hey guys, think 100 times before booking this guest house, there is no proper management , Every morning there is water crisis, no matter if you get stuck in washroom for more than an hour the hotel staff is least cared about. Infact instead of solving problem they will laugh on your struggles. Rooms are smelly and dirty. In the night cats will keep on jumping on your roof and will make lots of noise. There are many other hotel in addis providing very good service within same budget. Dont get into their trap.
This guesthouse isn't luxurious and needs some renovation but for a night or two it is perfect. not too far from the airport and fairly clean, it is ideal for someone arriving in Ethiopia. There is internet access, though this is slow and intermittent. They also provide an airport pickup at an additional cost, which is good as it means you dont wander aimlessly around. The staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast is very nice. Amazing coffee! Would definately recommend.
I will start with the positive: the staff are lovely and friendly and I am sure they truly try their best. However this guesthouse is a joke for the money they ask for a room. We stayed in Dec 2017 and the rooms were freezing (windows and doors don't close properly, very old conditions), the beds and rooms smelt damp and the showers were malfunctional, spraying water all over the place. I would be ok with all these things if the room as 20$ a night, but they charged us over 60$ a night for one double room (10$ extra for arriving earlier than check-in time) and over 75$ a night for a room with two beds! The breakfast was also quite poor, and of course no functioning wifi. Also, they charged us 15$ for an airport shuttle service that most hotels in Addis offer for free. For a similar price for a room in Addis you can get very confortable, high-end hotels with buffet breakfasts and new, confortable beds. I would definitively not recommend Lucy Guesthouse for your stay in Addis - look for a different place!…
I used Lucy as a base for my 3 week Ethiopian adventure to the south and north , as well as Addis itself. I found both staff and management very helpful/ obliging, WITH NO HARD SELL, a rariety in Africa. As an experienced adventure traveller ( just completed 6 months INDIA OCEAN IN October 17 ) i found Lucy guesthouse relaxing in the hustle / bustle of Addis. Ethiopia ,is the start of another 6 month adventure to MIDDLE EAST / MEDITERRANEAN , thanks LUCY .
Upon the advice of an American friend, I stayed at the Lucy Guest House and I'm so glad that I did. The location is convenient to both the airport (it only took 10 minutes in a very crowded city) and Tomoca Coffee. There are also a number of terrific restaurants, shops, and ATMs within walking distance. The room was modest, but it was very clean. The surroundings felt secure and, despite the proximity to the airport & services, it was quiet at night. Wi-fi was available whenever I was in my room. Most important, the staff were gracious, friendly, and truly hospitable. I will definitely return on my next trip to Addis.
