My husband and I came to stay for his birthday for a couple nights and ended up extending our stay another night! We started out in a Modern Spa room, which was a great choice, the room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the Jacuzzi spa was a delight. On night 2, we moved down the hall into the Ocean Front room. It was incredible! The balcony sits right across the street from Avila, they have a bistro table and an actual couch with bedding so you can lay there and enjoy the waves crashing. The king size bed in the room is comfortable. The room is spacious with a separate seating area. We loved the room so much that we added a night to our stay!
Avila is a fantastic beach, we live 30 minutes away and come here often. This was our first stay at Inn at Avila Beach and it was an excellent choice! The staff is accommodating, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are staying at a friends house. A special thanks to Marion at the front desk for all her help, Evan for that delicious pie and being so accommodating, and David for that morning hot chocolate, yummy breakfast food, and quick, friendly service.
The included amenities at this property are amazing! We rode bikes everyday at the nearby Bob Jones Trail with the great selection of free bike rentals, they have access to beach supplies, we walked across the street everyday and enjoyed the sand and sun. The Popsicles were a great included treat. We watched free movies from there vast library and munched on free popcorn. breakfast up on the patio with its amazing views was a daily included treat, and we headed back up there at 2 pm everyday for an included pizza snack and beer for hubby and a delicious smoothie for me! At 8pm we headed down to the lobby to feast on delicious warm freshly baked pies with ice cream! I can't say enough about the pleasant staff!
We hope to come back and stay again soon.
We were here during the Coronovirus so the town was pretty much shut down. We did eat daily at Mission Pizza down the street, which was still open for take out orders and has great food at a great price!

Room Tip: the ocean front are worth the price! The older spa rooms are a bit funky, but nice.

You and your significant other were delightful, Even with all the quirkiness that comes with the Inn, I am happy you guys found a great location to social distance from the craziness going on. Adding a night speaks volumes, and most importantly you guys were a first-hand proof of, "hey, we booked this but would like to explore other options,". Communication works! 2 rooms later, and we found a match! Every room is unique in its own right and everyone has different goals when they stay here so it's mutually beneficial for both parties to approach the front desk, because once you are here, you said it perfect, you are our best friends! Marion, David, and myself are just some of the bigger pieces to this gem of a property. We are excited for your return, give us a heads up if you are looking to book and we'll handle the rest! Kind Regards, Evan Hotel Manager

We stayed at the Inn, and thoroughly enjoyed our first two nights, and booked a third. It's a well-loved family business, quite friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit quirky in a good way, and they are are extremely clean. The management and workers take the current COVID-related hygiene and distancing recommendations very seriously, which we really appreciate. It's right across the street to the beach. The rooftop deck has many different places to sit and relax and has a great view of the beach. There are excellent morning coffee drinks and great croissants, rolls and fruit. There is evening pie, really good pie, and ice cream, who does that?! We will go back.

GlobeTrotting312538, This is amazing. To recognize so many things in a post is extremely appreciated. 3rd nights the charm, right? Covid has put a damper on a lot of us and certainly the Inn has had to change it's mannerisms, as the owner describes us, we are a "hug twice" hotel. Welcoming when you arrive and upon departure. The pie is dangerous. My waistline will attest for that these days. I hope you have a great final 2 months of the year. It's almost over! Be safe, Evan Hotel Manager

The Inn at Avila is as photographed and reviewed. The layout is a bit of a maze with lots of steps. Great place to walk off the morning croissants or evening pie and ice cream.

The decor reminded us of our hostel days of our youth. The hotel is located right along the promenade along the ocean within a short walk to Avila beach restaurants, cafes and stores.

We stayed in a classic room which included a jacuzzi tub, two sided fireplace and fridge/ microwave. There’s also a laundry room available for guests but you have to provide your own laundry soap.

As has been mentioned in other reviews, the staff here are stellar. This place truly represents the concept of hospitality.

The sun deck is absolutely the best part of the place. Intelligentsia coffee is served in the morning. The croissants were fresh and flaky. My husband enjoyed a strawberry smoothie for his morning beverage. The sun deck also has a BBQ grill and plenty of space for small groups to enjoy a meal together.

The evening pie was yummy.

This is a great spot to reconnect with your more youthful days while being well taken care of by staff who genuinely are welcoming and glad to have you stay.

Many of the restaurants are experiencing staffing shortages but we enjoyed good service and a good meal at the blue moon over Avila, a French restaurant right on the promenade with ocean views.

Kraken is a great spot for coffee and located right across the way from Inn at Avila.

Things are not the same at this hotel. The rooms are nice but a few of the things "included" have disappeared or are not as good. The hotel used to have pizza and beer on the rooftop in the afternoon for the guests. That is gone apparently due to "covid". Whaaat? The pie in the evening was served without ice cream, and the popsicles have disappeared. The remote controls in the rooms do not work, we have 3 TV's and no way to use them. This is the same with the other guests we have spoken with.
Coffee is available in the lobby, but not in the rooms.
The price has not dropped, just a few of the amenities.
The hotel staff is wonderful and the views can't be beat.

