DO NOT STAY HERE! The toilet broke regularly and the owner blamed it on guests instead of doing anything to fix it. There were cockroaches in our bedroom. There was one smoke detector in the whole building, on the first floor, which means if a fire started anywhere else, good luck! Live electrical wires stuck out of the walls in rooms with no smoke detectors, so if something caught on fire nobody would know. Worst of all, the owner chose to demean me as a guest when I brought up the broken toilet to her, insulting me and bullying me. I didn't even report the cockroaches or smoke detectors until the end of my stay because her negativity combined with her unsafe property was ruining my trip. If this is the only option available for you in DC, sleep in your car. It'd be cleaner and safer than this place was. I would give it zero stars if that was possible, I guess I can rationalize the one star by saying the location was good.…
If you are looking for a creepy haunted hotel experience, this is the place. It feels like your staying at a dead relatives home. The room was definitely not worth the price, it smells like old house, potpourri and cigarettes, the rooms are hot, And the worlds worst community bathroom. I actually dreaded staying there by myself. The only person that was available, didn’t speak a lick of English. I actually caught her in my room looking for something but then she acted like she was dusting when she saw me. Gladly, I didn’t leave my important items in the room. I couldn’t even experienced the backyard, it was dead bolt locked shut. I would not recommend this Bed and Breakfast to my worst enemy.
What a disappointment. Good location, but none of the amenities and attention that you expect from a bed and breakfast. Yes, there was a bed. But as to breakfast, the muffins set out on the dining room table were wrapped in cellophane. There was a coffee pot on the sideboard, but no instructions. And the owner is an absentee owner, so the guests are on their own. Even just putting a coffee pot in every room, so that guests could make their own coffee in the morning, would improve things. Never again.
The Inn was fine, though it lacked the personal touch one expects with Inns & B&Bs. Breakfast was very lame. Room was spacious but had very poor lighting (the manager was aware of my requirement for lots of natural light, and the room he offered was not the one given to me). Aircon was hopeless (noisy and ineffective). Bathroom was also spacious with a good shower. The room reminded me of a European place, that was old and tatty, but had character. It's in a good location.
I had some reservations due to the price for the location, but found it charming. It is an old building and a bit shabby, but we found everything very clean. Breakfast was basic and limited options for my mother-in-law who has diabetes, but otherwise fine. The front door is a bit tricky to open, takes two hands, so keep that in mind if you have an impairment. I really enjoyed staying here, no road noise despite being right on the street. Extremely convenient to Dupont Circle metro station. Don't count on street parking; I pre-booked a garage space about 1/4 mile away and that worked well.
I really enjoyed my stay! The Inn is quiet and very sweet with historic flare. Lovely entrance and sitting area, large dining room, kitchen with microwave and sink. I stayed in the Garden Loft. It was cozy with a love seat and mini fridge downstairs and then a nook bedroom and bath up the spiral staircase. I would recommend that you bring your own shampoo and conditioner!
My fiancé and I stayed here because we love B&B's and the personal attention you get when visiting. We were very disappointed in the service we received. If you love a continental breakfast, save your money and go to Howard Johnson's. The caliper of this B&B can be likened to a stay at any chain motel, with the exception of a concierge. In which case we never laid eyes on the proprietors here.
I agree with the last two negative reviews and had my own pictures of the same mess. Everything is from Costco and they ran out of coffee one morning. My text to Ransom was no help (this is the only means of communication with the person who I booked with on line). The only people on site are the two cleaning ladies who show up about 9:00am and take a break in the front room. The lessons learned for me where to not pay 100% in advance and not to believe glowing reviews. We would definitely have checked out the next morning or never completed our check in if we could have. But, since no one with any authority or who speaks English is there to speak with, it was not worth leaving and trying to get our money back.
Can't fault the location..very convenient to Metro andf to a number of bars, cafes and restaurants and the rooms are spacious but that's where the postives end. The place is overwhelmed with clutter and untidy mess. See rediculous piles of garbage right next to the dining area!! There were missing smoke alarms inside and outside our room!!..very worrying. And a bold family of RATS living confidently in the raised garden area just outside the hall/reception room window!! Not to mention a sleepless night with water dripping through the ceiling in our room!! (Compensation offered?..NO) My advice to the owner is clear out the clutter, rubbish and the rats, refurbish everything and make it in to the elegant house it could be.
This is an attractive hotel. Very chic and modern styling. The staff were extra friendly and hospitable. The in hotel restaurant seemed vibrant and up beat given the number of patrons present. The room was cozy and reflected the modern theme throughout the rest of the establishment. The bed was super comfortable with loads of pillows. The bathroom setup was interesting with a raised, self-contained sink backed by a mirror with an outer perimeter flanked by fluorescent white lighting. My accommodation was only for a single night. However my stay was long enough to allow me to conclude that I would definitely book a stay here again. 🙂
