We stayed here in March 2020 as part of a Group Tour.

The Hotel is very conveniently located in District 1, and just around the corner from the Ben Thanh Street Food Market as well as the massive Ben Thanh Market. Japan-town is located at the end of the block if you are keen for sushi, udon and izakaya meals.
Plenty of foot massage places, convenience stores and ATMs too.
Easy walking distance to museums, landmarks and the big modern shopping centres Vincom Plaza, Takashimaya and Saigon Centre.

The hotel is old and basic and tired.
The staff aren't particularly welcoming or friendly but will help if needed/asked.
We stayed in 2 rooms at this hotel during our trip. Both were quite small but functional. They are not the type of rooms in which you want to stay and relax; they suit the purpose of having somewhere reasonably clean and very convenient to sleep.

The breakfast room on the top floor was cramped and crowded and the food was awful. Not recommended.

The pool is tiny and the pool lining is coming away from the shell. This means there are bubbles and bumps in the pool. The pool rooftop area does give good views of Ho Chi Minh city but there isn't enough area for seating or relaxing.

If we return to Ho Chi Minh we would look for a better standard of accommodation in District 1.

Comfy room and good facilities. Breakfast was great! Good location. Room was quite dingy though and there were stains on sheets on arrival. Great views from the rooftop and breakfast was served on the 17th floor. Good base for exploring Ho Chi Minh.

Only stayed one night as booked by Tui as part of a tour. This Hotel has an excellent location. Right near the Ben Thahn market. The bed was very comfortable and a very good shower. However the walls were very thin and we heard our neighbours moving about, flushing the loo and plugging things in. They arrived at midnight and it felt like they were talking in our room and when they got up at 5am they woke us again. My friends who were staying there at the same time said the same. On the 10th floor overlooking the road but no street noise whatsoever. Usual standard buffet breakfast with lots of choice on 17th floor. Very small swimming pool which we didn't use on the same floor.

This hotel is located in a great area for visiting the Ben Thanh market and other attractions nearby. The staff were very welcoming and amenable. My room was on the 8th floor and though the area is quite lively, at night it was pin drop quiet for sleeping. For the price and location of this hotel I couldn’t ask for more. I would definitely stay here again.

If Golden Star hotel is 4 star, rating itself need to be reviewed. If that be so, Hotel Sunvey, Hanoi should be 7 star. Golden star hotel was our worst experience in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city). Rooms are too small, ill designed, poorly illuminated rooms (no ceiling lights, just 3 table/stand lamps with cheap shades. As for guest services, my sister’s room AC did not work the whole night. Repeated complaints fell on deaf years. The sweated whole night. Had to ask travel agent to change hotel for the rest two nights. Hotel seem to be popular amongst travel agents (perhaps for highly discounted tariff they get). It appears to be a poorly refurbished old property.

Would not advise anyone to stay there, not at least mistaking it for 4 star one. It doesn’t deserve even 2 star if there is any category like that.

We were supposed to be upgraded to 4 star accommodation on our tour. This hotel misses that mark by a very long way. It is old and tired and badly in need of maintenance. Some really basic things like the soap tray in the shower that is on a slope that ensures the soap will slide off and a towel rail that was barely clinging to the wall. Edges of the old and worn carpet were also coming up creating a trip hazard. These are just a few examples.
Staff were not overly helpful and the breakfast was, at best, ordinary.
Its sole redeeming feature, and the only reason I didn't give it a 1-star rating, is its location which is very handy to markets, restaurants and shops.

Hotel in need of updating. Air conditioning, bathroom fan, switches not working well/not at all. Fridge worked ok. Stayed here with Gadventures tour. Roof top pool small and clean but nowhere/no one available to order drinks from. Breakfast served on the highest level, basic but edible. There was a restaurant area just below that was never opened. Hotel porter staff were helpful if not very happy. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Location was ok. Personally not somewhere I would have booked.

Great Hotel centrally located. Walking distance to numerous famous sites and markets.
Great staff. Gym is basic, 1 x machine and the bar has been closed. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and sandwiches through the day, I believe this happened during the peak of Covid. Having said that, there are tons of restaurants within metres.

Hotel is in a nice location close to the night market and street food place. Also there are Indian restaurants and other attractions at a walking distance. The Hotel room was quite compact and cozy.Breakfast packed for our flight was very minimal (just 1 orange,1 small cupcake,2 slices of plain bread (really plain no butter, no jam).Otherwise breakfast in the hotel buffet was vast and had a good variety.

Stayed at this hotel for one night as part of a TUI tour from Phu Quoc to Saigon. Hotel is well located and pretty central to everything, food market just around the corner. Hotel is pretty dated and rooms are adequate if small and somewhere to sleep and wash but that’s about it, we wouldn’t want to stay for more than one night. The bar on top floor has good views of Ho Chi Minh City and is worth having a couple of drinks seeing this sight. Breakfast next day was nothing special.
