Capella Hanoi has garnered acclaim for its sumptuous amenities and personalized service, with guests often lauding its comfortable quarters, fitness center, and exquisite dining options. The hotel's 1920s-inspired decor and ambiance, complete with live jazz, craft an atmosphere of opulence, although it may strike some as excessively flamboyant.
Nestled in a prime location, the property allows easy exploration of local attractions. While its immaculate cleanliness receives high marks, opinions on its overall value show greater variance, with some questioning the balance between cost and luxury.

We stayed 5 nights at the Capella Hanoi in a Deluxe Suite. The hotel is located central for all key attractions - Opera House, Old Quarter, French Quarter - all the key areas for Hanoi visitors are readily walkable. The hotel is immaculately clean and very beautiful: greenery and flowers, artwork, plush seating arrangements, pleasant lighting - even the air inside is subtly scented by fresh flowers and puts guests at ease immediately. The staff, from the chauffeur who picked us up at the airport to the porters, receptionists, the Culturist team, maids, waiters, spa therapists - everybody we encountered was a consummate professional and not merely someone working in a hotel. It was clear that people took pride in working for arguably one of the very best hotels in Vietnam and showcasing high-end Vietnamese hospitality at its very finest. People were warm, friendly, very efficient and above all competent - it is clear that for Capella Hanoi staff, no query is too difficult to consider.
The Auriga Spa area is beautiful and an oasis of calm - I recommend especially booking yourself the thermal suite with steam room, sauna and cold plunge pool. You can book it for 30 minutes at a time and it's completely private - no sharing with anyone else. It was fantastic and the plunge pool is invigorating.
We also booked tickets for the water puppet show through the hotel and they got us some of the best seats in the house (front row, unobstructed view, no need to wait in line, just pick up your tickets from a helpful gentleman next to the booking desk). A day trip to Ha Long Bay was likewise great - our boat was private and the guide extremely knowledgeable about Vietnam's history, customs, dos and don'ts - please remember to bring cash to tip the boat crew, driver and guide. While tipping is not customary in Vietnam and not normally expected, people working as guides, drivers or entertaining tourists on small boats don't make a lot of money and getting a little extra for their exceptional service makes a big difference to their families.
We also had a tea ceremony at Koki, where we were guided through three types of Japanese teas, preparation methods and the vast differences in taste that can be achieved through different brewing methods, temperatures and of course the skill of the tea master.
I could go on about how great it was - there is really nothing I could criticise, even if I tried, it genuinely was excellent.

Dear Benjamin B, It's heartening to learn about your recent immaculate experience at Capella Hanoi. I truly appreciate your detailed review, it is exactly what we want our guests to feel and experience: hospitalized and attentive service, excellent facilities, unique experiences, leaving the present behind to discover a world of spellbinding elegance and the cherry on top, raising a toast and reminiscing the captivating tales behind opera’s luminary icons and oeuvres when you walk through the door of our Capella house. Thank you for your high praises for our people, who are always there to ensure our guests have the absolute best experience. Benjamin B, it would be our pleasure to welcome you back for more treasured memories. In Appreciation, Hildegard Anzenberger