Thank you for kind words on our wonderful staff and service you received it’s big part of inns experience as well as oceanfront location ! We rated highest in Avila beach for our service and location ! Thank you also for being repeat guests … most of our guests are ! Looks tho been awhile since been with us we stopped afternoon reception free beer / pizzas nearly two years ago . Because of Covid a lot guests didn’t want hangout and share pizza so we suspended program , and frankly nobody missed it .instead we put $$ into better linens ,terryand items all guests could experience .. we still have only free coffee house hotel espresso experience on central coast ! Yes on in room coffee most fine hotels have gotten away from in room coffee makers ( always bit unsanitary and trend now fresh ground quality coffee instead instant of instant coffee that could be months old ) we serve fresh roasted coffee in two locations made small batches Look forward seeing you again !

My husband and I stayed 3 nights for our anniversary and loved it. The parking was free but could be limited if you get there late and a bit tight in spots if you have a large vehicle, but once you park you don't need to move your car much. The Inn has bikes you can borrow so we rode the nearby trails. You can walk to the beach (they have chairs you can borrow) and nearby restaurants. I appreciated the fridge and microwave in the room as I couldn't eat my whole dinner and would bring it home and heat it up for lunch. The breakfast menu didn't vary much but was good with a hot egg dish and a pastry or two to choose from. The smoothie was good and they make coffee to order. The sun deck is a great place to hang out at other times of the day than just breakfast. Lovely views and comfortable seating. We picked up some meals from the market and brought them back to eat on the deck. I also sometimes ate my pie and ice-cream on the deck which was a nice treat. You can't use the deck past I think 10 pm as they want it quiet from the rooms below. We splurged on the ocean view room. It wasn't fancy but it was comfortable and the views were great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Since our son is at Cal Poly, we will probably return in the future. We were fortunate to be able to stay Sun-Wed so it was a little cheaper and less crowded.

Thank you Andrea for the kind review! The Sundeck is awesome to run away from the hustle and bustle of a beach town. The ocean view rooms are definitely a favorite for obvious reasons, however it is great for the rest of the guests at the hotel to be able to enjoy a similar experience with having access to the Deck at their leisure. I am happy you guys were able to enjoy all of the fun amenities we provide at the hotel and we hope we can see you all soon when you visit the boy! Evan Hotel Manager

We felt ripped off by this hotel. Paid $469.00 and found
None of the advertised amenities were available. Not even microwave popcorn. Unavailability of amenities blamed on COVID! At checkout, we asked for a small bottled water, they refused to give or sell us one.
Room 207: Shower no working properly, scalding hot, no way to adjust water temp down. Barn door to bath room would not stay open, needs leveling. Internet connection was included, but we kept getting disconnected.

Daniel, I am so sorry you felt robbed by your experience, especially traveling from San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. The amenities we advertise at the hotel- Food: Breakfast on our rooftop 7:30AM-10:30AM Popsicles and Ice cream in our lobby throughout the business hours. Pie in the evening from 8:00PM until it is finished. I am confused that the water was not offered throughout your stay. I have spoken with my front office manager and it appears there was a misunderstanding. The popcorn as well. Both of these items are readily available. As far as the shower goes. These water valves seem to be tough for our guests to figure out. All those valves do different things and one of them happens to be water temperature. This isn't the first time a guest has mentioned water temperature issues. We will do a better job at explaining the water functions on the panel of the shower as neither of the last two guests expressed the same frustrations when we went to check on the room. Other than that, we opened up our beach chairs, umbrellas, bicycles, boogie boards, and beach toys to our guests. We just ask that after they are used that they are put to the side so they can be properly sanitized. We stopped doing our Afternoon Reception yes, because of Covid-19, however on a deeper level this epidemic has been hard on all of us and we had to pick and choose where we made our cuts. The $469 portion, I can totally understand if that's your main gripe considering you did not feel you got what you paid for. Please give me a call and I'd be more that happy to find a resolution for you. I noticed all of your other reviews are 5 stars, so we would love the opportunity to try and right this ship. (I have so much popcorn and so much water, there is no way I will allow you to go without it again) Be safe and Kind regards, Evan Hotel Manager Inn at Avila Beach 805-595-2300

