Reserved in mid Sept. Arrived ~4:10 pm after 400 mile drive. The place was deserted packages on steps. Listed number was not in service. Made calls to backup numbers and left messages. Never was called, messaged, or emailed.left messages. After an hour went to Omni Shoreham, 5 min away. Elevator, larger beds, prices in same range.
We made our reservations in March. Yesterday we received word that there was a New Owner from the old owner. He was reaching out to all of us because the New owner was NOT going to honor our reservation. I reached out to Expedia and as I was chatting with them, our reservation was cancelled. BEWARE!
Owner is an amazing person. I fell in love with the property and I am selective on where I choose to stay. Excellent home-feel environment. I highly recommend it. Services is great. Everything is top notch.
We booked last minute for 7/26/20. Friendly host, so kind and generous. Beautiful spacious room with large beautiful bathroom. Extra towels. Shampoo in dispenser is environmental friendly. I like that rather than plastic one use small bottles. Historical and exquisite wood work on molding, windows, 12 foot doors and fire place. Great to be in house with separate A/C units rather than shared ventilation service due to covid.
Where do I start? Everything was perfect. Jack was super friendly, helpful, and concerned that everything was to my satisfaction. Charming bed and breakfast with cozy accommodations; just steps from the metro and restaurants. I love this place and would stay again. It's inexpensive, friendly, clean and I enjoy the group breakfasts with the other visitor. On our reservation I had requested a late check in and Jack sent a detailed email with instructions. I enjoyed having the old tub in the bathroom, using a real key instead of a card, the friendly staff, the comfortable common space. Would highly recommend for those of you looking for a more personalized accommodation experience!
The house might be a bit old and not the biggest rooms but the location is perfect. The subways are very easy to use and close by. Very nice enviroment close the centre of the city and peacefull, loved having my breakfast on the porch. Jack is a great helpfull and kind host.
I arrived at Kalorama after less than 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours. Typically new beds bother me. The beds here had the most amazing mattresses and the bed covers were clean, crisp and cozy. I slept for 10 hours straight. The owner is very kind and let me check out a bit later as the fall back & time zone changes all at the same time confused me. This guest house is less than 3 blocks from the zoo entrance. And at 8 am, it is very peaceful with primarily walkers and the animals are all just starting to stir or be fed. Plan to return in the summer with my teenagers and Kalorama will be our first choice.
As I am sure most of you know, hotel options in D.C. proper is very expensive. If you want a more budget-friendly option, you are limited to questionable accommodations or out-of-the-way areas. Enter the Kalorama Guest House, which is easy on the wallet and a wonderful stay. I stayed here during a few days touring around Washington and had a delightful stay. The location is great; there are a lot of good local restaurants nearby for food and it is an easy walk down Connecticut Ave to Dupont Circle. There is also a metro stop that is a three-minute walk away and you are only a 10-minute ride from all of the major sights. The neighborhood around the guest house is also very nice. The guest house itself is also very charming. It has all of the characteristics of a historic house, with original details. The rooms are nice, with decent furnishings and a comfortable bed. I was also able to keep the room at a comfortable temperature easily. The bathroom was completely modern. The service was incredible. Everyone that I met was so nice and provided great information and tips about the surrounding area. They accommodated every one of my requests. The breakfast was great, too! Fair warning, though: there is no elevator in the guest house so if you are limited when it comes to climbing stairs, I would recommend notifying the guest house upon reservation. I definitely recommend the Kalorama Guest House if you are looking for a fantastic stay in a charming location! It is my new go-to in Washington, D.C.!…
Let's get the issues out of the way. This place is old and provides very basic amenities. The rooms are small and hard to clean, the window a/c is noisy, and the room floor and outside stairs are creaky. Every morning we would wake up to the strong smells wafting up from kitchen (we were on the second floor, mind you). Finally, the place is 8 minutes walk away from the nearest metro station, and pretty far from the main points of interest. When you do it twice every day, it becomes a lot. So I would have given this place one or two stars, but... The owner, Jack, is such an amazing host, that the entire experience was greatly improved. He really makes you feel at home. He also offers a nice breakfast buffet, as well as hot drinks 24 hours a day. Everybody who stayed there was super nice and friendly. When we left, Jack told us "This is your home", which summed up the entire experience. …
I really enjoyed staying at the Kalorama. The Kalorama is located in a great area, convenient to a lot of sights. I found several places to run (a lot of hills) despite being in DC for business. Jack's has a special brand of hospitality and welcoming spirit. I agree that the Kalorama isn't fancy but everything else was right. I also met several interesting guests who were also staying there.
