There are many concepts of hospitality nowadays - business hotels, couples hotels, family hotels - you name them. But the chore is the same. A guest should be comfortable, safe, valued. The stay should flow seamlessly. The premises should be clean and pleasant. Sound easy? It is not. Add to it a central yet quiet location, superb services, excellent food, staff other hotels can only dream of - and you get only one hotel I have met in my no few travels that ticks all the boxes - the Bangkok Peninsula. The experience starts even before you set foot in it - efficient and sympathetic booking dep't and the concierge desk which helps with reservations long before your stay. Then that ideal concept - Peninsula time, flexible check in and check out times, which were a blessing with our crazy flight times. The welcome flower bracelet. And the room, opulent, spacious, silent and pampering with a beautiful view over the river. Excellent breakfast, afternoon tea and buffet dinner. And the staff, everyone, who just want you, whoever you are, to feel well. A huge praise to the establishment which seems to have cracked the secret of true hospitality.

Hotel's Favourite
Wow! Wow! Wow! This hotel wins the “best overall” category for us! We travel to Bangkok 2-3 times a year but have never stayed “over the river” so this was an adventure for us. Our accomodation was superb with a beautiful old world charm. The housekeeping staff were almost invisible and laundry was done on an immediate turnaround! The Peninsula has one of the most comprehensive breakfast buffets I’ve ever seen! Healthy options. Juice options. Vegan options. American style etc etc. Fitness options include a 25m (at least) pool to swim plus three other adjoining pools. Well equiped gym including pilates reformer. Steam room, Sauna, Hot Spa and Ice Bath plus a plethora of little extras - cleansers, toners etc. Finish your fitness regime in one of the most beautiful day spas I have ever seen! The options available are so indulgent. We travelled as a couple - no kids. In fact we saw few children other than some early teens. It probably wouldn’t be my choice if I had children, the hotel seems to suit an older clientele. (Only my opinion!) Treat yourself to a dinner at the hotels Thai restaurant and indulge in their afternoon tea on the terrace. This hotel really spoils you!

I’ve been staying at this hotel for 12 years and it never ever misses a beat. I came from Bali and felt more in paradise at The Peninsula Bangkok. The staff genuinely there to satisfy their guests and attain to their needs. I’ve been to many hotels and this is the only property where they really care about their guests. The pool is amazing and Chu and his team do an amazing job with their service. I can sit a the pool all day . The room has The Best views of the river . Unbeatable!!! I wouldn’t stay at The Mandarin Oriental or The Four Seasons if they gave it to me for free. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from Iconsiam which is one of the best shopping malls in all of Asia . You can take The Peninsula boat the runs every 30 minutes also. Ann is The Best Concierge ! She does an amazing job ensuring a wonderful stay and arrangements . The breakfast buffet is to Die For! I always look forward to my next stay

Dear kreuzbauer62, Thank you for staying with us, we are glad that you have enjoyed your stay. We were overwhelmed to read your positive feedback on breakfast and room condition; however, we were happy that the cleanliness was perfect. The prime location by the river and close to Iconsiam Shopping mall where you can get there by walk or hotel boat. Our hotel is the paradise for the guests who love wellness and exercise activities and we have health club facilities to provide for our guest as a complimentary basis. We are looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Sincerely, Pongsathorn Prasongjaroen Director of Rooms

Beautiful hotel. Cannot praise the staff enough. Check in smooth & fresh fruit and tea delivered to my room. Wonderful sized room and all the types of things that help enjoy a trip, large desk and windows over looking the river, electric blinds and remote controls for most of the room. Bed was large but possibly on the hard side. Very clean and loved a bath plus a shower. The communal areas clean and the pool area lovely just limited to seats and being in the shade a lot: The conference centre well run and organised. Great gym with a lovely guy who would hand water and towels. He seemed to stretch some people but perhaps they were having PT. My only down side to this hotel was the food. I am a vegetarian and there were very limited options for me. The options that were available were spicy so I didn’t eat a great deal. The location is good 2 mins walk is a big shopping mall they also offer river boats to different destinations. I would recommend going outside the hotel to eat in the local restraints the food was amazing. The massages outside were also 1/4 of the price can’t comment on quality as the hotel spa was fully booked when I visited. Over all would recommend and if I went back would ask if they could cater for me specially. Staff excellent throughout the property.

Dear Ms. Sarah O, Thank you for your time to share your stay experience, we are overwhelmed to learn that you had enjoyed your stay and impressed since arrival, you were welcomed by our guest service staff and served welcome tea upon check in. Our room is well equipped with high quality of furniture, classic luxury design, and offers with stunning view of Chaophraya River. We are happy that you have enjoyed the relaxing time by the pool and fitness center. We have taken your comment regarding limited vegetarian options, and we will improve our food options in the future, but we are still glad that our food was amazing for you. The hotel location is great as it is close to Iconsiam Shopping Mall and Sky train station where you can take a walk or taking a complimentary shuttle boat whole day. We hope The Peninsula Bangkok will be included in your itinerary next visit. Sincerely, Pongsathorn Prasongjaroen Director of Rooms

