIP pricing and upon doing that a mini bar was included in our room along with a courtesy shuttle to and from the airport.
Clearly lit paths (at night) to guide you to the restaurants. Clean walkways and stairs along with well maintained landscaping throughout the resort. The security gate is close to these bungalows so we felt safe at all times. Excellent water pressure and remote controlled air conditioning.
A well stocked gift shop with cold drinks, snacks, souvenirs, cigarettes, alcohol, clothing and toiletries.
Checking in and out was a breeze - and reception is lovely overlooking Sea Grapes Beach.
If you are looking for a more affordable laid back place to enjoy a peaceful and serene vacation - then by all means, please consider this destination! It's not a party place and it feels quite remote.
For a 3 to 3.5 star resort - we happily give Hawksbill a 4 star rating.
Why not 5 stars? Small things really - all of which I addressed by direct email after our return home. A bit of a daily shortage of beach towels, no portable drying rack in our room to hang wet items and some suggestions about improving / tweaking their nightly entertainment. And while the food was quite good - some things were repetitive.
Please also note ....If you have issues with mobility - you will be challenged by steep slopes and stairs along with a few stairs in the Tamarind Restaurant.
Would we return? Absolutely!

Hawksbill Resort is amazing value for money. The location is exceptional with 4 different beautiful beaches and a completely private position behind a set of hills. The beaches are not too deep, the water is not too rough (unlike Galley Bay nearby) and the resort is spread out over a relatively large area so the sun loungers are spaced out nicely for privacy. The rooms are big with comfortable beds, not particularly fancy but they give you everything you need except a TV (which we wouldn’t have used anyway). We thought the food was tasty, healthy, with lots of choice and head chef Brian Joseph really looked after us by making extra vegan dishes as necessary (he was definitely a highlight of our stay). The hotel really put effort in for evening entertainment with a steel band, fire dancer, singers and great DJ (DJ Fenton). Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve were extra special with lots of decorations, hats and dancing. The free tennis and watersports (canoes and SUPs) was easy to use and well maintained. All of the staff were lovely and seemed to really care (shout out to barman David and room service Derricia). It was the second cheapest resort we could find in Antigua but offers amazing value for money, compared to some of the more expensive options which probably don’t offer much more for the price.

Absolutely agree with the last reviewer. This is a terrible place and half way through my 2 week holiday I wanted to return home. During my stay I met an Italian couple who were staying for 3 weeks and they were in absolute despair at the dire food and drink situation. I have worked in many prisons in the UK and can confirm that the food served up at Hawksbill is on a par with that which is served in UK penal establishments. Sometimes a 'picture (photo) paints a thousand words' so I've put 2 up which sums up this place nicely. These were taken on my last day and were taken in the main restaurant situated above the door accessing the kitchen next the to omelette station and dessert area. If you still decide to travel to this establishment then do take coverings for both your food and drinks unless you like flies floating around your glass of luke warm beer/wine. Do avoid the gibbering idiot who runs the water sports and acts as DJ on some evenings. He talks to female guest inappropriately and offensively. This is the worst holiday I've ever had and actually couldn't wait to board my flight home and I was actually looking forward to the in-flight meal!!!!

Dear Brian T, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Hawksbill Resort Antigua. We sincerely appreciate your feedback, as it allows us to address your concerns and work towards improving our product and services. Your comments about our food and drinks offerings has been duly noted and much consideration will be given so as to significantly improve, if I might add, it appears as if your stay with us was in November of 2024, however, since your last visit we have made some strides in the setup of our buffet in terms of the overall presentation and also our menus have been tailored. Unfortunately, our warm Caribbean climate can make us susceptible to intrusion from certain insects. However, we can assure you that we have a pest control contractor who takes care of all areas of pest control, including scheduled and frequency of treatment, to minimize and control insects as much as possible. Once again, we apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience you encountered during your stay. We take your feedback seriously and will use it to improve our offerings and provide a more satisfying experience for future guests. We hope you will reconsider visiting us in the future, allowing us the opportunity to provide you with the exceptional experience you expected and deserve allowing us to demonstrate the improvements we have made based on valuable feedback like yours. Best regards,

A return visit after ten years for a totally enjoyable stay. Since our last visit the rooms have been modernised and we found ours well-appointed and comfortable with a good bathroom, one slight criticism is that the lighting could have been better. The beaches and grounds at Hawksbill are very well kept creating a peaceful and natural environment that is a delight to be in.
I find negative comments about the food and drink puzzling, there is a wide variety of hot and cold dishes available at breakfast and dinner; lunches, which we normally took at the beach bar, were more than adequate (there is afternoon tea too if you want it). The quality across the board is very good; we spoke to the chef one evening and he is clearly passionate about the meals he produces and has a talented team behind him which he was keen to praise. Drinks too, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were fine and available as desired, I did not hear anyone complain about the quality or quantity.
I am not going to identify individual staff because everyone we spoke to and encountered including gardeners, cleaners, administration, serving and bar staff and the sailing instructor/watersport organiser, was delightful; they were genuinely welcoming, friendly, helpful and eager to make our stay at Hawksbill enjoyable. I cannot fault any of them and would like to thank them all for their hard work, amiability and positive attitude, they turned a good holiday into a great one.
Antigua is a beautiful island with great hospitality, it will not be another ten years before we return to Hawksbill.

