If you want to get away from the beaches and tourist towns of the Tunisian coast, Matmata is the destination to choose! We came to the Hotel Sidi Driss because we knew that many Star Wars films were actually filmed here, and, yes, that was the ONLY thing we knew before coming. Matmata is on the edge of the Sahara...

Pros: You can sleep overnight in Luke sky walkers house!! Berber food was pretty good to my young palate. Some of the original Star Wars props and decor are still hanging on the walls. Chance to sleep in a real troglodyte house. Cons: Kind of in the middle of nowhere. Middle of desert. You're probably not coming here unless you...

I think you have to be a Star Wars fan to appreciate this place - I am, and I did. We called for lunch and drinks during a two-day tour of Tunisia. Firstly, it is very undeveloped - no Star Wars gift shops; no-one dressed up as the characters from the film; and no razzmatazz. This is an underground, tired...

I didn`t sleep at the hotel, just visited to see with my own eyes, interior . I loved it. Great place to refresh memoires from the movie. On the small monitor movie is presented - love the atmosphere. From outside one can even overlook, but when you finally got there - one could be in heaven

Well I've been, I can tell you it's a load of old crap. First off (when we went) when we arrived there were (no word of a lie) 2, that's 2, smouldering bodies outside our apartment. Further investigation also revealed several smouldering piles of what looked like midgets! God knows what was going on there? We were then taken on...

We visited on a tour but did not stay here. The place stank like putrid chicken, and there was nothing to hold your interest for even 10 minutes. No photos from the film, nothing for the casual fan to even remember the scene from the movie. And boy did it stink! I cannot imagine the misery of an overnight guest.

We visited the Sidi Driss out of curiosity having already accepted a room /cave at the Hotel Marhala (see separate review). We understood that the Sidi Driss was used in the StarWars Movies but not having seen one for about 30 years, the strange faded futuristic props nailed to the walls just looked weird. We wandered in and a man...

We visited Matmata 2 days ago and spent one night at Sidi Driss hotel. We arrived late at night and after a cold walk to the hotel (with a glue-like escort), we were only greeted by grumpy men who have never heard the word "hospitality".. not even remotely. The room rate for BB was 10$ but was not worth a...

A seemingly nondescript outpost at the end of one of the main three roads in town, the Hôtel Sidi Driss is the most popular of the “troglodyte” hotels found in Matmata, thanks to its stellar affiliation with that galaxy “far, far away” (see “sights” above). The hotel consists of five different "pits" that are joined together by underground tunnels and...

It's really interesting to be in a troglodyte hotel and pretty cool to sleep in a jedi room. As some blogs say, it's not the universal studios stuff, it's the real thing. Rooms don't get too cold (we were there in winter and it was freezing cold outside). Despite the sand, they were clean. They are not claustrophobic at all....
