It was my first trip to Poland, and I was looking for a nice place close to downtown, and took a shot at Neptun Hotel. Had no expectations what so ever, and was pleasantly surprised. Staff at the front desk was multi-lingual, competent at pretty much everything but directing calls to the right room. Don't understand that! Especially for a hotel that was obviously geared toward business travelers.

I was surprised that the bed wasn't a standard mattress, but then again, I had a single, and the pad-on-a-hard-frame turned out to be supremely comfortable. It also surprised me that there was no air conditioning in the room, but then again, even though it was the dead of summer, it was not needed, and a couple nights I did have to break out blankets.

'IN all, other than the phone calls going awry, it was a quiet, interesting place, with a killer breakfast and the nicest attendant I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in action.

Be prepared that the instructions for the room phone, and a couple other "information" things, are not available in English. Given their level of service and attention to detail, I feel that this oversight will be taken care of quickly

The company inviting me to Poland booked me for 5 nights in the Neptun. The past 2 years I had stayed at the Orbis (locally known as Hotel Gdynia) and that was one big step down in terms of luxury. So I was ready to be very picky.
And failed miserably.

The Neptun is a bit farther away from the seaside, but no more than a 10-mn walk to the harbour, under 15 mn to the Orbis and the beach. It is located right off the main business road, so anything from a doctor to a manicure can be reached in minutes. Also, plenty of bus stops around the corner.

Room decoration is not exactly engaging, a bit on the 70's side, shades of brown, but I didn't stay in the room long enough to mind. As far as comfort goes, there were cable TV, extra blankets, and a good-sized walk-in closet. There is no laundry service, but the hotel will show you a laundry place just a bit up the road.

I was much more concerned about the state of the mattress, which seemed very thin. My back has zero tolerance for bad mattresses. Well, in 5 nights, nothing to report, slept like a baby. No street sounds either.
Room and bathroom were absolutely spotless, cleanliness apparently rates very high here.
Was lucky to get a room with a balcony, #204. Colleagues report that some other rooms are smaller, but most do get a lot of light.

The staff was excellent, working the phones for my smallest requests, as I speak no Polish. I was attending a film festival and worked weird hours; there was never any problem about having the room serviced at 3 PM, which is not that frequent in hotels of any category.
I was leaving town early in the morning - 5 AM - and requested tea; at 5:05 got a phone call stating my tea was ready at the reception. Turned out it came with a bag of fresh homemade sandwiches and a banana. Cool.
Otherwise, regular hotel breakfast is okay, though plates don't get refilled much, so get there before 9. You'll be offered an extra hot dish : scrambled eggs or frankfurters or fruit pancake. Restaurant staff speaks no English, so mime skills can be a plus...

My only regret, though in no way a minus to the hotel, is that no rooms are equipped with bathtubs. I'm a bathtub addict . Good shower, though, and ultra clean.

So, if your budget doesn't allow for the fancier places, the Neptun is a good value for money option.

The hotel is quite modern, convenient and perfectly located in the centre of the old town of Gdansk. Unfortunately there were some annoying details that I encountered during a one week’s stay in the hotel. The wireless connection is very unreliable - when you manage to connect, it’s fast, but then it disconnects without any reason and you can’t reconnect for hours or more. Breakfast is good quality, but boring as it’s all the same every morning. The cleaning ladies are friendly, but the cleaning is so slow that when I came back to my room after a long meeting around 3:40 pm the room was still not cleaned. It also appears that there is no air conditioning which would work on hot days, at least nothing that you could control yourself. That same hot afternoon the room was really hot as the sun had been shining into the room. One more annoying thing is the lack of lobby as there is only a reception disc without one single chair in the very small arrival hall. This is especially annoying if you have a late departure to the airport and the only palace to wait is in the hotel restaurant and not peacefully in a convenient lobby. If the above comments don’t bother you, then I can recommend the hotel as the rooms are rather large and convenient, equipped with a comfortable bed, flat screen TV with satellite channels, hairdryer, safe, fridge, water boiler, cups and coffee and tea as well as water (both still and with gas).

I chose the hotel because it was very close to the offices I had to visit but I wouldn't repeat experience. Everything looks out of fashion and needs refurnishing: old uncomfortable bed, outdated furniture, deficient light (especially the lift, it was like a horror movie), restaurant quite poor and decoration from the worst 80s everywhere. If you still come here, use the dry cleaning, it is cheap and efficient.

This hotel was worth the money we paid. Cheaper and most friendly service than at the other hotels (in Gdynia) we visited trying to find a place to stay. We did not book but went just to try our luck and got a room. Hotel was like from 80`s but most important it was clean and good to sleep in it. Breakfast was very good. I had my own gluten free breads with me at the breakfast because they did not have.

Maybe it could get 3 stars when it was new, but this was like 50 years ago. Rooms are quite big, but all the furniture are old and devastated. Everything smels like a wet dog. No airconditionig+ very noisy street= no sleep. When you will open your suitcase at home, after a vist in Neptun hotel, you will know what smell I was talking about.
At the restaurant you can find old, smelly furniture, 70' decorations, dirty tables, week service, and suprisingly good, traditional polish food. The prices are very low, the food is fresh and their herring is a masterpice of polish quisine.

Nice intimate modern ('90 of 20th century) hotel on quite street, short walking from main street and square in Gdynia center. Approximately 12 minutes from the city beach :).
Room was spacious, very clean. With all typical facilities in 3* hotel. Towels was fresh, bedlinen fresh too. Clean and pleasant bathroom. Good mattress to sleep and rest.
Very nice and in smile staff at the front desk.
Hotel is perfect for business travellers the same like for tourist.
If Y looking for small intimate hotel in hear of Gdynia but in quiet - Neptun can be proper choice.

Good choice for the stay in the city, but also not far from the beach (ca 15 min walking). The hotel is (inside) modern and make a nice impression. The room was spacious and with all facilities I needed during my stay. Everything was clean and fresh. The staff sat the front desk were friendly, check-in/out fast and efficient. The breakfast was very good - fresh and lots of things. The service in the breakfast room also was O.K. I can recommend it for wekend's city braks or just for short business stay in Gdynia.
