My family, including my mother in law and I stayed 3 nights with Oscar at Alice in Wonderland "Jarabacoa Family Hostel".
Their atention was exceptional as well as their service, you feel part of the family and not a tourist.
You get a great value for the price you pay, food, lodging and extra services and atention etc.
I recommend Jarabacoa Family Hostel to anybody with a Budget and still get quality service from Oscar and Mary.

What a magical place this is.

Ozscar is like a modern day Robinson Crusoe and has "created" this place with his own hands and imagination. If you stay in the tree house which he actually built you will be treated to breakfast brought to you like something from Wallace & Gromit
.
As soon you as walk in through the door you are welcomed like an old friend from Ozscar along with his wife Mary, their 5 dogs,1 cat and a sloth who lives in the mango tree!

Its about 15-20 min drive from La Fortuna which was perfect for us as it was good to be away from the Town and just go there in the day and return and cool off in the plunge pool with some peace in the evening, there are a few places to eat, drink and supermarkets all within walking distance of Jarabacoa but a hire car is need for getting about in general.

Ozscar is very good at helping out on days out, car hire, and what where and when to visit, he is a very humble man with some great funny stories when you leave here you would have made friend for life.

P.S Take Ozscars dogs to the river down the road with him and go swimming in the fresh spring water from the mountains

Wow! What an amazing place. We had the best time at Jarabacoa. Oscar is the nicest, funniest, most genuine, helpful and friendly host you will ever find. It is the perfect place to stay if you want to be away from the busy La Fortuna but close enough to visit everything in the area if you have a car. Oscar has the friendliest most lovable dogs and a resident sloth that hangs around the property! We cycled to the local river with Oscar and the dogs. All rooms are lovely but we stayed in the Treehouse which was amazing. Once you see it you will want to stay in there. Breakfast is delivered up to the Treehouse by Oscar by means of a pulley system which is great fun. Breakfast was absolutely delicious band Oscar prepared a different type of breakfast each day and lots of it! I had the best night's sleep I have ever had in the suspended bed listening to the sounds of the forest. Birdwatching from the Treehouse terrace in the morning was fantastic.

Oscar is an amazing cook and offers home made traditional dinners at a great price.

There is a lovely small pool for chilling and lovely areas for relaxing.

Oscar helped us with planning our days and making car hire and trip arrangements for us.

The whole place is totally unique and special. I guarantee you will never stay anywhere quite like it, it has soul and has been built by Oscar with love.

We extended our stay as we didn't want to leave! Don't miss out on this special experience.

The owners of this hostel are the best! Comfy rooms, huge kitchen and dining area. If you want to get off the beaten path and away from tourist attractions, come and stay here. Ozkar and Mari will take you on adventures that are not on any map. From mountain trails to amazing rivers and waterfalls. Again, we will be returning. They have become family!
