Detailed Reviews
We truly enjoyed this resort- the best bar experience in our 10 days in Belize. The staff was very friendly- they served a large draft Belikin. Fred was a fantastic bartender. The rooms are quite rustic, but very appropriately priced and have air conditioning.

+1
We had just arrived in Belize from Cancun Airport via the ADO to Chetumel and Chickenbus to Orange Walk and found with luck we found Lamani Riverside Retreat. And what a little treat it was. No frills or posh stuff, just down earth and a clean Cabanna (with A/C, TV and Bathroom & Shower). The food was good local food. The owner (Raul and his wife) were extreamely friendly and helpful. We were originally going to get on the bus to Belize City to hire a car from there for the rest of our trip, but Raul found us a local place in Orange Walk to hire a really nice 4 Wheel Drive Toyota and a lot cheaper. He even arranged to take us back to Chetumel for us to get the ADO Bus back up to the airport at the end of our holiday. The resort is directly on the bank of the New River, which gives a nice cooling breeze as opposed to the oppressive heat in the town. It was the perfect place for us to arrange for our Lamani Maya Ruins trip as the boat picks you up from you front door step, so to speak.

We stayed here just by chance in May 2010. We went on the Lamanai Ruins tour which departed near this property. As we were boating by on the New River we saw the restaurant and decided to stop after our tour to have a meal.
The staff and owner was accomodationg and the service was great. There was a function going on in a banquet room off of the bar/restaurant and it was so fun to watch the local families celebrating a child birthday. We felt like we were part of the occasion with these beautiful, friendly people.
We ended up staying in the rooms off of the bar/restaurant (noise was NOT a problem since we closed the place at around 10:30p) The rooms are standard but have air and hot water. Two items that are not prevailent throughout Belize in the moderate to standard room category.
The owner Rowell was a gracious host that got up early so as to have hot coffee for us before we departed on a long road trip. He has great knowledge of his beloved country and had numerous recommendations for us.
This property is not for everybody. But then again, Belize is probably not for everyone. I left there thinking that the Belizeans were the most friendly people I have met throughout the world. And I have travelled to alot of places.
I would go back and stay with Rowell at Lamania Outpost Resort again.

Stayed here as first stop on Belize trip.
Mr P picked us up from Bus station at 06.00 in the morning which was great and gave us coffee. That morning we went on the lamina tour which was out of this world and he had organised everything for us.
Later that night his son Lance took us into town and showed us around. We all had dinner together which was great. The daughter works on reception and is really lovely and helpful. We had cockroaches in our shower when we arrived later in the evening and they were very apologetic.
Lance does tours and took us out the next day and we did 7 hours of cave tubing which was out of this world. His knowledge is very good and he has a lot of contacts (ask him to stop for journey cakes from his female friend they are the best !)
After our full day f tubing we were even dropped off in Belize city which was great. During the day we stopped for a lot of knowledge and info as well as a lot of local treats which was great including the local rum !
Thank you guys for a great stay you were all wonderul

We have now stayed here twice...once two years ago and again last week.
We can't speak to the rooms as we camped out front both times, but the family that runs the place is extremely pleasant, there's a great view of the river (only feet away) and our dinner was absolutely brilliant!

Robert and I enjoyed the Lamanai Riverside Retreat. Our rooms were wonderful, also had A/C for you A/C lovers. Food, and spirits were excellent. The location was perfect. Mr. P and his family have it going on. Saw lots of wildlife(manatee&morlet's crocidile), and enjoyed the boat ride to Lamanai ruins. We will be back. Good people...

We were travelling on tour bikes at this point so we didn't stay in their rooms but camped next to restaurant in the grassy field. The staff here are exceptionally nice and look after you well. Rowell the owner and his whole family helped us out a great deal and never hesitated to give a helping hand or a helpful hint while we had some trouble with out tent around this time.
Their location is hands down the best in town. Right on the Lamanai River and away from the busy town. Their grounds are spacious and secure. The restaurant here deserves a special mention because their food is truly the best in town. Everyone comes to eat here who can pay for it, the locals, the workers from the sugar mill and ofcourse the tourists as well.
The tours they organize (or at least the tour guides they work with) are the best in our opinion. They really took us on an excellent tour of the river and the Lamanai maya site itself (Indian Church), which is breathtaking and completely unique in that it is the only one designed along the edge of a body of water.
The only downside for staying here is that they like to get their karaoke love on, so it can be a bit loud until fairly late. But why not just join in? Rowell has been in a band his whole life and the man can and does sing very well (and loves it too). Don't look elsewhere as the other options are nowhere near as good, besides everyone ended up eating here or moving here after staying somewhere else.

I have always visited for food and drinks here and just stayed for the first time. Very friendly owners with beautiful bird viewing. They were able to organize a tour to Lamanai for us and it was great!

Our visit to Lamanai Riverside Retreat was better than we could have hoped. Our room was clean, with hot water for the shower (if desired), although I preferred the cold shower as the weather was quite warm. The location right on the river is serene and relaxing, perfect to get away from the hustle and bustle of Orange Walk Town, but close enough that walking to bars and restaurants was an easy jaunt. Tons of wildlife in and around the river, with birds, crocs, and iguanas within eyesight. We had amazing breakfast served to us by the owner, he is a fantastic host, at the bar/restaurant that is on site. We stayed in a room but they do offer camping and RV parking if needed. We will definitely visit here again next time we come to Belize, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay.

The hosts were really helpful, organising tours & running us round from the airport & to the bus station. The rooms are basic but have aircon. The location is amazing, next to a crocodile river with lots of bird life. Good breakfasts can be ordered too.
