The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is very good, near a supermarket and also near the famous danube. I would probably rate it higher if it would have more bathrooms (at the moment the hostel had many people living there at the same time)

Unusually calm hostel, with a very helpful staff. There is both dorms and double room. The hostel is not very big however, but I considered this a plus. The location is central and close to the metro.

Ginkgo Hostel was absolutely perfect for visiting Budapest. It was central to everything in the city. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. It has spacious rooms and beds. The hostel feels like home and feels safe. There were lockers for each bed to store valuables. I really enjoyed my stay and if I ever make it back to Budapest,...

We hadn't planned which hostel to stay at until we reached Budapest and had heard good things about this one previously. The city was busy with people coming back from Sziget festival but luckily, there were rooms left at Ginkgo. The hostel is set within a block of other houses in a courtyard and is very authentic. When we arrived,...

I ended up at Gingko after finding out that another hostel where I'd initially planned to stay was full. This was early May 2013. The lady at the front desk (unfortunately I've forgotten her name) was just so amazingly sweet -- she took it upon herself to make sure that I was fine with the room and the bathroom and...

The hostel is through a creepy looking courtyard. Once inside it was pleasant and decorated like an eccentric old European home. The girl at the desk was helpful even when I was confused about the price. Apparently the website is old and needs to be updated. The prices on the site are wrong and I ended up paying more than...

This is a good hostel to stay in with friendly staff and nice location. Only one issue is that I found that they use unfavourable exchange rates. Its is strange when this hotel quotes all rooms / dorm beds in euro's and then when you go to pay they only accept hungarian money (of course because its the currency). Then...

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.

Staying at Ginkgo will open up hundreds of years of Hungarian history to you: it is housed in a historical art nouveau building that still bears bullet holes from the 1956 Revolution against Soviet occupation. The hostel is located in a flat that was privatized after the change of regimes. Historical marks surround you whether you are outside the building or in Gingko's unique courtyard.
