Except for the late check-in, everything was fine. Even after checking out, they provided me with free concierge service. The restaurant is good, and the ambiance is pleasant. I liked the spacious room. There are excellent swimming pools. The neighborhood is good and there is easy access to public transportation.

My wife, who is Thai, and I (both from the USA) are long-term guests of Grand President and its sister hotels, having visited the KGH Hotel Group hotels for over 25 years with stays of 2 weeks to 3+ months at a time, with average visits per year totaling 6 months. Our last visit was in February - March 2020, but cut short by the COVID-19 crisis! We have visited many of the hotels throughout Thailand, particularly in Bangkok. You will not find friendlier staff and willingness to accommodate guests than Grand President and its sister hotels offer. Management and staff go the extra mile to welcome guests and respond positively to guest requests and concerns. Although the hotel is an older gem (currently being renovated), it offers an excellent location in the heart of the shopping and entertainment district on famous Soi 11 with easy access to the Skytrain and Subway, enabling guests to move throughout Bangkok with ease. The staff is well-trained, courteous, attentive and always responds to guests with a positive "can do" attitude. In particular, we have been very impressed with Front Office management -- Suebsakul ("Simon") Phimphong, Nantana ("A") Pipatchaipibool and "June", all of whom have been exceptionally kind, attentive and accommodative during each of our visits every year. The rooms are spacious and clean, with generous kitchen and bathroom facilities, offering great value for the money. The only reason we could not give our favorite hotel in Bangkok a 5-star rating is because the Grand President definitely needs an upgrade to its fitness center in Tower 2, which we understand is being done now. Once this upgrade is accomplished with professional quality equipment, we will change our rating to 5-star. Bottom line -- you cannot go wrong staying at the Grand President!

Stayed here before on Honeymoon back in 2005 and the hotel was much better then. It's tired now. Room - we asked for inter-connecting rooms, which we were provided with. One of the rooms included a kitchen and was a free upgrade which was nice. Superficially, the rooms look nice, but they're a bit old, and 4 lights were dead between both rooms. Modern looking bathrooms looked good, but shower water temperature wasn't stable and showering young children were at risk of scalding. One big plus of the room was the beds - really comfy. Pools - These were both good deep pools, but both (especially Tower 1) had sharp spots where tiles had come away, or tile edging had broken meaning a lot of care had to be taken. Again, just super tired and need of a refurb. Food - In a word - abysmal. The worst breakfast I've ever had in any hotel, ever. Selection was incredibly poor and limited. Cooked food was cold. Can't comment on room services/other meals as didn't dare try any after the poor experience at breakfast. I remember their breakfast from honeymoon days and it was really decent. To be fair, we were in a (pretty nasty) temporary dining room but I don't see why this had to affect breakfast quality/choice so much. Service - Not great. When it was hammering down outside I asked about the free shuttle service to the local mall (Terminal 21) to meet my partner there. This service is clearly advertised on their website. This was met with the suggestion that is was only a 10 minute walk (when it rains in Bangkok, it really rains). Rather than a free shuttle, I ended up with the loan of an umbrella... Random - the lifts in the tall towers aren't enough. They're small and at peak times (like breakfast) it can take 10 minutes or longer to get to the floor. The Coronavirus means the hotel doesn't appear to be very full at all. Hate to think what the lift queues are like if the hotel ever gets near full. Value-wise it's ok, but there are far, far better options out there. For example, we also stayed in the budget Ibis Styles in Phra Khanong, which was about 40% cheaper and although a 3* vs this supposed 4* was far, far better (with incredibly friendly, helpful staff). In short, won't be back again.

I have been to the Far East many times, but , this hotel is without doubt the worst I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. Dirty, rooms smell of damp. Staff are unable to communicate in English, yes I realise I am thousands of miles from home but the majority of tourists speak English. Air conditioning that is either freezing or red hot. No hot water in the taps. Electronic keys that simply do not work, continually having to have them changed at reception. 1000 baht deposit for 2 key cards that they only refund in 2 weeks, their words not mine. Upgrade was offered and kindly accepted, only to discover on check in that they had cancelled my late check out, told I can have it back for 1000 baht, when asked to speak to a manager informed there are non, at that point the manager arrives ! Staff speak Thai when talking about you when you make a complaint then try and answer you in English! Lifts to 21 floors that go where ever they seem to like , if the room key fails you can go up and down until you are fortunate enough to reach your floor. I have stayed in £7 a night guest houses that provide a better service this place. Room was flooded on the second morning, informed reception of the issue , answer was an engineer will be sent when free, I explained the room was flooded, amazingly the receptionist lost the use of the English language and couldn’t reply. 2 hours later after being told to move rooms , engineer fixes the issue then tells me I have to move back, in 2 nights I had 4 rooms as the first rooms air conditioning did not work. Avoid at all costs.
