By Rick's wife: Riva Surya was a very nice hotel, room on the river (high floor, elevator). Staff (particularly concierge/reception people extremely helpful, more than any other place we were in Thailand. As a person who always uses at least one crutch, moves slowly, and has poor balance, I found it a problem that various places there were no railings--three steps without them or anything else to hold onto when entering the lobby. I found a sort of circuitous way to get to the pool (where there was a ladder but no stairs) on my own. There were almost always people to help but I like to be independent whenever possible. By the way the lack of railings is endemic in Thailand (and lots of other places). The attitude everywhere seems to be that one-five steps requires no railing.

Fantastic hotel
This hotel is lovely. Our room faced the river with a balcony. This was a transit stay for two nights but we wished we could have stayed longer. Fantastic room but the bar and pool area weer amazing too. Great location convenient for everything you could want for a short stay in Bangkok. Highly recommended.

Arriving at then hotel can be a bit of a let down as the driveway, planting, facade and the entrance lobby is very unimpressive. The lobby is open to the driveway and not well designed. A bit tacky. The check in staff however are friendly. Appearances improve once you're out of the lobby and in your room. The rooms are well appointed and functional. The corridors though could do with a bit of a clean up and some attention from housekeeping. The terrace overlooking the river is great, its really one of the nicest places to have breakfast- watching the boats on the river. This is the best part of the hotel. There is a tiny swimming pool in the middle of the terrace which seems very exposed and not very inviting. We had breakfast on the terrace , food was good, again charming service and waitstaff. If you're using the river boats and ferries to get about, the hotel is very close to a pier which is also great. Not sure if I'd stay here again. All in all if you're looking for a small well priced hotel on the river this could be an option. …

Very average rather noisy hotel
We had been told it was relaxing to be on the river, but on arrival I was shocked by the noise level. The river is more like a water highway, coupled with the blasting music from the hotel’s bar, it was definitely not my type of place. We moved out after one night.

Visiting the great city of Bangkok, I choose again the Riva Surya for many reasons. In the centrer but quiet. (Not the madness of Sukhumvit) Fantastic rooms and vue on the river. Friendly area with live music (real performance) Great swimming pool Most charming people working there

This hotel has charged me £175 when I booked to “test” my card is real. They didn’t tell me or warn me of this. I’m waiting for refund. Has anyone else found this? It’s a bit dodgy...?
I booked through Hotels com and didn't have a problem. Sorry to hear you had a problem. Good choice of hotel though.

Hi! I was wondering how much does the water taxi cost in front of the hotel and until what time is open? Also, is it a good alternative instead of taking a taxi to get closer to farther areas like RCA, Sky Bars and night market Rot Fai considering the traffic?
Hi im no sure about a river taxi but the River boats are cheap and go everywhere. You just walk along the river front and there is a major boat stop by the closest bridge. There are destination stops for each boat dependent on the colour flag they fly. All the info is in English. If you get off at the Royal palace or the stop after there is a Sky Train station very close.

Looks like breakfast is not included in reservations. Is it worth it? Or are there options just outside the hotel in case I don’t want to avail of their breakfast? Thanks.
The breakfast was not included for our stay, but was very reasonably priced and was full of options to suit every pallet. I believe breakfast was 300 baht per person, which exchanges to about $9.50US. Additionally, there are plenty of options for good food just across the street and around the corner into the street market. “Peeps” is excellent for lunch and dinner and is right across from the Riva. Also, the “Like Italy” bakery across the street has amazing baked goods for breakfast that will go great with your Thai coffee. You will not have any trouble finding good food in Bangkok.

May I Know The traffic which is I better way to take?The hotel will provide any ferry service on the front pier? Or how far the distance nears the BTS station to the hotel?Thank you .
The best way to avoid traffic and enjoy the city is to take the public ferry just in front the hotel Its clean and you can enjoy great views

are there any day spas near Riva Surya? After almost 24 hours of travel, I'd like to get a massage/beauty treatment. Thanks!
Hi. I can recommend the hotel Thai massage - we thought they were great and so welcome after a long flight. Don't know about any beauty treatment, but ask at reception - they are very helpful and perhaps they will be able to direct you to somewhere close by. Enjoy the hotel and your stay in Bangkok.
