We stayed in this place 7years ago and really liked it, especially the breakfast. We came back, mainly to spend some holiday inn points and to see if we would like it again. It's not a bad place but you can find a much better newer hotel in Bangkok for the same price. Rooms are a bit worn out, location...

• Holiday Inn Silom, yes. We just came back from a jungle part at the Kwai and I said wow to my wife when we arrived at the Hiliday Inn Silom. Great lobby, all impressive. Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.

Hello there :) . There are two places that may be of interest. The first is right next door to the hotel...come out of the hotel and turn right ( away from the river as if you are heading towards Lumpini Park ). That place is a five minute walk at the very most. But for the place that you seek, come out of the hotel and turn left as if you are heading in the direction of the Lebua Tower and river. When you walk under the flyover you need to turn right and the Gems Tower is along there on the left hand side of the road. If you have been to Bangkok before, please excuse me for telling you what you already know but Taxis are cheap and always ask for a METER to be switched on. ( It is the law in Bangkok! ). The hotel chaps who man the main entrance of the hotel will be happy to oblige you with a meter taxi which will come up the ramp to pick you up, thus avoiding any of the touts that lurk at the bottom of the ramp. ( The touts are generally ok by the way ). It IS walking distance..even if you take a very slow walk, my guestimate would be around 15, perhaps 20 minutes. But in spite of Bangkok being our favourite city, it is very hot and humid so perhaps a taxi ( at least on the outward journey ) would be best. Some of the taxi drivers may give you a quote off of the meter once you are in the cab. This will always be more that the meter price, so if they do this then a polite but firm 'Meter please' will suffice. Have stayed at the holiday Inn Silom many times. We are back in Bangkok in September too but ironically are not staying at this great hotel this time, only because we fancied a change. I will sign off now. Hope this has been helpful. I think 'War and Peace' is shorter than my answer. Hope you have a wonderful and successful trip. Best regards, Electric Warrior ( but a little unplugged nowadays !!! )

Some small local supermarkets, many of which sell health foods are within walking distance. The food at this hotel is very healthy too. A large shopping mall for food is a short trip in skytrain, the hotel reception will give you details . Hope you enjoy your holiday
