We spent three nights in Corozal and we definitely picked the right accommodations.

Celeste is a beautiful woman with a warm and caring heart.

Our room was basic with hot water, a stand up fan and window box air conditioning. Soft cotton sheets on the bed were a treat and thick plush towels in the bathroom were welcomed. There is filtered water downstairs near the kitchen that you can help yours of too and a fridge with cold beverages upstairs with a list of prices.

There is a fabulous patio on the second floor overlooking the ocean that catches the breeze. A perfect spot to sit and chill out.

Coffe and tea is available in the kitchen. Hands down best coffee!!! You will even see that some of the locals come for what they call "best coffee in Belize"!

Celeste even brought breakfast to us on the veranda - perfectly cooked boiled eggs and a platter of freshly cut fruit. Wow!

And I have to mention Bingo, the most adorable little doggie who just loves all the guests once she has had an opportunity to greet them inside the reception area. She loves belly rubs!!

Another mention, Celeste took me to her secret spot for a little early morning yoga near the ocean. Wowers!!

If you're looking for a place with heart and made to feel like home, you've found it. Thanks Celeste for making our stay in Corozal even better because of your hospitality.

We had only planned to stay there for 1 night & move on to Chetumal the very next morning.
Instead we were shocked to realize that we had forgotten our passports in a fisherman village - about a 3 hour bus drive from Corozal! With a bus connection only twice a day!

Before panic fully set in we met Gwen - the owner of Sea Breeze in Corozal. He SAVED us!!!!
Gwen immediately made phone calls, wrote text messages & emails and came up with 3!!!! rescue plans for us getting our passports back asap.
It all worked out with zero effort for us and we had our passports back in our hands the very next day.
Since he is not only the best passport rescuer in Belize but also really fun to drink a beer with we stayed another night at his clean & very economic place.
We enjoyed our stay very much! Thank you for everything Gwen!

We visited Rum Punch Lodge and after a very uncomfortable night because of the springs from the matress we commented on that. I still gave them an 8/10 because it was clean and the host was polite and helpful. Immediately after this, she looked us up and gave our business a very bad rating. She has never come into our business, but made up all sorts of lies about the products we sell, where it comes from and was racist and demeaning. Very unprofessional on her part.

Response from Celeste Kimberly, General Manager at Sea Breeze Hotel
Responded 12 Apr 2023
Dear Blanca, As the manager of Rum Punch Lodge, I would like to address the review you recently posted. We take all reviews seriously and strive to provide exceptional service to our guests, which is why we were disappointed to read your comments. Firstly, we would like to clarify that the negative review on your business has no connection to our property. As an establishment that has been owned and operated by indigenous Maya women for over 35 years, we find the accusation of racism against Hispanic guests to be odd, especially considering that you mentioned the service you received was very polite and helpful. Furthermore, during our review process, we found that you had also left a 1-star review on Google for the Town of Corozal, describing it as "very basic" and mentioning the absence of a beach. We would like to highlight that Corozal Bay is one of the largest protected marine reserves in Latin America, and we take great pride in our conservation efforts. Your negative review not only impacts our business, but also has a detrimental effect on our entire town, which is largely comprised of native Maya and people of African descent. We understand that unlearning racism is a complex process that may be subconsciously engrained into one's personality. However, we urge you to consider how your actions can have a negative impact on a vulnerable population and economy. As a business that values inclusivity, diversity, and sustainability, we are committed to promoting a positive and respectful environment for all our guests, regardless of their background. We appreciate your feedback and would be happy to engage in constructive dialogue to address any concerns you may have. We sincerely hope that we can take this as a learning opportunity and work towards building a better understanding and perception of our property and the community we are proud to be a part of. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Rum Punch

The hotel is right across a main road in town from the bay. That said it faces the wrong way to catch the breeze off the bay. It is a cement building with no more ambience than a jail cell. No air in the room we stayed in. (although we did have a stand alone fan) We stayed for three days and saw no children stay. There is a bar upstairs which goes hard some nights. The owner is not very friendly and often to busy doing 'other things' to help the guest. I asked for something twice and both times he told me he was to busy to do it. I also heard two other guests ask for something and he told them he was to busy to do it. The rooms are cheep, but it really isn't worth it!

