Hue was our second stop on our trip to Vietnam. We researched the hotels in the city and La Residence was the one that we chose. The hotel looked lovely in an art deco style and was beside the river. One of the main attractions was the array of experiences which were shown on the website. I have never seen a more appealing set of day/half day tours. It was a hard choice to make as they all made a strong case. Unfortunately our stay coincided with a sharp downturn in the weather and that was a bit disappointing but outside anyone’s control. We were aware that the weather could be poor but the forecast for our trip was reasonably warm and bright, sadly it was overcast and wet so anyone travelling to Hue in January should bear that in in mind. The hotel was very tastefully designed and as fans of art deco we loved it. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. One thing to know is that there were no usb wall sockets. We didn’t have a charger, only leads, but we were able to borrow a charger from reception. There is a very nice shop /boutique at the hotel and an art gallery which we enjoyed visiting. The spa was stunning and the treatments we had were super, thanks very much to Tan and Vi, we wished we had availed of it more. The gardens and pool area looked lovely but the weather meant we couldn’t really appreciate them. The hotel has one restaurant, Le Parfum, which is large, meaning that the tables were well spaced,a fact that we really liked. We had arrived at the hotel after a very frustrating trip from Hanoi and decided to have lunch. The restaurant was empty apart from ourselves as I assume most guests were out on trip/tours. Le Parfum is an all day restaurant with a very extensive menu which remained the same throughout our visit. Sadly we got off to a bad start as neither of us were impressed with our lunch to say the least and we were disappointed. We decided to try and eat out for dinner but got mixed up in our directions and walked away from the central area of the city where most restaurants are situated. So we arrived back at Le Parfum, hungry and wet. Our dinner was a marginal improvement on lunch and the wine list although not extensive was well chosen and priced. The next morning we had booked an all day city tour and went to Le Parfum for breakfast. Here we were happy to find that the previous day must have been ‘One of those days’ for us as the breakfast buffet was very nice with a variety of dishes including a lot of local options. On our return from our tour we went for dinner at Le Parfum and met the lovely Hieu who really helped us so much. My wife is a vegetarian , and the menu did not cater as much for vegetarians as we had hoped , but the chef offered to get her dishes from now on to be ‘off menu’ or adapted to suit her tastes. Hieu briefed the rest of the staff and they all knew to do the same for the duration of our stay. Coupled with her sense of humour and observation, Hieu was outstanding and really was a star. All staff at the hotel were very friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel was more laid back than the other hotels we stayed at in Hanoi and Saigon and that also was reflected in the city which of course is much smaller than the others. Hue may be smaller but it is a cultural paradise. The tours we had reflected both modern history and that of earlier eras and were both exceptional. Ms Anh took us on an all day city tour which was amazing, we learned so much and enjoyed every stop especially the Citadel which is directly across the river from the hotel. Our second tour was to the DMZ which of course dealt with more recent times. Tam,our guide, had lived through this period and was able to add many personal experiences to the tour. It was a superb tour and the lunch provided at a local restaurant was excellent. Both tours were very lengthy with the DMZ trip involving a lot of time in a very (comfortable ) car. On our last day we availed of the finally dry weather to walk into town along the river. It was a very nice walk indeed with plenty to see and we thoroughly enjoyed it. If the sun had shone it would have been spectacular. The hotel is perfectly situated for anyone coming to Hue. On our return we had a light lunch at the bar which is very nice and with friendly staff. Then we had our spa treatment to finish off our stay, excellent. For a stay in Hue , La Residence is superb. Ps The weather apparently can get extremely hot in summer .

We had a great 3 night stay here. We arrived early off the overnight train and our room was prepared for us so we could access it within half an hour. We were also upgraded to a river view room. The room was lovely and comfortable with a nice large bed. We had a lovely balcony but none of the balconies appear to have chairs which is a shame. Great breakfast selection and very enjoyable. All the staff were smart and professional. Extremely helpful and friendly too. We were given a voucher for a free drink which was very welcome. All in all a great stay and would recommend this hotel. A great oasis from the busy city.