Easily the best hotel I have ever stayed at - if I could give it 10 stars I would! It is a destination in itself and you will not want to leave.
The service is impeccable and starts even before you arrive. When you initially book the team contact you to ask if they can assist in any way with bookings, recommendations and transfers.
Once I actually arrived Jonathan and all the staff were so incredibly warm and welcoming, and this standard of service is constant from check in to check out. It is a luxury hotel but the service is far from obsequious or stuffy, rather all the staff are so personable, approachable and nothing is too much trouble.
The detail focus is just incredible as well - the turn down service for instance laid out my slippers for me and even had small little leather wraps to secure around your cords to keep them neat and tidy. The detail extends to the amazing decore too - on level 7 for instance, in the hall outside the lifts the light fixtures are drums in line with the musical theme of the hotel. There is so much to look at in terms of the design- it is majestic, Gatsby-esque and over the top and dramatic in the best possible way.
Also note - there is SO MUCH complimentary snacks and drinks here - whatever you do - do not come with a full stomach!
I was lucky enough to get upgraded to an Opera Suite and it was gob-smackingly beautiful - I almost had to pick my jaw up off the floor as I was in such awe. I have never stayed in such a beautiful room. There was also a complimentary opera cake waiting for me in the room upon check in and it was delicious.
On the topic of food- breakfast is a wonderful affair. I just wish I could have stayed longer so I could try everything on the menu. Everything I tried was scrumptious and fresh. They do have a selection of fruit, pastries and meats/cheeses etc but most of the substantial breakfast items are made to order which I really rate as it is fresh but also would help to reduce food waste. They also have a few different milk types and even have apple cider vinegar which is a bit more niche. Also special mention to the raspberry donut, the salt coffee and the fresh mango which were all top notch.
The amenities are absolutely stunning - the pool, gym and sauna/steam room are all on theme and offer that glam 1920's opulence.
The only thing I would note - the hotel organised an airport transfer for me upon my arrival and it was 500,000 Vietnamese dong (roughly $30 AUD). They also were kind enough to arrange a transfer for me back to the airport upon check out - and I didn't ask about price beforehand and just presumed it would be the same. The driver without me knowing opted to use the meter, which I didn't realise until we arrived at the airport and also added on some kind of airport fee. All in all - it was not much extra - i think I probably ended up just paying $10 AUD more . This is more just something to be aware of when booking your transfers. This is not a criticism of the hotel by any means - as it is on me for not enquiring about the price beforehand - (and is probably a criticism of the taxi driver if anything) - but just wanted to add this in case it assisted someone else.
Thank you to the Capella for a stellar stay!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
Our favorite hotel in the world. And that is not an easy claim. The service, the attention to detail, the quality of furnishings, the food, everything is world class at the Capella.
Room: We stayed six nights in the Deluxe Suite and were ready to abandon the remainder of our trip to stay six more nights. The room was huge, beautifully appointed in a 1920’s opera theme and had a dual living area/bedroom, both with Juliet balconies. The bathroom is exquisitely floor to ceiling marble and the waterfall shower was a perfect respite from a long, hot day in Hanoi. Pro Tip: If you’re sleep sensitive like I am, request a room on the back side of the hotel. Even though the Capella sits in a quiet part of the French Quarter, there is still a main street running alongside the hotel.
Food: We ate every breakfast, two lunches and two room service meals at The Capella. The food was a touch upscale while still being extremely authentic. My wife isn’t a big fan of Pho, yet ate Pho at breakfast every morning, their broth was so rich and delicious. All of their menus included western offerings, but we didn’t stray far from their Vietnamese meals. Their Bun Cha was as good as the Bun Cha we ate up in the Old Quarter.
Service: This is where the Capella really shines. Everyone from Dennis the GM to Chien, Huy, Hue, Ming - the entire staff treated us like royalty for six straight days. What a special team of people. Much like the overall people of Hanoi, the team was so warm, friendly and helpful.
Overall, I would very highly recommend the Capella as not only the top tier hotel in Hanoi but anywhere in the world. The hotel styling and luxury-but-vintage 1920’s opera theme are remarkable, but the service and the people really make the Capella special.

We're absolutely thrilled you had an amazing time during your long stay at Capella Hanoi and your shoutout to Chien, Huy, Hue & Minh is the best encouragement for my magical team, who always there to ensure our guests are well pampered and cared for throughout their visit at our house. Hanoi is widely known as a rising star on the culinary tourism map and Backstage is one of our restaurants being listed in the Micheline Guide. We're stock that the Champagne Ala Carte Breakfast is to your liking. Thank you for sharing the love for Capella Hanoi – we loved seeing you arrive and we were saddened to see you go however we know that if we did a great job with delivering experiences then the going just makes coming back. One of best hotels I have ever stayed at. There is no detail too small they haven't considered from the free afternoon tea, concial hat painting for the kids in the afternoon, wicker handbag you can use during your stay, leather clips to wrap your chargers. The rooms are all individually handpainted with the most amazing bathrooms (so welcoming you want to stay in for afternoon to have a bath with salts provided) and buckets of kombuca on arrival along with a beautifully stock spirits bar.
The food in all the restaurants was amazing - breakfast, dinners - catering for global travelers. The Hudson room on top floor is ideal for happy hour. We also used the spa and pool, again not only was service great but the handpainted walls and opulence of the rooms made for the experience. Thr staff couldn't have been more helpful with general manager actively greating people.

Our stay at the Capella in Hanoi was extraordinary, nothing more could be asked for from such an exquisite hotel, wonderful rooms, suites, impeccably decorated in the theme of the Opera, with complete equipment, food area, rest, fantastic bathroom, and a very comfortable living room. We stayed five nights and there was not a single negative aspect. Located in the French Quarter, in front of the Metropole and the square, a few meters from the Hanoi Opera, its location is perfect, near the lake, an area to walk, avoiding the motorcycles as always in Hanoi. The hotel has a restaurant, an American-style steck house on the roof, very good food, and a wonderful wine list. The Vietnamese restaurant on the ground floor also serves as a coffee shop for breakfast and is beautiful. Outdoor terrace, and bar with excellent coffee, apart from the lounge with complimentary drinks on the ground floor for all guests, with live music at night. To highlight its extraordinary indoor pool, a true gem, which we use every day. Very professional, friendly and attentive staff. Discreet luxury with the impression that you are at home.