Response from ToraBelize, Owner at Sea Breeze Hotel

Prominently displayed on the lobby counter of The Sea Breeze Hotel is the following document. "We try hard to run a clean, comfortable, budget hotel. If you have any problems, please talk to a member of staff. Hopefully we can remedy the situation. In the event that we cannot, It is hotel policy to offer refunds to guests who have legitimate complaints. We also offer free transportation to any other local establishment." After 4 years in business and over 5,000 guests, we know that we cannot be all things to all people all the time. We would prefer that unhappy guests move elsewhere. It is better for them and better for us. The refund is a small price to pay to maintain harmony. So it is a puzzle that any guest would stay for 3 days who was this unhappy with the hotel. Nevertheless, the issues should be addressed. The building faces south, and the prevalent trade winds blow from the east. 6 of our 7 rooms have east facing windows. The 7th has A/C. In case the wind is not blowing all rooms have fans. The hotel does overlook the Bay, but the road in front of it is not a main road. The main road through Corozal is called the Northern Highway and is a half mile away. The building is made of concrete. Wooden buildings with thatched roofs look pretty but house an assortment of bugs and have a tendency to blow away in hurricanes. Our rooms are clean and simple and no-one else has thought them to be like a jail. The comment about children baffles me. Yes, we have a bar. But it closes before 9pm unless all the guests happen to be in it. Like anyone, I have my ups and downs and yes, running a hotel is a full time business. But guests do come first.. Your request would have to be very weird for me to ignore your needs. This review is a little strange on many levels. Why pay to stay in a hotel, if, by your own admission, you would rather sleep in the street? One night, perhaps. But three? That is not normal.

I picked the Sea Breeze from a travel book in 2012 and loved it. This June (2013) I returned to Corozal and was looking forward to staying there again. Gwenn has run the place for years and he remembered me from my last visit. It was almost like renewing an old friendship. A great value; beautiful view with a breeze off the bay, lots of hot water and great showers, clean room, and lots of services. A very enjoyable stay. I will stay here again when I return in early 2014.

Just showed up here randomly and was lucky to get a room for my girlfriend & I, the hotel later filled up that night. Excellent location, aptly named place as the breezes pick up in the evening making a non aircon room completely fine. Hotel offers excellent value services (bikes, breakfast, laundry) that we took full advantage of. The owner Gwyn is a stand up guy with tons of experienced advice and knowledge about Belize and beyond, a great help for further trip planning. Also a nice hotel to meet other travelers and the odd local or four. Highly recommended for Corozal.

I stayed for two nights at The Sea Breeze Hotel and was definitely impressed! So much so that I plan to make another stop as I will be passing through Corozal once more on my travels!

The hotel is a cozy environment, and it is easy to get to meet the other guests. Gwen the owner is also extremely helpful & friendly. Couldn't ask for a better host, he was a great resource for planning the next leg of my trip.

I stayed in the 'premium' room, which included a private bath/shower, cable tv, nice furniture, and wifi throughout the hotel. All this for about $30usd. Great value if you ask me!

Kitchen available, great porch for hanging out on, reading, meeting the other guests and enjoying a beer from the bar! Check it out!

I requested a booking for a single room and that I would arrive about 5.00 pm. After some discussion the owner said shall I pencil you in? I replied yes. Shortly after the owner sent another email and said that he would only hold the room for so long. I would have to send credit card details or arrive before 5.00 pm. I knew I would be arriving before 5.00 pm, so I thought my booking was secure. I arrived at the Sea Breeze Hotel at 4.01 pm and there was a sign at the front stating that the hotel was full. I went into the lobby where the owner was and said I had booked a room. The owner asked had I paid for the room and I said I thought I had a booking. Then the owner said he would hold the room only until 4.00 pm and as I had not appeared by that time, he had given the room to someone else. However the truth was that he had said he would hold the room until 5.00 pm and he knew that I expected to arrive at that time anyway. In my opinion the owner of Sea Breeze Hotel is untrustworthy and you may make a booking with him, however he will reneg on it, if it suits him.

