Riad El Ghalia is a prince palace built back in the 18th century. Located in the heart of the old medina's Andalusian district, this magnificent 18th-century palace belongs to a well-known Fassi family at Riad El Ghalia, all the rooms are organized around the central patio (space dedicated to main activities). There are a variety of different room types, each named after ancestors of the family who still own and run it. Each room is en-suite, and other facilities include lounge areas, internet access, and traditional hammam. On our terrace you can appreciate the Fes gastronomy while enjoying a unique view on the whole medina with its uncountable minarets. You can also relax there sipping a drink at any time of the day. Faithful to its culinary tradition, the palace houses a well-known restaurant with a table d'hotes of great finesse serving true Fassi cooking, the most famous of Moroccan cuisines.

This would be a five star hotel and review if the family that owns it had been able to afford top-drawer modern amenities. As it is, they use space heaters, our bathroom had a side saddle toilet, and electric fixtures may need fixing. BUT THE PLACE IS MAGICAL. The antique decor, the from-a-bygone-era service, and the marvelous food combine for an experience worth far more than dollars. This is not for the convenience lover or the querulous. For the rest of us, it is a chance to get as close to the grandeur of yesteryear as one can on an ordinary person's budget.

We stayed in a Riad Couple of doors down from this Riad and came here for dinner. As we looked at the Riad we were happy with our own choice since our Riad was just for us and totally private where as here you could stay in individual rooms. The dinner set up was very nice and the court yard where the dinner was served was spacious and nice. The food was quite good.

I have been at dar El Ghalia one night with my family. The place is in the medina, but not far from one of its entrances, so it is easy to be reached. Its architecture and furniture is beautiful and recalls the palaces of Prince of Persia. The staff is very corteous and helpful. Rooms are a bit small, with scarce light and no wardrope. Bathrooms would need for sure some renovation work.

Thanks to Dar El-Ghalia for making our Morocco experience one of the best out of 20+ travels we had as a couple. This place is elegant, welcoming and beautiful. If you see the rooms are moldy or its a run down place and looking for a 5-star place -- then you should not be in Morocco in the first place. This Riad provides you that experience and if you're that traveller that welcomes that - then stay here! They will try to arrange things for you like tour guide, car for hire to/from airport - but you can be polite and decline if you think you'd be able to do it yourself. They are offering it because they offer. They even have a dinner service (I would not say a "restaurant" because it clearly is just a kitchen in the side) but that is very much appreciated especially if you see yourself unable to go out of the Riad (raid.. tired..) and that's a convenience. but if you'd ask for restaurant recommendations they will even escort you to go there. The alley heading to the Riad is elegant - It cant be any more "Medina" , with kids playing on the alley way (there's a school after the Riad) and shoppers passing by, donkey passing by or its poop on the side. Staying here makes the Morocco experience authentic.

First of all, this guest house is by far a 4-star rated. Almost everything is run down and not looked after properly. It just doesn't feel fresh and clean. They upgraded us to a suite. I found out the toilet seat wasn't properly installed (it slides sideways) and the shower head was broken so the shower head falls off when you run the water, let alone the low water pressure. Also, the paint on the wall was peeling off. The room smells moldy and old. I had to ask them to change the room. Secondly, the location of the guest house is in the middle of the old city (a maze of small alleys). You WILL get lost... many times. If you're into adventure, you'd enjoy it. If not, don't ever try to walk alone after dark. Also, if you're driving, do yourself a favor, DON'T. Last but not least, the staffs do try their best to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. But again, I seriously DO NOT THINK this is a 4-star. I'd say it's more like a 2/2.5-star. Thanks for reading and good luck.
