Tropicool Hotel has an away feeling even though it is only one block from the center of town. The property, which stretches between Burns Avenue and West Street, is dotted with flowering plants and fruit trees: guava, banana, plantain, lime, custard apple and more -- which add shade and coolness to the place. There are rooms with shared bathrooms, outside there are three individual cabins with private bath and cable TV, offering a little more privacy. Everything is meticulously clean from the outdoor sitting area to the bathrooms. This family-run hotel is well-established and includes a nicely stocked gift shop. Inside the hotel there is a bulletin board with helpful information on tours and activities in the area.

Getting my own space "not too small" in size (and where apart from the bed are also a built-in desk, a ceiling fan & a mirror) was a "pretty ok" deal, I would say, for just about 15 US$ a night which was actually not just for the room (in my opinion) but also for the "fair-sized yard" for an outdoor hangout just within the premises (with a fence all around and like a picnic set of a long table & some chairs in the middle of the yard). And, the owner couple was also "helpful & cooperative" with my questions regarding the general info about this town & the tour sites in the vicinity. So, just about the "only issue" I had at this place was the ceiling fan being "a bit too close" which was kind of a safety concern while staying here. And yes although being nicely in its own compound, this place is quite a convenient one with a "pedestrian street" right outside lined with various establishments (souvenir shops, travel offices, grocery stores & restaurants) and where those merchants extend past that street (to the right after coming out of this place where you can walk a "fair length" through that shopping area with also a pretty good Chinese restaurant on the left side along the way); and also there's the "town plaza" at just about a block straight ahead of this place (to the left after coming out then just very shortly to the right to go down the narrow lane straight to the plaza) where I "highly suggest" the restaurant called D-stock (a great place for breakfast early in the morning but also where you can eat pretty much throughout the day). And yes, the convenience is not just for food & shopping but also for transportation with the local Westline buses just on one side of the "town plaza" (as just mentioned but across the plaza from the side when you come down from this place) whether you're going to: Xunantunich with its bus stop just about a 10-minute ride away beside the Mopan River followed by a short ferry ride across the river & about a 20-minute walk to that ruin site (with its "great-sized" El Castillo for some amazing views from the top); Cahal Pech with its bus stop at just about halfway between the town & the stop for Xunantunich followed by a walk up a "slight-inclined" way for just 5 minutes or so to that site (with smaller structures than Xunantunich and also covering a more compact ground area but still one for a nice walk around); or all the way to Belize City which is about a 2.5-hour ride away (not too bad although on a "hard seat" on a non-luxury bus).

The beds were comfortable and it’s located in the core of the downtown which makes it very convenient. The downfall of this is that the bars play very loud music till late in the night and you can hear absolutely everything that goes on in the city. There’s no AC which makes it hit during the day but as we weren’t in the room much it was fine for sleeping.

We booked a room at Tropicool Hotel pretty last minute. The price was right and the location was good. Overall we had a pretty good experience. The owners and staff were very helpful. We had wifi easily accessible. The location was great for our next-day travel plans (within a short walk from restaurants and bars as well). Additionally, they had off-street parking, which was really helpful. They even let us leave our car there an extra day!! This was a HUGE service for us. Overall, if you're on a budget and don't mind simple and clean facilities, this is a great option.

DON'T BOOK this hotel if you don't want to get ROBBED BY THE OWNERS! The daughter (Caisy or so) of the owners offered us to leave our bags after the check out because we had to wait for our bus. We asked if the room is save and she said the room is locked and we will be the only ones with access to the room with our stored bags. We were the only ones with our bags in the room. We thought it was very kind and we left her a tip for this service. We trusted her and so we ended up robbed by her or another family member. As the hotel is runned by only family members it must have been one of them. As there are a lot of cameras in the hotel it would have been possible to see who entered the room on the videos, but when we asked the owner she said it is not possible to see the videos. At this point we were sure that they robbed us, otherwise it would not have been a problem to see the video. They didn't care at all! Unfortunately we had to catch our bus to Mexiko and had not the time to call the police and all these things. TO THE OWNERS: Shame on you to steal from your hotel guests! It seems that you haven't understood your business and we hope one day no one will book with you anymore.

Our rooms were clean and had everything we needed. The bathrooms are shared but are also kept clean. The hotel is very central with the main strip of restaurants and tour companies right outside. Friendly owners.
