This hotel was a very good hotel. Made so by the friendly staff and helpful manager. They made us feel at home for the full week we stayed with them. I highly recommend the Hotel Excelsior to you. I stay in many hotels all around the world. This hotel is run by a super friendly staff and a staff who... More

Stayed for 2 nights in the new wing of this large city centre hotel, which was preferable to the older, outdated and very smelly adjacent hotel. Wonderful staff. Comfortable rooms with limited views due to location. Roof terrace is lovely for dining. Good selection of shops, ATM and supermarket beside hotel. Avoid the in house Spa for any manicures as the... Well we are a little confused when you say the "adjacent hotel", anyway we are happy you had a comfortable stay. we would like to know which in house spa was recommended to you, very important for us to know, so that such similar mistakes are not made in the future. Actually these are not in house spas and if... More

More then 40 times I visited Nepal for trekking, climbing and my schoolproject in the valley. I stayed in several hotels in Kathmandu and elsewhere in Nepal in all those years, so I think I am able to compare accomodations. In 1993 Hotel Excelsior was recommended by a colleague Tourleader of the Royal Dutch Alpine Club and I decided to... More

In Katmandu it is hard to find a good hotel that doesn't cost a whole lot. Hotel Excelsior is pretty good but shabby. It is such a large building that is really cold. The bed are awful. In the middle of the night it felt like the bed turned to ice. The shower is hot sometimes. Try to choose a... More

There is noise from the bar. In my previous review I suggested asking for rooms on the front side of the hotel. This takes care of the noise. I make my reservation directly with The Excelsior. The price is always competitive. The Kathmandu Guest House does not exude the warmth and care like Excelsior. My daughter has stayed at both... More

Stayed here on my first night in Kathmandu in the extension building, the bathroom was dirty and the flush didn't work also you get loud music from neighbouring bars until quite late into the night, so if you have jet lag it's not great for sleep. I moved to a different hotel the second night out of sleep desperation. The... More

We are extremely sorry you could not sleep, the noise from the surrounding has been a problem for many in Thamel, but we are working on it and hopefully the bars that operate late nights will have sound proofing. More

We arrived here after two weeks in rural India, so the accommodations seemed elegant, with soft beds, real showers with bathtubs and towels and toilet paper. The staff is helpful and kind. You can hang out in the lobby in comfortable couches and take advantage of the library. Our breakfast was adequate-eggs, oatmeal, cold cereal and breads. I did not... More

Stayed here for a week because of a recommendation. Appliances are old and the walls in the room were really dirty. Bathroom could use some renovation as well. Breakfast was just okay and in Kathmandu pace. Location is goo, in the heart of Thamel, but also surrounded by about 3 bars with loud music until bout 2 am every day... More

Noise continued till 3am from traffic, roller shutters, drunks shouting from the street, loud music etc. Obviously it is not a place to chill and have a good night sleep after a week of hard work at the far west Nepal! Roof top garden under repair and service not reflective of the usual Nepali warmth!
