The room was excellent. I found it very comfortable. Mine had a view into the Loverek forest in the back. Beautiful when it snowed (as it did).
The reception desk was very helpful, and the people I spoke to there spoke excellent English. (Very useful, as the 2nd language in Sopron is German.)
The hotel is not in the center of town, but there is frequent (~every 15 minutes) bus service into the center from a stop about 100 m from the door. (195 fts ~ $1 as of November - tickets from bus driver Either the #1 or #2). It is located on a 'turnaround,' so very quiet.
I have mixed feelings about the restaurant, but that's partly my own fault. I believe that reservations at the hotel all come with half-board. All meals are 'buffet-style.' I arrived just before the restaurant closed, and not much was left - so obviously the least attractive entrees. I also had to leave before breakfast after the second night, so only had one breakfast there. The breakfast I did have was fine, although not up to the standards of the two other Danubius hotels I've stayed at. The buffet dinner I had on the second night was OK - but fairly tasteless.
It should be remembered that Sopron is almost on the border with Austria, and is only about 20-30 miles from Vienna, so there are a lot of Austrians coming to the Lover. This leads to early dinners (why not much was left my first night), do one does sort of need to get to dinner shortly after it opens (6 PM). (A quick survey of license plates in the parking lot had about 30% Austrian.) One should therefore expect the hotel to cater to the Austrian clientele.
For those of a hiking turn of mind, there are numerous hiking trails from the Lover, or close to it.
Its situation is really lovely.
Thanks to my late arrival and early departure, I didn't have the opportunity to investigate or use a number of its facilities. Obviously others were using them however.
I don't know how much this is going to help anyone else, but I would stay there again.
There were two meal plan choices. You could opt for the full detox which was meals consisting of salts and juices, or the 1000 calorie meal plan. I went for the latter option as it seemed a little less restrictive.
The whole programme was extremely well planned. On arrival you are given you a timetable listing when your treatments are. These are nicely spread out and work nicely around meal times and the exercise schedule.
You start each day with a Kneipp shower (basically being hosed down with water; sounds a little strange, but it wakes you up!) and there are 5 in total. Also included in the week-long plan is 3 full body massages, 2 foot massages, 1 facial treatment, (25-35 mins each). You also get 45 minutes in the salt cave. You also have full use of the pool area, which includes a very powerful and relaxing Jacuzzi and sauna.
Meals are served in the main restaurant, but are timetabled so none of the non-detox guests are eating at the same time- their meal times are scheduled for a little later so they were normally just arriving as I was finishing up. A great way to do this, both for the kitchen staff and the guests - I feel it would be a temptation for the detox guests to be faced with all the 'normal' food whilst on a diet!
The 1000 calorie menu itself had great variety - usually something different every day and always tasty. Whilst it sounds quite restrictive, many of the portions were a decent size. The breakfast juices were just fab. I have since tried to recreate at home (unsuccessfully!)
You have access to unlimited green tea in the relaxation area which is a lovely room at the back of the spa surrounded by woodland. I would often just sit there in my dressing gown, reading a book whilst drinking my tea. There's also a green tea dispenser in the bar area downstairs and unlimited supplies of herbal tea in your room.... so you won't go short on tea!
The hotel provides a range of exercise activities included in the program- I did as much as possible, and especially enjoyed the walking in the woods sessions, where one of the hotel staff takes you on a route round the woods. You can of course do your own thing and I enjoyed many a walk on my own. The hotel is set in such a wonderful woodland location, the air really is so fresh and the peace and quiet was just what I needed.
The spa staff were so lovely and friendly and the ones that worked on the desk spoke excellent English as well. Some of the therapists didn't, which wasn't a problem, you can get your point across by simple gestures, or ask the desk staff to translate. Not an issue at all. There weren't many native English speakers staying at the hotel - I met one other group the whole week from the USA. The hotel seemed to attract a lot of Austrian guests, being so close to the border, and German I believe is the 2nd language in Hungary- so any German you know, as well as Hungarian, of course would be useful for communication purposes.
I visited in January which is a pretty chilly month in Hungary, however the rooms were lovely and warm. Wifi connection was great which was important as most evenings were spent in the room watching Netflix, to avoid the temptation of the bar area!
Sopron itself is a cute, historic little place, well worth a taxi ride down one morning.
By UK standards the prices are very reasonable, and it was around £350 for the week when I went, really good value. Nearest airports are Vienna or Budapest. I spent a night in Vienna at the start of the trip - well worth doing, and there's a train you can catch from Vienna to Sopron which run quite regularly.
I'm planning on returning hopefully next year, This time I will try the full detox for on week, and hopefully stay a 2nd week and do the 1000 calorie again. Indicative of what a great place it is, the spa staff told me that some guests stay for a month or more - how wonderful that would be, I think you would leave a totally new, revitalised person!

Rooms are clean. Beds ok. Lack of airconditioning..
Should been renovated 10 years ago. Most staff very friendly. We booked half board bur went out for dinner. I would not recommend this place.
Inside design is still old-school (which is not a problem at all), rooms are OK although slightly outdated (especially the bathroom). Food is tasty and offering wide range of meals.
Wellness is relatively small.
Staff is kind, services are good.
OK, back to the Lövér hotel. Really, I think I would be more inclined to give an all in all more positive appraisal of this hotel if they wouldn’t announce themselves as being a 4star hotel! Really! In what parallel hotel universe would that be? The rooms are small (but clean). Bathroom is tiny (but also clean and functional). No AC in the rooms (in a country where temperatures routinely sore above 35°C for weeks). Not unlike the old city center of Sopron, the Lövér hotel is old and it shows it’s age more than a wee bit. A lot of the historical buildings in the city center are literally crumbling and in dire need of restoration (authorities: wake-up call!). Unfortunately, the hotel also could use a thorough makeover to bring it into the 21 century. And I don’t mean just a paintjob. I’m sorry to say but parts of the interior brought back memories to me of the hotels in Soviet era Eastern Europe.
Again, there’s nothing really horribly wrong with this hotel, it’s not like there’s tiles hanging loose from the ceiling, leaking faucets in the bathroom or clunking noises from the plumbing and I really wouldn’t hesitate staying here again, but the owners (Danubius Hotels Group) should get real: two stars, three tops (for the location and the staff). Honestly folks.
