While the check in process was smooth, the rooms require some serious upgrades, the carpets made the room smell very musty and old. The furniture needs upgrading if this is to be called a 5 star hotel. I spent 6 nights at this hotel Breakfast was good, lunch and dinner was quite terrible. Pool area needs serious upgrading, portable tents with cheap tables were an eye sore. Staff were generally helpful. I stayed on the first floor and the noise factor from the other rooms was an issue. I tried walking down the emergency exit stairs only to be met by a guard who said, No, No Exit here, go back........which as you know was impossible since the emergency exit doors do not allow re entry to any floors for security purposes......I eventually convinced him to let me exit, but it was a scary ordeal. Also, all hotel security guards carry firearms, so be prepared.…
The noise coming from the outside bar at night makes it impossible to sleep before 2am. Radio blaring. The carpet in room was filthy, entire hotel is shabby, peeling paint, not clean. Would NEVER stay here again.
Wonderful restaurant, with good service, fine food and plenty of it. The swimming pool and cabana area were clean and comfortable, Our room was clean and had a great view of the pool and surrounding hillsides. We could see the statue of Jesus on the mountain. The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever been to. Service from baggage handling to shuttle transfer to the airport was superior.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this Hotel. I have never been to Honduras and did not know what to expect. My corner room on the 7th floor had amazing views! The lights over the city at night was so relaxing. The food that I had there was just delicious and the staff was so welcoming. If I ever find myself in Tegucigalpa again I would look forward to staying here once more.
I've visitied Honduras several times to help improve the lives of people in rural villages. We end each trip with a night in the Hotel Maya, and it is a great, refreshing way to acclimate back to a more American feel of things. We have a great dinner from the staff and breakfast is deicious as well. We've always felt safe here and been treated well.
This is one of the oldest hotels in Tegucigalpa, it might not be the fanciest, yet, they have made a good effort to take the Honduran cuisine to that level that anyone can eat it without the risk of getting sick. Do try their coffee, and semitas (local bread) and the fried beans with tortillas.
I recently stayed at Honduras Maya for 6 days while attending a festival. The staff were all very attentive and the facilities top notch. I noticed other reviews here talking about outdated rooms etc. My room was absolutely fine and modern. It seemed all the front desk staff spoke English and that was helpful at times when I didn't quite have the Spanish words. Breakfast was good and it's always convenient to have it stretch over 4 hours! The pool is fantastic and the grounds are very well kept. The immediate area seems just fine but I didn't venture outside of that if I was alone. One small problem though is that on the first night (Saturday) that I stayed there. The band in the bar was just below my room and I was on the 5th floor. There was no way to fall asleep with the noise. I'm not sure if that happens every Saturday but there are a number of events that happen over the week I was there but no band like that first night. I'd say get a room not over the bar! I would definitely stay here again.…
Good rooms, fantastic beds. Clean and safe. Nice centralamerican breakfast. The hotel is a microcosmos - lots of local events with glamourous dresses. I highle recommend the beauty salon in the basement floor - very gentle and friendly service.
A wonderful day at the Pool. Steambath and sauna available and working. Try out the magnificent ground floor bar from 5 pm onwards. Outstanding selection of cold beers from around the world. Excellent service. Unfortunately no smoking within the entire Hotel area, even outside. The little fat guard becomes pretty rude.
Pros- 1.Staff were lovely. A special thank you to the housekeeping staff on the 6th floor who went above and beyond to accommodate my wacky schedule with a smile, and to the restaurant staff who didn't blink an eye when I ordered dinner at 7:30 am. 2.Centrally located. 3. Clean, comfortable rooms. 4. Beautiful swimming pool area 5. Very nice lounge/bar area. Live entertainment on some nites 6. Within walking distance of nice shops and restaurants 7, free wifi 8. Well equipped gym Cons; 1.Well equipped gym had no air conditioning (actually there is one in there but it was never on and it was very hot in there). 2. Elevators are a disaster, one morning 2 of them fell a couple of floors (no injuries but scary). Also you need your room key to use them, and the room keys only work for a day or two and then you need a new one. And no I did not leave it near my phone or any electrical device that could've messed with its magnetic strip. Sometimes they took forever to get to the floor. You cannot bypass the elevator and use the stairs, I found out the hard way, because once you're in the stairwell you are locked in the stairwell. 3. Bathrooms are very small and the hairdryer quit after 2 or 3 minutes. 4. Coffee maker didn't work. 5. Very loud when there is a band playing in the lounge. Overall, despite the cons, the staff were so friendly and helpful that I really couldn't get too upset over the minor inconveniences.…
