This hostel is actually student dorm, so rooms and kitchen’s equipment are meant for students and are therefore not in the best condition. Our room was big enough for two, has the large closet, clean sheets, but not so clean bathroom. Towels are not included. The kitchen is on the ground floor with basic equipment. You can also use their...

We booked on price, and to be fair we should have spent a bit more. The rooms were very sparse with very thin mattresses the floor had more cushioning. The showers were ensuite but not clean, a bit like the whole hostel. The kitchen was small and basic, not really suited to the size of the place. The wifi was...

We arrived to find out you have to pay with cash so they took our Id instead as we had no cash. We were directed to our room and we tried to charge our phone and the electricity didn't work. We told the guy and they changed our room which was good. However the rooms are dirty, the floor in...

We stayed here with a group of 29 and it is basic but clean and tidy. Excellent value and all rooms are ensuite. There is free wifi and this was reliable. You need to take cash as they do not accept credit cards. On the down side, the kitchen is very poorly equipped

Mathias Hostel offers a room with basic facilities, like attached bathroom, tables and cupboards to store things, but has no tea making facilities, no TV, no water, etc. Travellers arriving should take a taxi as it is a bit difficult to get there with public transport. Free Wi- Fi is offered. Beds and furniture is old. One of the room...

We had a room reservation for mathias hostel during the time there was sziget festival going on last august 2014. When we finally arrive, in the middle of the night, the door was locked and there was a sign "sorry we are closed" in the main door. Umm, what? We ring the doorbell and get in and walk to the...

The hostel is not very clean and the rooms are very simple. The bathroom is very small and uncomfortable. The wifi was not available at all times and we had to come to the lobby to use the same as the signal is not good. The only good thing about this place is that the staff is very friendly

I took the airport minibus as it would be hard to find and is on a windy hill so not a good place to be walking with luggage. Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. They would look up train times and prices for me and explain bus numbers and how to get around town. They also sell snacks...

The hostel is very cheap, so you can not expect too much. In addition to the holiday season serves as a dormitory. The advantage is its location close to the center next to Gellert Hill, the Pest side you can quickly get the bus number 8 There is free wifi Internet access, but in our room was poor coverage and...

You know, I didn't have high expectations for a 20 E / night hostel in downtown Budapest, but this was just a nightmare. The sheets were more yellow than white, hair on the pillows, prison size rooms, you really can not fall asleep until the last one of your neighbors fells asleep > you can hear everything from the toilets...

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