I am breaking this into sections to give a fully detailed, honest and useful review of the Peninsula Bangkok. I list the positive and the negative. I consider myself an educated consumer of global travel, and this property is very famous, considered a top 5 in Bangkok with 5 Forbes stars (they are worthy of their stars). So I am going to get incredibly detailed in my review. Hopefully guests and Peninsula employees will find it useful. To management, feel free to share this with Sir Michael Kadoorie, Clement King Man Kwok, Peter Camille Borer and Andrew Clifford Winawer Brandler. Forgive my robotic and limited creativity in my use of language in written word, but I want my review to be as accessible and comprehendible to all types of travelers from all corners of the earth. Overall my stay was great! This was my first trip to a Peninsula property, Bangkok and Thailand overall (I tend to more frequent the Four Seasons). I would consider coming back, our stay was very enjoyable. There were some hiccups, but they were mostly resolved. And a special shout out to Stella, the assistant manager who professionally resolved the issues we had. Stella deserves a promotion, I hope the brand takes good care of her, as they are lucky to have her on staff. Location: 4.5 star: The property is located on the west side of the Chao Phraya River, a bit of a ways from the city center, however minutes away from the Icon Siam shopping mall. You are not close by any means to the MRT or skytrain, but the resort has a boat that can take you across the river to the skytrain; that boat runs every 30 minutes. You really need to be strategic about getting around given how bad the traffic in Bangkok can get. If the property was on the east side of the river I would have given the location 5 stars. Check in: 4.5 star: This was a memorable hotel check in. My wife and I were here for the second leg our honeymoon across Southeast Asia, and had just gotten off a 2.5 hour flight from Singapore. We arrived to the airport around 5:30pm on a Saturday afternoon (1/13). We booked the long stay package that included roundtrip transportation from and to the airport. Upon arrival to the pick up area at the airport, a peninsula rep was ready for us, took care of our bags, and whisked us away to a clean and spacious BMW 7 series sedan where we met our driver. In the car we were provided with water and cool refreshing towels, and had direct access to the climate control for the vehicle. That was nice. The driver was super friendly, I wish I remembered his name. When we arrived at the hotel we were kindly greeted by a team of bellman and a hotel rep who escorted us directly to our room, and checked us in, in the room without having to go to the lobby! That was a first for me and I thought that felt VIP....However I knocked down the check in process by .5 star since one of the bellman made negative comments towards my wife's luggage, and the hotel check in rep tried selling us on upgrading our room for a fee while in the elevator on the way to our original room. In a 5 star hotel, I feel upgrades should only be offered at check in before seeing the original room if the upgrade is complimentary/a kind gesture of the hotel....This part of the check in process also left a bad taste later as we had issues with the original room, I will get to that. They also incorrectly took down my credit card number at check in, and had to come back upstairs a second time to resolve that which was frustrating as we were trying to unwind after a long day of travel. On a positive note, when we got to the room they had a welcome sign for our honeymoon, a small chocolate cake, and welcome fruits ready for us. That was really nice. The Room(s)/service: 4.5-5 star: For most of my reviews I separate these categories, but given the details of this past stay, I lump them together as they went hand and hand. We booked the most basic, resort room (Deluxe King) for our stay. It was large and spacious, with a dressing/luggage area, large bathroom with soaking tub, double vanity sinks, shower and closed off toilet area. The room is furnished with a comfy sofa, wooden desk, office chair, several phones, electronic curtains, robes, and an electronic control panel that can be used to control lighting, climate, curtains and television. The bed is large but a bit on the harder side. Still very comfy. The main issues we had with our room was that it did feel a tad dated, the AC was not consistent, the shower temp was not get hot enough, and the shower leaked significantly into the bathroom every time after use. I reported this to Stella the assistant manager, and within minutes she had engineering come to address this. The temperature issue was resolved right away, however they did not fix the leak properly. I found this out the hard way after my next shower when my socks got soaked after walking back in the door. After reporting this a second time, Stella promptly went upstairs herself to personally inspect the matter while we were at breakfast. Upon returning later in the day to the room we saw a card instructing us to call management; to which we were informed they could not fix the leak but were upgrading us to a deluxe suite for the remainder of the stay. This was a nice gesture, but I wish they had called me on the phone to notify since we didn't return to the room until later in the day. This had interfered with our spa booking. However they made that up to us by providing additional complementary spa treatments. The upgraded suite was super nice, with panoramic views of the river. Also had additional storage space for clothing, and 2 different types of robes for us to each wear (Thai robes, and Western style robes). The upgraded suite also had an additional fridge, larger safe, powder room, separate living space and additional television. The sound on the television in the living space wasn't working. The room was spotless and beautiful, though like the first room, slightly dated. I must also mention that the housekeeping staff assisted in our room transfer by kindly packing most of our belongings, and bringing them/unpacking them in the new room. That touch provided piece of mind and added comfort, a special service only offered at special properties. Service made up for everything where the hardware lacked. All of the bell, housekeeping, lobby, restaurant, spa, conceirge and activity staff were super professional, quick and proactive. The assistant manager Stella ensured everything was in order after switching us to the new room. Stella deserves a promotion. The only area where service needs improvement is the pool. The pool service was terribly slow, had to ask multiple times for the bill on multiple occasions, and staff were more reactive rather than proactive. At renown properties, all service should be held to a consistent level of accountability across guest accesible spaces. This was not the case at the pool. But even so, the pool staff were all still friendly, no mistakes were made. Spa: 5 star: We booked Thai massages, included with our long stay package, and received one complimentary due to the issue with our first room. The spa was immaculately clean, with a friendly and proactive reception staff. The hot tub, steam room and sauna were also very clean. The massages themselves were also 5 star, fantastic services. Probably is the best spa in Bangkok. After completion of the massage, there is a lovely relaxation area with great views of the pool and river. Very relaxing. The massages are held in private rooms, also super clean and spacious. 0 complaints about the spa, keep up the great work! Activities : 5 star. The peninsula hosts a variety of activities daily through their fitness and spa staff. I participated in an introductory Muay Thai session and it was incredible! I wish I remembered the instructors name. High energy, with a limited number of participants to ensure quality. I also hit for an hour with their local tennis pro Bahn. Bahn was super friendly and a great player too, keep up the great work! Food/Beverage taste/variety: Delicious, plenty of variety, 4.5 star. The Peninsula boasts several restaurants, consisting of Thai, Chinese and international cuisines. We ate at both the River Cafe (International, main guest dining venue for the hotel) and Mei Jiang the Chinese restaurant given a nod by the Michelin guide. Coming from New York I am accustomed to eating great Chinese food, particularly of cantonese/Hong Kong, Shanghainese and Chengdu styles of preparation. Mei Jiang falls under the Cantonese category, and served amazing food!! Some of the best cantonese food I ever had in my life, only thing was the portions seemed a bit small. But that doesn't mean much coming from me since I am an American, and I know we over do it with portion sizing back in the United States... The breakfast Buffett spread at the River Cafe was also top notch, including endless options of western and Asian breakfast fare (including cook to order dim sum and eggs!). The only reason I knock the food down .5 star is because the options at their Asian dinner Buffett held on Wednesday evenings had an underwhelming selection of food to choose from what I would expect at such a grand property. Gym/tennis court: 4.5 star, open late, well kept, great variety of equipment. Also super clean, and filled with attendants through 11pm at night. They will provide you with complimentary stretching when you request, and do a great job keeping the equipment safe, in order and clean. I only knock it down .5 star since it is small and tends to get overcrowded. The tennis court was located next to an area of the hotel under construction, so it would be unfair to judge it's appearance for my stay. Overall: 5 stars. Given the minor pitfalls I listed, the pros far outweigh the cons at the Peninsula. I would not go exclusively with this property every time I travel to Bangkok, but I would certainly return if I can find a competitive rate when booking against the Four Seasons, and Mandarin Oriental. I hold brands like The Peninsula, FS, Mandarin and so on to the highest standard in cities like Bangkok given how competitive the hotel market is there. What the top tier brands charge is well above the price of other 5 star properties, as they should. There is 5 star and then there is 5 STAR. The Peninsula meets the standard of 5 STAR, and can be even that much more exceptional with minor room refurbishments, more options at the dinner buffet, and better training the pool staff. Those areas are not deal breakers for me, and to anyone reading this review, know that I dwell on these negatives for useful constructive feed back. THE PROS OF THIS RESORT FAR OUTWEIGH THE CONS, please don't hesitate to book this property if you have yet to visit. Yours Truly, M. Glaser

