This posada is located up from the beach and marina where boats scurry back and forth to the far side of Lake Atitlán. Great view of the lake and the volcanos. Sat outdoors, under a huge canvas shade cloth and had a delicious lunch -- with live marimba music (6 musicians). Ordered Guatemalan foods: the daily plate (chicken, beans, rice, fried plantains) and the "national dish" -- Pipián (chicken and potatoes in a spicy stew-like broth). The daily plate was well prepared but boring. The Pipián was outstanding!! The restaurant offers a full bar. The waitstaff were attentive and helpful. Prices were not expensive. Overall it was a great experience and we would recommend a stop here before or after you take your boat ride across the lake.
This place had nice breakfast. My boyfriend did not get exactly what he ordered (bread instead of tortilla’s and fruit instead of juice). Very nice view and nice waiters!! The place was super clean as well
We had a delicious breakfast on the covered patio with a spectacular view of the lake. The fruit juices were delicious, and so was the veggie omelet. The service was great, and it's a great spot to take photos. They have hammocks and beautiful gardens.
We liked the extensive grounds, the sauna, the colonial decor, apparent security, and central location near the lake. But the arrangement of rooms let in noise from anyone passing, and the usual amenities such as tissues were lacking. What really put us off was the drunks in the pool supplied with beer bottles and glasses by a servile staff. Dangerous and inexcusable.
My wife and I stayed the nights of June 8th and 9th at La Posada de Don Rodrigo and had a very positive experience. The room (lake view) was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well kept. Location was really good, breakfast was enjoyable and the very well kept landscape made the hotel look very different and typical. Our greatest gratitude to Gerardo (who checked us in), Gustavo, the manager, who was always very on top of everything to make sure that all was going extremely well during our stay, and also Wendy whom we spoke to for a long time at Reception before we departed from the hotel; she was so professional, friendly and nice that definitely left the last very positive impression on us from La Posada De Don Rodrigo. We would like to highly commend the Housekeeping, Restaurant and all rest of the Staff members for having been so kind to us from the beginning to the end of our stay. Muchísimas gracias a todos por habernos tratando tan sumamente bien y haber logrado que pasáramos una estadía excepcional llena de atenciones y gentilezas. Siempre les recomendaremos!!!! Jorge and Ana San Juan…
Excellent accommodations. The grounds are spectacular. The location is perfect. Everything is close. The dock to take boats to other cities is a 5 minute walk, shopping and eating are steps outside the hotel. Try the hotel hibiscus drink you won’t be disappointed.
Stayed 3 nights Posada Don Rodrigo Panajachel, I can't say enough how beautiful this place is along with the wonderful Customer Service. Thank you to Pascua, Gustavo general manager. Alex, Victor, Rosa and Evelyn in the kitchen. Entire Staff for making us feel like family. The Sauna and Pool the Marimba and Food is so yummy. Don't listen to any negative reviews you will love this hotel Thank you for an Amazing time.
They took more than 1 hour to serve the food, they made a mistake with one plate and by the time we were informed they were out of that so they offered something else as a courtesy, by the time the check came, they did charged us for the “courtesy plate” and refused to make any changes. They made several mistakes to several people as well. Awful service and experience.
Oldish hotel, but excellent location, right next to the lake (Atitlan) and in the village itself. Superb views My stay was too short to take full advantage of the amenities, unfortunately. we were able to take a nice boat ride right from the shore of the lake, by the hotel
We also stayed at the Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo in Antigua, Guatemala. It was MUCH nicer. The Panajachel location was nothing spectacular, although the view is amazing. The rooms were nice, but hot water is at a premium. The food was very mediocre.
