This place could be great if the staff was friendly. The rooms are very basic and good value for the money you are spending. However, it is very clear that the staff does not care about you. The daytime staff is a bit better than the 2 very unfriendly guys who work night shift. The rooms are fairly clean and...

Stayed there 7 nights, and all was fine more or less, except the few times we had to deal with the staff... You really feel like you deal with idiots that don't give a s*** about you. Too bad for what could be a good place to stay. Bed was big and comfortable, shower working good enough, aircond, fan ,...

This is one of many Guest Houses along the road behind the Wat and KSan road. I sometimes stay at other places but they were full so I tried this place. Overall I am very happy with the room, stayed here 4 nights. I got a single with bath (non-air con) that has hot and cold shower for 280B a...

I stayed in a double non aircon room with a friend. Up on the sixth floor. The climb was a little tiring but it was worth it for the price. My only quibble is that the room was rather stuffy and there was no window opening out. On the whole 180bhat for a double room so close to Khao San...

Merry V Guesthouse (Found on the backside of Rambutri, not on Phra Athit) is a clean and basic room kind of place. For 170B and no key deposit a single bed in a small room with light and fan is offered. Extras (but not always) include a wall hook for a towel, a rubbish bin, and a small stand. If...

The stile of the rooms is like the changing cabines in a cheap public bath: Cleanish, cold and small. But the price - value is ok. The staff is mostly friendly and it is not to noisy. They also sell wifi Internet access at a ok price.

New Merry V is very basic and you get what you pay for. It's the perfect place if you're just stopping by Bangkok. I stayed in a single room with fan and shared bathroom for 160 baht. You won't get cheaper than this in the Khao San area, I saw 150 for a dorm room. It may be basic and...

Stayed 3 times now. One of the cheapest and in a god location. Close but enough distance from Kao san that there is no noise or soliciting too close. The rooms are basic and clean, the shower is hot if that is what you pay for, the internet and cafe downstairs in convenient. No complaints really. I think we paid...

Ok in a pinch but do a little research before you go to Bangkok and you can find much better options. The rooms are dirty and decayed and the whole place could use a makeover. It is cheap which is good and is tolerable for a night or two. Good location and is a short stumble from the bars.

The New Merry V Guesthouse is actually really well situated but I think it is the only very good thing about it. It is close enough to Khoa San Road but far enough to avoid the noise and drunk people in the street. Also, the place is really cheap;160 baht for a single room with shared bathroom. However, for so...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