Response from ToraBelize, Owner at Sea Breeze Hotel
Responded 6 Jan 2013
Recently there have been a couple of negative reviews about The Sea Breeze from travelers who have never stayed at the Hotel. Personally I find it difficult to comprehend how someone can judge cleanliness, sleep quality or value when they have never stayed at the hotel. In the interest of transparency I will publish the full text of all the correspondence from this last guest. Guest. Do you have a single room, preferably air-conditioned, for 1 person for the night of 3 January 2013? My preference would be a premium room with a balcony. Currently I am in Orange Walk and I will be arriving about 5.00 pm. Me, I might have one room with A/C but NOT the balcony room. It depends if the present occupant moves out tomorrow. He is undecided and not here to ask. When he comes in, I will ask him to make up his mind. Happy New Year, Guest, If aircon is not available, another room will be OK. Me. I definitely have one room without A/C. Shall I pencil you in? Guest. Yes Me. Without a deposit I can only hold this room for so long. You either need to send me a valid cc # or arrive before 5pm. What would you like to do? That is the complete transcript of our e mail correspondence. The guest never responded to the final question. This leaves me in a quandary. Has he changed his mind and altered his itinerary? Is he still arriving? Who knows? All he would have had to do is to respond to the final question. WHICH HE DID NOT DO. Nor did he phone. So the next day, when another guest arrived wanting the room at 4pm, I rechecked my e mails and, having still had no response, I sold the room. One minute later in walks this person. He does not mention that I left my hotel, walked with him up the street to another hotel with similar pricing, introduced him to the receptionist and waited while she checked that she had availability, shook his hand and returned to my hotel. Instead, he says “he knew that I expected to arrive at that time anyway.” How? By telepathy? In this modern age travelers have the ability to change their itineraries at very short notice. Meet someone you like, why not hook up and travel together for a while? See a special offer, why not take advantage of it? That is the beauty of iPhones and the internet. Which is why hotel owners need deposits, or assurances, so that rooms do not sit empty when other people need them. So now you have the facts before you. Put yourself in my place. You be the judge on whether this person had a confirmed reservation. Whatever you decide, also ask yourself another question, “how can someone who has never stayed at a hotel rate the cleanliness, service and value?” Which is what he did.

We stayed here on our way through to Cancun and are sorry we did!!!!. The rooms are not as advertised. They are small...the bathroom was not clean...it was moldy! The owner was VERY obviously drunk and VERY rude!!!!. We returned to the hotel at 9PM after dinner to find the place locked up like Fort Knox and no way in. It took 2 hours for the neighbours to finally get hold of the owner who grudgingly let us in. When we complained about the lack of service he yelled "that if we didn't like it, we could go to hell for all he cared".

Response from ToraBelize, Owner at Sea Breeze Hotel
Responded 24 Mar 2014
It is the reality of running a small budget hotel that there will always be some bad reviews. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. But often a poor revue will point out a flaw that can be remedied and therefore has a positive side. Ocassionally a bad review will be posted by someone who has never stayed at the hotel. This usually originates from a nearby competitor who is experiencing low occupancy rates. This is one such review. It has been cobbled together by examining past comments and amalgamating them into a new, but phony, review. What is rare is that the reviewer posted, on the same day, (March 22nd) a positively glowing review of The Copper Horse Inn, a nearby (100 yards away) competitor. In that review she states that it is the 2nd time she has stayed at the Copper Horse Inn. She wrote a good review after the first stay also. So why would she find herself at The Sea Breeze? From her comments it is blatantly obvious that she never stayed at The Sea Breeze. Our guests are supplied with all keys necessary to enter the hotel. There is a night bell. My neighbors are my friends and retire for the night about 10pm. There is no way anyone could take 2 hours to gain access between 9pm and 11pm. Of course, if you have never actually stayed at the hotel, how would you know. Rainy season ended in the first week of January and with it, any damp and mold. (Hence the name "dry season"). All our rooms were repainted by February. Of course if you have never actually stayed at the hotel, how would you know? Our rooms are photographed without trickery and the images posted on our web site. Most unforgivingly, she cast aspersions at my staff. As any real guest will tell you, my cleaning staff are honest and hard working. They have been with me for many years and deserve better than a cheap shot from a mean spirited competitor. She also referred to me as drunk and rude, but I have the ability to defend myself, unlike my staff. This review is fraudulent, but seldom are such liars so inept. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the owner of The Copper Horse Inn and her returning guest assembled this review to increase her Trip Advisor rating and diminish mine. Shame on them. The travelling public deserve honest reviews from fair minded people. Gwyn Lawrence, owner, Sea Breeze Hotel.
