I visited Whipray in June. A few "things" must be mentioned: Weather and fishing conditions were poor. The water level was low, so the flats fishing was very bad. Julian's wife and the chef were absent due to illness and family issues. Regardless, we had a great time. I caught my Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish and got casting lessons that were...

I stayed with Bev and Julian Cabral in early January 2014. I came to Whipray to fish for Permit on foot, walking a flat and casting to sighted tailing fish. That was my goal and Julian Cabral made it all possible. With Julian’s kind help (and even one of his own flies!) I was eventually able to spot, cast, hook...

Whipray Caye is an idyllic small island with terrific little lodge and fishing service. Last June I spent the day with a local fishing guide trolling outside the reef off Placencia, then drop line fishing that afternoon/evening. Unfortunately, the boat motor wouldn't restart. We drifted slowly toward shore from about 23 miles out....with no cell service or radio. Around 9...

Julian and Beverly were the best. Great food, great hosts and lots of laughs. The place to get away from it all! The variety of fish (permit, bonefish and tarpon) as well as jacks, barracuda and the delectable boxfish were found in abundance. Nobody works harder than Julian and Daniel to find fish and coach you in your fishing adventures....

If you want to catch permit go to whipray caye lodge. Julian is THE permit guide. Julian and Beverly made Whipray feel like home - in Belize! After a long day of fishing an ice cold Belikin caps off the day.

Went out to Whipray from May 1-6 and had a blast. Bev and Julian are very friendly and there helper louis is nice as well. They treat you like family(who they must tease a little bit) and make it a very fun and comfortable setting. The island is the most beautiful around and you are near some of the best...

Staying at Whipray Caye and having the honor of being guided by Julian was really the trip of a lifetime. My boyfriend and I learned more about permit in 3 days than in the WEEKS of being guided trips for permit we'd gone on over the last few years. Julian, in my opinion, is the best permit guide in the...

Julian and Beverly are the nicest hosts we've ever had. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and take care of everything you might want or need. And their cooking is superb. The resort here is small but cozy. It is a great place to stay esp if you are planning to fly fish or dive...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Capt. Julian Cabral is one of Belize's top fly-fishing guides for permit, tarpon and bonefish, and as such is a great source of information about the area. Having Julian around makes fishing out of Whipray an experience you will never forget. The permit fishing is excellent and there are few places that offer better shots at this challenging fish. Several of the permit flats and tarpon lagoons are only a five minute boat ride away from the island. Bonefish go where there are white sandy flats and Julian knows where to find them to round out your Grand Slam! At the end of the day swap fishing stories around the bar while waiting for yet another epic meal in the restaurant before going to your comfy room for a great night's sleep to be up before dawn to start your new day on the crystal clear waters of Belize. ... more   less
