Detailed Reviews
I spent one and a half month at the Vanilla and I liked it very much! Both staff and management are looking for you to have the best possible holidays. They try all they can in fact. Prin run the place with flair, and professionalism. He is an avid cyclist and the residence is designed to accommodate all cyclist need.... and all inclusive in the reasonable price asked: 100% safe bicycle park (no need to locked your expensive bike, since there is a 24 hours/7days security person looking mainly to secure the place and your bicycle), a work spot with stand and all the tool, also a cleaning/hose station. Rooms are perfect, large (more than 30 sqm), drinking water is even included. If I had to think about a weak point, I'd say that it is a little noisy, but all in all, not disturbing indeed. I'm hoping on going back for 2 months this coming december, I enjoy the cycling spot like none, or almost: best weather, smooth thai rural roads, climbs, flat, rolling, scenery, elephants, temples, you got it all. Social group rides almost everyday found on FB or else often directly from Vanilla. Well located, near the Dot Suttep, near the cycling path that takes you to Samoeg or the northern remote back road, yet close to the city for shopping and eating..... Miss Vanilla so much already..... Thank you and see you soon!

If you are in CM on a road cycling holiday stay here! Great set up for cyclists - secure storage area, bike wash facilities, tools, advice on routes, right side of town for the hills.
Rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. There’s hot water, wifi, air con that works, washing machines (20THB). What more do you need?

Good for cyclists but experience spoiled by negative customer service experience. I had already stayed for ten days at a cost of 10,000 baht. I went to reception to tell them I wanted to stay for another week and rent a colnago bicycle for the week too. They informed me that I had to pay 200 bahtfor a dirty towel. The towel had some muck on it but would easily wash off with some hot water. I said I would pay the 200 baht but I would never stay there again. The manager woman said, that was ok. So I paid the 200 baht for the towel and they lost out on 12,000 baht for the next week.( room + rent for colnago bike). They also lost out on a repeat customer who plans to come back to Chiang Mai for at least two more cycling holidays this year. I would like the owner to see this review as I cyclist, I really like the concept of the hotel.

The reception is very warm and welcoming. I stayed 4 nights in one of the rooms overlooking Doi Suthep - Pui National Park.
The room is very spacious and well decorated with calm and neutral tones including fresh flowers. Lots of storage to hang and store clothes, a fridge and small kitchen also available.
Good size bathroom including a few essentials such as shower cap, shower gel, shampoo and cotton buds, the shower has hot water 24hours a day and a clean curtain so the bathroom stays dry.
As a woman travelling on my own, this hotel is a little heaven of peace with a homely feel and extremely clean throughout. It is located in a safe area only 5 minutes from Maya shopping centre and 10 minutes from the Old city centre in taxi or tuktuk which reception will order whenever you need.
Wifi is free and available in every room and reception area.
this hotel is managed by a young couple who speaks English fluently and is very knowledgeable about the area. I booked through the hotel a 3-day Jungle trek which i highly recommend and a 1-day cooking class. Massage and other activities can also be booked through them.
For all these reasons I would like to recommend Vanilla Residence!

For who wants to avoid the foreign tourist area's a little bit and wants to discover the real Chiang Mai life this is the perfect place. The rooms are brand new, spacious, bright, clean, and very reasonably priced. It has the privacy and comfort of a hotel but, because of the polite and welcoming staff and the cosy entrance/lobby, the atmosphere of the better guesthouse. It's located just out of city center, 5 minute walk from niman road, close to seven/eleven and other conveniences. It has a private garage with a very nice (and funny) parking assistant. Complimentary fresh grained coffee is always ready in the lobby. Perfect after a day of cycling through Chiang Mai on one of the the free-of-charge-borrow-bicycles!
I'll definitely come back here!

This is a new building with modern, minimalist, clean, white rooms that I liked quite a lot. The deluxe room had a balcony and a working desk. There is lots of construction going on in the area, and it was quite noisy at times.
The decent size fridge was empty, except for water, and there was a microwave but not much in terms of plates, utensils and so forth. Surprisingly there was no safety box at all. TV channels seemed to be Thai only.
There is a 7-Eleven nearby, and some restaurants and local shops. The big Maya shopping centre and also the Central department store are one kilometre away down the Superhighway. However this hotel is quite far from city centre and Chiang Mai’s main attractions, so this is not necessarily the best place for an occasional tourist, but for someone staying longer or otherwise avoiding the tourist areas.
Most tuk-tuk drivers seemed to have no clue where the place is, even after seeing the address card, and it may be difficult to find transport when going somewhere. Google Maps proved helpful even though it suggests an unnecessarily complicated route.
There was no breakfast available, but apparently they have free coffee in the lobby. Views of the construction site next door were less than spectacular, but the mountain is still nice to see. Staff very friendly and helpful.
I might seriously consider staying here for a few weeks (especially if they had a swimming pool which they don't), but for a quick Chiang Mai trip there are probably better places.

Clean, modern and affordable. This hotel was very new when we stayed in it (only about a month old). It is only a short Tuk Tuk ride from town and it's only a short walk from several food outlets and a 7-11. If I return to Chiang Mai I will definitely stay here again.

Very simple, but clean facility. We felt that the staff did a nice job keeping things clean for the week we stayed there. Beds were fairly decent too. Plenty of storage and plugs for electronics. Water provided every day.

I decided to stay at this hotel because it seemed cyclist friendly and on the side of the city going out to the Mae Hong Son loop. The hotel did not dissapoint. This place totally caters to cyclists and is generally nice. The staff are super helpful and they have a professional set of bicycle mechanic tools free to use. They gladly let me store my bicycle box while I am on my tour which was much appreciated. The rooms are really spacious and set up for self catering. I can completely recommend this hotel.
