This was a nice, cheap hotel that was reasonably located in a busy area near to markets and restaurants, but not too close to major tourist sites. The rooms were good, with comfortable beds and good air-con, and a small balcony that gave a nice...More

The hotel is located in an quite vibrant area in the middle of Hanoi where you might need to get used to at the beginning. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is really lovely and wants you to feel welcome and home! I...More
This place is a gem in Old Quarter Hanoi. The staff was very lovely and the buffet breakfast was the best we have experienced in 3 weeks in Vietnam. The rooms were big and we even got an upgrade to have a view. We felt...More

I've spent New Years in Hanoi and had the exact same schedule as you. I stayed in little Hanoi diamond which is very close to most of the points of interest and very affordable. Just the standard rooms are very noisy because they stay on the same ground as the kitchen, so I would avoid picking these rooms.
We took one of the Galaxy Cruises with 12 cabines, and most of them include pick and drop off facility. They are not very expensive given that you book in advance.
As I wanted to keep my luggage in the hotel, I payed for the overnight stay at little Hanoi to ensure I would have a room on my return from Halong Bay. But they could also keep my luggage in storage room if I wish.
Hope it helped !
Enjoy Halong bay! It's definitely a sightseeing trip with the most amazing view of Hanoi