I generally am not the type of person to leave online reviews, but after spending four nights here, I had to log in and write about the great stay. No, this is not a 5 star luxury hotel, but it nails the nostalgic beach motel vibe that its going for. The best part of the stay was the people- the gentleman who checked me in and served the nightly pie and ice cream, and especially the folks who took care of us every morning at breakfast on the sun deck. I can't say enough about how friendly they were. When I mentioned that I would be leaving the next day prior to breakfast, they offered to have some food ready for me to take with me on the road, which was very much appreciated.
The sun deck on the roof is definitely the best part of the stay- a lazy day up there would be worth the price alone. Amazing views, and very peaceful (at least at this time of year, I can imagine the summers might be a little more crowded).
As for the rooms, I didn't splurge on an ocean view, and as others have noted, the room was a little dark. But it had a comfortable bed, sofa, hot tub, and was clean. I didn't spend any time in the room other than to sleep, so that's all I needed.
It had a TV but didn't even turn it on, I spent so little time in the room. There's so much to see in Avila and surrounding areas, I didn't want to spend my time in the room. Even if I were to spend the day at the hotel, I'd rather be up on the sun deck than in my room anyways.
Hotel has bikes and beach chairs available for guest use, though I didn't use either. And in addition to breakfast, there is the pie and ice cream every evening (though I was disappointed guests didn't stay around and socialize- such is life in this COVID and iphone world), and free water and snacks at the front desk throughout the day.
I am already trying to arrange for another trip out here this year!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review! I always believe the staff interactions is half of the Hotel Experience. I am always happy to read when consistently each member nails their role in culminating a guest experience. Martin is amazing at welcoming our guests into the hotel and creating a comfortable environment. The Inn had brought the idea of receptions to the hotel to have such experiences, guest interactions with other guests and staff members alike, however as you pointed out, Covid has had an impact on that potential. We hope to see you all soon! Best, Evan Hotel Manager

We had an incredible three night stay and we really didn’t want to leave. It is such a friendly hotel, but don’t be fooled by the casual approach - everything is top notch and guest’s needs are more than catered for. We took advantage of all the hotel had to offer - popcorn, pie, beach chairs, fabulous breakfast, 24 hour tea and coffee. We actually preferred the housekeeping on request approach as the room was fully stocked with toiletries and we don’t feel the need for fresh towels each day - but I’m sure they would be provided if needed. Beach towels are freely available. All in all, we loved it and hope to visit again

I cannot say enough good things about our stay. My fiancé and I are in our late 20s/early 30s coming from northern CA for a last minute Labor Day weekend getaway. We travel a fair amount and although we had friends in the area, wanted to get a nice place to stay but figured it was unlikely we’d find something on a holiday weekend Sunday. Luck was on our side and super friendly/hilarious Evan took our phone call, reserved a room and checked us in when we arrived. Location and parking were very convenient. Lobby was really cool, with clean bathroom, TV, lounge area, records, board games, decor, and hosted water, coffee and tea. The inn itself had a very homey, fun tree house vibe while maintaining comfort. Evan offered towels, beer, wine, beach equipment, bikes, and places to eat or hang til our room was ready. We went with e-bike rentals around the corner. He shot us a call and a text when we were good to go. Martin was our guy when we got back, gave us a quick tour and was equally pleasant and hospitable. Sold us a bottle of bubbles and let us know about Joe Mommas cafe hosted coffee bar, smoothies and breakfast then next morning on their very rad sun deck. Then there was the room. I could rant on for as long as I did about everything else when it came to the room. I’ll leave it at “the most amazing room I’ve ever stayed in”. The young, sweet tattooed lady (who I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name) made our interactions with the front desk when we checked out a perfect 3 for 3. Our entire stay from beginning to end may have the best day and time my fiancé and I have had together in our 5 years as a couple. A big thank you to all who contributed. Everything about this place, especially the staff was nothing short of awesome. We’ll be back.

I appreciate you taking the time to write such an awesome review. As I say to a few of our return guests below, YOU GET US! Our staff is my favorite part of the hotel, however the view is pretty good too. You were lucky enough to enjoy one of my favorite rooms in the hotel, and that makes me happy that you guys enjoyed it as well. Overall, I'd give you and your Mrs. a 5/5 as guests. Kind, warm, and funny. What more could we ask for out of a guest. Definitely hope you get a chance to stay with us again! Best, Evan and the Inn at Avila Beach Staff

My husband and I have been staying at the Inn every year for or anniversary and any time we need a little couple time away from the hustle and bustle of our busy and chaotic life of both working full time, grad school at night, and being parents to a young son. The Inn at Avila is the perfect spot to rejuvenate your soul, reignite the romance or just enjoy the views of the Pacific. Every time we visit the staff treats us like family and goes put of tgeor way to make our stay the most amazing and perfect trip possible. With all the amenities of a high bed boutique hotel but without the cost and feel of one. They even have an entire room of board games, snacks, and videos for guests to take up to their room. They offer fresh baked cookies and a tea hour daily. There are so many amazing things about this place but you just need to go and experience this fabulous place yourself.

Hello Carol, We are a stairs only property. We have the people here to assist with luggage and any other items you may need taken up the stairs. After the pie and cookies and other delicious goodies, the stairs usually come as a solid equalizer to the morale compass.

Unfortunately Paul guy is a troll , he and his drunken crew were asked to leave and never come back over five years ago, Because impact on other guests stay ... he’s back making up fake reviews , when he’s actually never stayed since we asked him never to return . Trip advisor removes him. He Makes another false email address or has his girl friend write reviews , and reappears ...sad pathetic life .. and abuse of Trip advisor as well. Reader beware ... when I travel I check more one review for that reason.