After two marginal nights across the street at the Sofitel Metropole, I was excited for my night at the Capella. I've heard really great things about their properties but had yet stayed in one. I was not disappointed with the Hanoi location.
The property is practically brand new. Everything looks immaculate here. Check-in was a breeze and we were taken to our rooms. The hotel is opera themed, and each room is named after a different artist. The rooms were beautifully done, and I like that each room had a separate powder room. The mini bar was stocked, and all snacks and non-alcoholic drinks were included. I absolutely love when hotels include drinks. Why can't all properties tack on an extra $50 or so per night and do this? The thing that really caught my eye was that each room had a French Press and Rok manual espresso maker. To the coffee geek, like myself, this was an absolute dream!
All non-alcoholic drinks even in the lobby/lounge area were included with the rate. I again found this so convenient, and their drinks (tried Vietnamese coffee, and Boba tea) were spectacular. They even have a dessert tray with yummy looking treats. Breakfast was not as big as the one at the Sofitel, but it was of equal quality. The menu you could order off of was extensive. I had pho and oysters, and both were excellent. The coffee offerings at the lounge were mind blowing. It was like having a specialty cafe right there with pour overs, siphon brewed, French press, and the usual espresso shots. Service was #1 with all the staff we encountered, and we received some of the best I've experienced in my years of traveling. Everybody was so kind and helpful. A lot of thought was put into this property, and I really enjoyed and appreciated every bit of it. As a cool parting gift, they gave us a bookmark that matched the artist suite/room we stayed in.

Dear markyP8507CW, Warmest greetings from your Capella home in Hanoi city. It is a privilege to receive your gracious remarks over your visit. We are delighted that you appreciated every inch of our hotel and were awestruck by the atmosphere we crafted for you. Capella Hanoi is a triumph of Bill Bensley, the so-called "maestro of architecture on a global scale." This revelry palace was inspired by Opera during the Roaring Twenties, as you may have noticed. We sincerely regret that your dining experience at our restaurant did not reach your expectations. Capella Hanoi aspires to deliver the greatest quality of service and customer satisfaction at all times; this incident will serve as a lesson from which we will learn and develop. From the bottom of our hearts, markyP8507CW, we hope to see you again in the near future. In Appreciation, Dennis Laubenstein General Manager

This place is probably fine if you stay in a lower cost room and then enjoy some of the freebies etc but for a suite and a more luxury experience you should avoid it. They have a place called the Library (think more club lounge) but it’s open to all guests and there is a reluctance to offer what’s included. You are meant to receive some small savoury eats but often it was such a fight to get them and when they did arrive laughably SMALL is very appropriate word for them. Communication is often poor and eventually you get too frustrated so you give up. We hardly went back after that. We found service was well meaning but often completely incompetent and the general manager seemed to just swat aside any issues rather than resolve them. We felt like a nuisance to her. The place just felt a little pretentious and insincere - it think they referred to themselves as curators or something like that but often basics were ignored.
We had a terrible meal at their main restaurant (worst throughout our Vietnam stay) and would recommend you go to Luk Lak, 5 minutes away and at less than half price. Breakfast was fine but not on a par with many luxury hotels. Decor verges on Disney theme park rather than classy and this designer has much better hotels - go to the Siam in Bangkok or the Rosewood in Luang Prabang to see over the top design done well and tastefully.
It’s depressing when you spend so much money and you don’t enjoy it at all and the General Manager and most of the staff could not care less. She needs to spend more time training her staff better but the lesson is don’t come if you want a luxury experience since they have no idea how to offer it although they have a full understanding of how to charge for it.

The service was always impeccable and attentive and we enjoyed all interactions.
Strangely the two things we love which topped other hotels similar offerings.
1. Branded Cable tidies in Leather (much nicer than usual velcro)
2. Silky eye mask in a capella branded bag.
Small touches but sometimes that’s makes the difference.
There is so many positive things to say about the hotel, but you get the idea.

I travelled to Vietnam for the first time in September 2024 to celebrate my friends wedding. I had the pleasure of spending two nights at Capella Hanoi, and the whole team did absolutely everything possible to ensure I had the most memorable stay.
The Auriga Spa is incredible. I enjoyed two treatments, and both times I was amazed by the level of expertise from the therapists, and the genuine service I was offered. The pool and fitness attendants were so kind and helpful, and the facilities were immaculate. The gym is very well equipped and I loved trying the steam room, sauna and ice bath. The pool area is so relaxing. I could’ve spent hours there.
The Culturist team went above and beyond to help me plan a tour, and even went so far as to find a particular book translated into English for me when I wasn’t able to find it in store, and have it delivered to me in the hotel. I couldn’t believe it. I cannot thank you all enough.
I really wish I had more time to spend at this hotel and I truly cannot wait to visit again.
