The Host: Matilda was a very accommodating host who definitely went out of her way to ensure our stay there went smoothly. I was there on a business trip and stayed here with my wife because the location was very close to where my conference was being held. She is more than willing to visit if she has the time and we had a great conversation sharing our travels and pictures with her one evening. The Location: This location is very close to Logan Center, about 5 minutes from Thomas Circle; 25 minutes from the White House; 35 minutes from the National Mall. Taxis are harder to catch in this area and you might have to walk south on Vermont Ave a few minutes to catch one (or use UBER). The nearest metro is about 8 minutes away (McPherson) or 6-7 (Shaw Howard). Location is in a nice residential area that's pretty quiet and does not get as much foot traffic as a few blocks south. The Accommodations: The room has had a lot of thought put into the decorations and Victorian style layout. You can tell it's an ongoing passion of the owners. If this style is not your thing and you're looking for modern and newer looking style then I would not stay here. The room temperature was great, outside sound was minimal, hot water works, but is slow running in the bathtub. My only critique of the room would be that the bed is two beds put together on one frame, it made it slightly uncomfortable if you woke up and found yourself laying across it. I would say not a great place for small children as there are a lot of things to tip over and bump into. However, everything else about this place was top notch. Coffee/tea, pastries, granola, and fresh fruit for breakfast. Matilda was nice enough to purchase decaf for my wife and would leave the coffee in individual thermoses when I left early for my meetings. She even woke up early and made me a delicious cinnamon roll pastry and coffee when I left at 0600 for an early flight. Conclusion: All in all I think this is a great place if you're looking for the location or a slightly out of the way, yet still central enough place for touring downtown DC. Best for couples, but business trip people may want to consider this place for the locality. Thanks Matilda for the lovely stay we enjoyed it thoroughly.

My wife and youngest daughter stayed in this amazing house! Matilda was very nice and welcoming! She made a terrific breakfast each morning, nice warm and served perfectly! She has a beautiful dog who loved my daughter! The location was beautiful! It was super close to everything DC has to offer! The room was beyond great!!! It was very old style and romantic with a nice large living room/bedroom and amazing bathroom with sweet walk in shower and beautiful tub! This place was beyond great for our romantic get away and site seeing in Washington DC and highly recommend it any day!! We will be coming back again!

We stayed 3 nights at the Vermont Avenue B&B and had a very pleasant stay (the photos however do not do the room justice!). One thing to get out of the way: unless you are staying at triple-glazed hotels, all US cities are noisy (some very noisy like NYC) so don't expect complete peace and quiet in the centre of town. However if you walk around the city as much as we did you'll sleep soundly. The B&B is old style, which suited us perfectly well and reinforced the comfy aspect of the place. We had the larger of the two rooms. No need to say it was very large and extremely nice with the biggest bathroom we had been in to date. Our host Matilda was extremely helpful and accommodating. You also need to make the most of the excellent breakfast! Location is very good with a number of shopping/eating places around on 14th street (I would recommend going to the local Whole Food Market and take away). Transport or walk is fairly easy (we found the Conference centre metro station to be the easiest).  Overall, an excellent experience highly recommended.

I stayed 3 nights in the lovely and elegantly appointed house. The owner was away and I was greeted by her employee who did not speak English very well. My room was beautiful suite with more than enough room and a sumptuous bathroom. The TV was in the bathroom and was not viewable from the main room. I didn't care as I was happy reading. The bed was a "Rock" and I was not able to get comfortable even after putting the blanket underneath me! The owner's dog was barking in the middle of the night which also kept me awake but I think this was because the owner was not present for the first 2 days. Location wise this was a great spot close to the convention center and restaurants. I would stay there again if they put a "topper" on the bed to provide a bit more comfort.

This B & B is one of the most beautiful and comfortable we've stayed in (and we are frequent travelers!) Our room was lovely, very large. The tub was a real treat, especially as the weather was cool and wet. Breakfasts were superb. And Mathilda was a gem of a host: warm, friendly, a pleasure to converse with and helpful in numerous ways. We highly recommend it!!

Our stay with Mathilda was fantastic! She is delightful and her home is lovely, in a great location. Breakfasts were delicious too! Mathilda was truly interested in our plans and made sure we had the best local insight to get the most out of our trip. She was also particularly helpful in navigating the tricky parking in DC! I highly recommend the Vermont Ave. B&B, hope to stay here again soon!

We could not ask for a better stay. We basically had the house to ourselves. We stayed in the room shown. It is quite large and has a large bathroom attached to it with a walk in shower, tub and electronic toilet. Bath salts were on the edge of the tub. The room is air conditioned and has a ceiling fan over the bed. The TV is in the sitting area in the bathroom, but that was fine because my husband stays up long after I go to bed. Free wifi and newspaper waiting with breakfast both mornings. Breakfast was prepared to order for the two of us. We didn't need to leave until late afternoon on Sunday and we didn't need to vacate until we were ready to go. The house is in a quiet area, but there is a bus stop just around the corner. You can walk to downtown and the sights. Also, Emma the dog is great for communing with if you miss your own dogs. Also the price was much better than the nicer hotels

My daughter finished college and is moving to Washington, and we picked Mathilda's wonderful B&B as our place to stay while getting to know the city. We couldn't have found a better place. There were so many reasons to be delighted! First, the location at Logan Circle cannot be better - it is very central and easy walking distance to many different neighborhoods. Logan Circle and the surrounding streets are historic and beautiful, with fantastic Victorian townhouses, lovely little front yards, and many trees in bloom (including magnolia trees). Secondly, the Bed and Breakfast itself is absolutely gorgeous! Mathilda is a professional decorator with a feeling for true elegance and restrained charm, and the interior was decorated with beautiful, high-end antiques and authentic 18th century paintings. We were in the Master Suite, which besides being extremely spacious, had the most wonderful bathroom (I will try to emulate when I redo my own!). The shower is fantastic, and we were happy to soak our tired feet in the enormous bathtub. Needless to say, everything was very, very CLEAN and the linens were very fine indeed. Thirdly, considering the size and beauty of our rooms, the cleanliness, and the lovely view out the windows, I thought it was "a lot of bang for the buck" and very reasonable in terms of price. Last but not least, we loved our gracious hostess who made us feel that her house was our own. Mathilda gives one privacy, but also is extremely helpful and attentive. THere is a truly magical atmosphere here at this bed and breakfast, partly because the neighborhood is lovely, and partly because the townhouse is so elegantly and evocatively decorated. Oh, and the breakfast was great too! In short, if you are looking for something really, really special and memorable, this most certainly is it! Thanks, Mathilda!

I recently stayed with Mathilda while I attended a conference held at the DC Convention Center. The location was excellent and within walking distance of the conference center as well as the White House. The room was large and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfortable. Mathilda was absolutely wonderful and accommodating. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Vermont B&B surpassed all my expectations. The location is convenient to downtown DC, but far enough off the beaten path to be quiet at night. The home is elegant. The hostess is friendly and helpful, but not in any way intrusive. The bath includes a large shower and a deep soaking tub. I would recommend the Vermont B&B for anyone on a business trip who wants to escape from the corporate experience at night or a solo or a couple on a short visit to DC who doesn't want the hassle or expense of a hotel.