A great experience from check-in to check-out and everything in between. The service, facilities and dining are all first rate. We came on the tail-end of a 2 and 1/2 week trip to Indochina and had one day in Bangkok to relax before our flight home to the States. The Peninsula was a terrific choice. We were upgraded to large river facing rooms and the hotel was extremely flexible about providing late checkout even beyond our 4 pm Amex guarantee. We enjoyed an amazing buffet dinner and breakfast at the hotel's riverfront restaurant. The hotel gym is great and the attendant even offered to help with stretching exercises after my workout. The pool is lovely with attendants helping with umbrellas and providing ice water. This is a perfect place to relax and unwind either at the beginning or end of a trip. Thank you Peninsula!

We were taking a Viking river cruise on the Mekong and this hotel was included in the pre-trip. What a lovely surprise! We stayed on the valet floor. We had excellent service and our needs met at every whim. They set up a fresh fruit everyday in our room. It was lovely, dragon fruit, grapes, mango, etc. The spa was amazing. We enjoyed the services provided. Great masseuses and options. The restaurants were delicious and the river boats were fun. We were located on the River and had an amazing time cruising everywhere with the complimentary Sampan boat! The service was excellent. Location was prime. We highly recommend this hotel

Likes Great location. Sitting on Mei Kong River and close to ICON Siam. Boat service to and from ICON Siam. Great view of the Mei Kong River. Very efficient staff. They get things done fast. Great SPA and massage service. Could be better The toilet seat is old and not secured properly. It makes noise every time you get up. Could not even plug in the power cord into the power plug for shaver. Lack of power plugs in the room especially USB plugs. The one that is hidden in the drawer is outdated and one can easily forgot their devices are plugged in inside the drawer.
