Once in Kathmandu, a person shall definitely visit Thamel. Thamel is the one stop for all tourists to satisfy their needs; be it shopping, cafes, clubs, shisha lounges etc. Hidden behind the hustling bustling market, we found this perfectly quaint bistro. It is easy to miss if not for the small signboard pointing to this place. Cafe Mitra attracts a...

We stayed for two weeks in room D and found it was great. Gas heating so always have a hot shower. Great quality room for the price and significantly better than other hotels of similar price. Location is great right in thamel but is quiet as its back from the street Good food try the fish or baked cheese. Downsides:...

I found this cafe down an alley way and it was an oasis in the hubble and bubble of Nepalese New Years Eve. The service was excellent and the food was as good as any I've ever r had. I had a salad and roast duck breast and fresh bread with dipping olive oil with basil and garlic. I also...

Thank you for your generous praise. We are a small establishment; and we all try to address the needs of our guests when-what-ever required. The dogs are an integral part of us. Being within Thamel, our guests quickly learn to navigate streets-with-no names or sign boards! We look forward to seeing you again in Nepal.

The food, is great, and the staff are really sweet. There are some dogs at the Cafe, which are the residents, and they are super friendly and easy to get to know. Cafe...

Good place to stay for a few days. Very engaged service and friendly staff. Rooms we had was small and simple. For the location even quiet but had a bit european charme or style with a well kept patio. Prices are therefore maybe on the higher side compared to Kathmandu B+B places

When my girlfriend and I came to Kathmandu for 2 weeks, we only booked a place for the first few nights with the idea being we would visit various places and see what things were actually like, not what they look like online (as anyone traveling these days can attest, the gap between the virtual presence and the actual experience...

Right in the midst of the incessant commotion of the bustling tourist hub of Thamel lies a lovely little courtyard. Tucked away inside this island of tranquility is a splendid restaurant with wonderful rooms to spend the night. A delectable sleep on a soft pristine bed in this little oasis is enhanced by the doting attention of cosmopolitan Kunal, who...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Tucked away in a quiet landscaped garden in the middle of the vibrant madness of Thamel, Kathmandu's tourist epicentre, Cafe Mitra has confidently assumed the mantle of one of Nepal's most innovative restaurants along with 4 clean and quiet guest rooms with en suite bathrooms with plenty of hot & cold water, ample garden and terrace space. The rooms are a clever combination of colourful Asia anchored by the sophistication of Europe. The cafe, headed by the owner educated in hotel management in Switzerland, and the kitchen and its team trained by a local chef trained in London & New York. Renowned for blending the best of East with the best of West, the cafe is popular with local and foreign residents, as well as with visitors in search of a cuisine which is excitingly foreign yet not too exotic. Cafe Mitra is an unexpected oasis which the modern day discerning travellers have appreciated greatly. And we hope they will continue to do. We are only minutes away from the historical treasures of Kathmandu, such as the Kathmandu Durbar where Kumari, the Living Goddess, resides. You can walk to it via the bustling local market place known as Ason Tole. Swoyambhunath Stupa, aka Monkey Temple, is an easy 30 mins' walk away. The Garden of Dreams is just around the corner, and the Narayanhiti Palace museum, the former residence of the Kings of Nepal, is another easy 10 mins walk away. At first glance, Thamel can seem chaotic, and it is, no doubt. However, the fact that this small centre in the heart of Kathmandu has all the amenities to ensure that visitors can are never far from services they require, such as travel and trekking agencies; supermarkets just in case you forgot to bring your toothbrush, or your anti-allergy pills, or your down jacket! It is easy to get your money out from ATMs; shop for souvenirs; and send them home via air cargo. So, buy your ticket, hop into the aeroplane, and allow us to introduce you to Nepal and its unique hospitality and charms! BREAKING NEWS! We are in the midst of adding 4 more guest rooms, by January 2015, taking the total count of rooms to 8. We look forward to hosting travellers from around the World! ... more   less
