What they don't tell you is that this is a condo/hotel. Each room is owned privately. So amenities and decoration is strictly up to the owners. The first room we were placed in had duct tape at the bottoms of the doors and around the windows. Food was left in the toaster oven, lighting in the room was poor. The office staff was wonderful and moved us to a different room. It was like night and day in the appearance. The second room was cleaner and looked like what I expected. Still, had some issues, like the light in the kitchenette did not work. Any repairs must be approved by the owners before they can be done. This can take several days. For the price for a week, I would look elsewhere on the boardwalk.
The hotel is well situated next to the famous lake where we enjoyed the ambiance. Everything is readily accessible. The restaurants nearby are wonderful treats. Good breakfast, warm service, the staff is very helpful and the price is affordable. Thomas Nguyen has also organized a beautiful trip for us covering the whole country from north to south (Mai Chau, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Dalat, Ho Chi Minh City, and Phu Quoc). The whole programe is well thought out and we really enjoyed our vacation. Thank you very much Thomas.
I booked this hotel through Hotels.com in Sept 2013 and then arranged directly with the hotel via email for airport pickup plus notified them our train tickets would be delivered to reception. On arrival I was pleased to find the tickets waiting for us and the room as pictured on the website. However I was extremely disappointed to find that so many facilities listed when I booked did not in fact exist. Most have since been deleted from booking sites so I won't comment further on them. I will note that our accommodation did not have a "separate bedroom"; the "separate sitting room" was just one lounge chair jammed between the bed and the window; and the "separate shower" was actually a shower over the bath. Moreover we did not get the advertised bathrobes, balcony nor cooking facilities and the "free items from the minibar" were one teabag and one coffee sachet on arrival plus a couple more during the week. The overwhelming problem with our room, however, was the bad smell emanating from the leaky bathroom which hit us as soon as we unlocked our door and caused our clothes to smell. Our room was serviced only a couple of times in the entire week and, despite Lynda and Snow at reception being lovely helpful girls, they could not provide the "Please Make Up My Room" card they promised. The floor was filthy the entire time. There were also piles of hotel laundry (dirty and clean) constantly stored on the landing outside our room. The buffet breakfast was varied and very good as was the location with just a 5-10 minute walk to the lake. I notice they claim the old hotel was renovated in 2011. Our bathroom certainly did not get a total makeover at that time and needed attention. Beware that the current changing of the hotel name from New Star to Crystal does not justify it being a "BRAND NEW HOTEL" as they are now advertising. From my experience I cannot trust this hotel and therefore cannot recommend it despite the front of house staff being so lovely.…
The staff here are wonderful...the service is great..but the stench of damp in the elevator is revolting...please sort this out quickly!...you are too good a place to allow this unfortunate smell! They helped us plan tours and were very friendly.
We spent 4 nights over the lunar new year, beginning from new year's eve. The receptionist said he was sorry that there was no one to clean up because it was new year, but promised the room would be cleaned the next day. No, the room had never been cleaned for the entire time we stayed there, and no clean towels (we needed clean ones because of the humidity) were delivered. We had to go down to ask for them every night.