Start with the good points. Hawksbill Bay itself is wonderful. The main beach and sea is lovely. The restaurant is high up on a hill with panoramic views and the hotel has lush green hills behind. Sunsets are picturesque. Mattress...best ever at a hotel, lovely soft towels. Bar service is solid. Pool is ok.
Not so good. The other 3 beaches are average with rocks that prevent swimming. Hotel is tired but getting a few updates. Sunbeds were scarce. Food is very narrow choice. Drinks at the bar are decent..so long as they have the bottles available.
Disappointing. Gym is one failing treadmill and an old exercise bike. Service in the restaurant could be slower even than 'antigua-time'....all we wanted was a glass of water and cutlery. The daily smell of sewage wafting across the restaurant wasn't nice. The two additional restaurants, on the beach and PDs, are a step down (except that PDs is a wonderful spot by the sea). They could both be so much better with just a bit of effort. There is no '4th' restaurant listed on the website. Toilets near the restaurant are unpleasant.
Hawksbill aim to be honest in their website description and I applaud that. But instead of a super-relaxed hotel its slipping over to an under-managed hotel. And that ends up being a bit frustrating. We've been to more than 15 hotels / islands and they all have charming quirks, but Hawksbill Resort is not so much quirky as just not well run.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your detailed review and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to hear about the aspects of your stay that you enjoyed, such as the hotel being wonderful, the main beach (sea grapes) being lovely, the panoramic view from tamarind tree restaurant and the lush green hills behind the hotel as well as the picturesque sunsets, the best ever mattress you ever had at a hotel, the lovely soft towels and the solid bar service. We are truly sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations and for this we humbly apologize. It is important to note that even though rocks can be found in the other three beaches, there are areas where one can swim comfortably, and these beaches are very popular with our guests. We are disappointed you were able to access the gym that has been closed. We have carefully noted and shared your comments on the restaurants and the toilets near the restaurants with the department heads for evaluation and improvements. There are always ways for us to continue to improve and we will certainly take your feedback into consideration as we continue to grow. Kind regards Hawksbill Team

The beach is beautiful and the people who work at or for the resort are wonderful. They are so friendly and really want to do everything possible to make sure you enjoy your stay. I want to highlight Shemary who cleaned my room everyday and provided whatever I asked for with a warm smile and eagerness to please. The resort has a list of taxi services that they call and I highly recommend Ricky of Ricky's Taxis. He took us to the airport as well as to shopping and restaurants. He was always waiting for us and we never had to wait for him. This was important when returning late in the evening and getting to the airport. It made us feel very secure knowing that we had such reliable transportation. Now to the areas that need improvement based on opinion of someone who has been to many different resorts. The beach does not have enough chairs and umbrellas for guests. We could not go on beach for 3 of the 5 days because guests place a towel on chaise early in morning and claim the chair for the rest of the day. There were 6 umbrellas on the beach behind oceanview rooms with no chaises. There is room on beaches to have a second row of umbrellas to help alleviate this situation but nothing done. The ocean view rooms have no furniture with drawers to put clothes in and only have 2 small shelves in closet. This is an all inclusive resort with only one restaurant to have a buffet dinner each evening. The dining room setting was lovely but the buffet food was very average and we ended up eating dinner at restaurants even though had all inclusive. Would be nice if they gave people the option to have semi-inclusive for breakfast/lunch and give them option for dinner.

Dear Trek298717, Thank you for your detailed and honest review. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the beautiful beach and, most importantly, the wonderful service provided by our team. We're especially pleased you highlighted Shemary and will be sure to pass along your kind words. We're thrilled she contributed to making your stay so enjoyable. We also appreciate you bringing the areas for improvement to our attention. We understand the frustration regarding the limited beach chairs and umbrellas. We are actively exploring solutions to address this issue as we aim to ensure all our guests have fair and comfortable access to the beach. We acknowledge your feedback regarding the storage in the ocean view rooms. We will review the current furniture and consider adding more drawers and shelves to enhance guest comfort. We also understand your comments about the dining experience. We are actively working on improving the variety and quality of our buffet offerings. We will also consider your suggestion regarding a semi-inclusive option for breakfast and lunch, allowing guests more flexibility for dinner. We value your insights as an experienced traveler and will use them to enhance our guest experience. We are committed to providing a memorable and enjoyable stay for all our guests, and your feedback is invaluable in helping us achieve that goal. We hope you will consider returning in the future, allowing us to demonstrate the improvements we've made. Kind regards Hawksbill Team

We were there last week. During our ventures to Eden beach we saw, at most, 5 couples either on loungers or walking. All were in their 50’s or older. We did not see any gawkers or otherwise threatening or questionable attendees. This is a naturist beach, and I don’t believe other “freedoms” are the norm if I read between the lines of your question. However, the beach is HUGE and you can easily put a great deal of space between you and other guest

We had an oceanfront room on the south end of the property (133) . You entered the room from a secured balcony (not direct beach access) that overlooked the main beach. See my pictures posted in our review. It had an overhang that provided shade and rain protection (needed to pull the chairs back closer to the room wall). You then entered the room through two windowed French doors. There is a bathroom and shower in adjacent room off the “bedroom”. pretty typical amenities of a regular hotel room although laid out differently. Lacking was a chest of drawers.
We booked through Travelocity and were told that the minibar, although stocked, would cost us to restock. They provided to bottles of water and told us to save the bottles to refill at coolers in the restaurants. Brink yeti style water bottles for drinks/water.

We were there August 2024. There were a few teenagers but they were few and far between. They also didn’t really appear to be doing much mingling. Just hanging out with the families they were with
The apartment unit between the two restaurants has been refurbished - the view of the beach, the boat storage area, Hawksbill Rock, and the terrific sunsets is great. We stayed in the cottages before but we loved this new location and would choose it again. The bathroom area is the real selling point - the shower room, and it is s room, is off the bathroom - two shower heads, pegs for towels or clothes, wooden floor in 'dressing' area... you can shower and change without re-entering bathroom!

We saw a hut with a cooler and attendant. I have no idea what he had in his cooler. There is definitely no electricity for an ice maker, blender or refrigerator.
There are more places to choose from in the Five Islands Village area.
