I've been travelling for 5 months now and wanted a place to relax and regroup before getting back on the backpacker trail. Hotel Modelo was the perfect haven. The staff are so friendly and attentive and are always smiling. The breakfast selection is extensive and very tasty and the rooms are spotlessly clean. If you're looking for modern, chic rooms...

Hotel Modelo is a simply gorgeous, elegant hotel (at a very reasonable price) - the artwork and furniture, the accommodations - spectacular. Breakfast is included in the price. The owners are something like 3rd generation and take great pride in their hotel. The sense of family while there is evident, though it's easy to keep a low profile and relax...

It is not the Holiday Inn, but if you want a centrally located old world charm of a hotel, here it is. I've known the place for 20 years now. It is not totally soundproof from the street or the staff talking in the morning, but I do love the place. It is more expensive than it was and the...

Modelo was one of Xela's most elegant hotels at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, thanks to good management by family ownership it retains much of its classic charm and efficiency. Of course, today there is the noise of traffic to bear. Select a room if possible not facing the front of the hotel. The dining room serves just...

We stayed in room 7. It has a queen bed. Firm yes, the floor would as soft. Bass from a nearby disco was problematic. It was no problem being by the kitchen we eliminated all the street noise. The problem with the high windo mentioned in another review is exaggerated. Clean and retro would recommend. Test the beds first

I have stayed here since 2002. Every time I show up the front desk staff welcome me back. I like rooms 6 and 7 because they do not face the street and are the quietest. Others comment that there are screens on the bathroom, not windows, but no one can see in, they are too high. Beds are firm, free...

This hotel was very unique and convenient to central Xela, but our room was not one I would want again! The bathroom had a "Window" which was just a screen that didn't latch and it opened into the hallway right outside the kitchen door. So anyone walking by was privy to everything going on in the "privy"!!!! All kitchen smells...

This is a nice hotel. Includes breakfast but it is just a basic breakfast, extra for more traditional breakfast. Rooms are spacious, clean and furniture is from 1940s but that adds to the energy of the hotel. Rooms are a bit cold but every hotel in xela is the same. Staff is great, restaurant staff wears traditional aboriginal outfits. Prices...

Hotel Modelo, where do you start? The parrots, the typewriters, the motorbikes? This hotel may have some minor issues but it won us over with it's undeniable charm and helpful service. It's near the centre, a couple of minutes walk and so location is great. We took room 11 which was a family room with dividing doors, 4 large beds...

We've stayed here a couple times and it's always been a great experience. The history of the hotel as well as the family that runs it make it a very unique place. The food is amazing. It's clear that service is top of mind for all employees. We love the 'bar' area. I requested to have my breakfast, lunch and...