We arrived on Good Friday for 3 nights. We had organised to be picked up from Da Nang airport and had a super comfortable transfer in a huge air conditioned car with chilled water and cold towels. We travelled the mountain route which was stunning. The hotel itself is in a beautifully restored colonial building with lovely gardens next to the river. From the moment we arrived the staff were absolutely delightful and welcoming. Our room looked over the garden to the river and had a lovely balcony. Our room rate included afternoon tea which was delicious and was served wherever we wanted. There was a nice selection at breakfast including local specialities. The lady on reception organised a driver and guide to the main UNESCO sites at a very reasonable cost. We were surprised that there were still so few tourists as restrictions had only been lifted a few weeks before. We loved the city and the surrounding area and the hotel made it a perfect trip. A big thank you to all the staff who made it such a wonderful stay. We have travelled quite a bit but the staff here are the nicest we have had anywhere.

We stayed at the Azerai on the recommendation of our travel operator. Superficially it’s modern, due to a recent refurb, and the rooms look well appointed.
Be careful which room you select. Those at the front overlook a busy road. The traffic noise is quite noticeable, as is pollution, and the view is not great. Also we were offered a room with a shower over the bath and a tiled surround. I’m relatively short and struggle with this arrangement so we asked for another room.
Due to the lack of Chinese visitors we managed to get an upgrade to a river view room on the top floor in one of the two new wings. This was much nicer and the balcony view over the river gave us a nice spot to sit in the evening and having coffee when we woke up.
The rooms have good beds and coffee making facilities but the bathroom is a weak point. There’s insufficient water pressure to run a shower and use a basin simultaneously.
There’s no storage space. Absolutely no drawers and a single, tiny wardrobe. The double basins allowed for no room to lay out toiletries and there’s nowhere to hang towels or dry underwear.
The service in the bar area is very slow and the restaurant soulless. We ate twice for dinner but only because the local places were quite scruffy and the road into town too busy to walk.

On a weekend trip to Hue and Danang, I had the pleasure of staying one night at Azeria La Residence as well as a larger, chain resort in Danang—the former being the better!
The word “curated” is overused these days, but I think the word is apt to describe Azerai La Residence. The property is an elegant mix of French colonial and art deco design with the two “newer” wings of the hotel blending seamlessly with the original.
The common areas as well and the rooms and balconies were spotless (and dustless) at all times—a difficult feat in Vietnam.
The amenities in the room felt top shelf (a new Nespresso machine, an assortment of nuts, evening treats etc). It all felt and looked like a cut above.
What I liked most about the hotel was the wonderful, complementary afternoon tea that is a lunch in and of itself. I also appreciated the $25 that was given to us to use on the property (we used it at La Parfum restaurant). There are also complementary bikes to use to explore the city.
Service here was solid too. Someone was always around to assist, but was never intrusive.
Between the care given to the property, tea time, quality of food at the restaurants as well as the relaxing salt water swimming pool, you can tell that Azerai is an offshoot of Aman.
Having been to all three Azerai hotels in Vietnam, I'd say this one is the best.
If or when I come back to Hue, I’d certainly stay here again.

It was so good to see the photo on which we had partly based the choice of this hotel was in fact even better as a real life night time visual. Once inside the reception areas, the grounds and the dining spots were all of a high standard and the staff did their best to make our stay really memorable. The hotel is really well positioned for a variety of trips and there's a wealth of local restaurants nearby. Breakfast was not the best we had in our two weeks but still really varied and well presented.

We had a great 3 nights in the hotel, the room was clean and spacious and the breakfast good. The reception & lobby are very art deco, if a little lacking in atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. This is a great choice in Hue as it's on the opposite side of the river to the citadel and we found it peaceful and slept well. We were given a free drinks voucher on arrival which was appreciated as drinks prices in the hotel are relatively high. One of the better hotel experiences in Vietnam.

My husband stayed at 5-star hotels during our recent travels through Vietnam and Cambodia and the Azerai was our big surprise, surpassing the other more notable hotels. The exterior and common areas are clean and striking, the staff welcoming and service-oriented, and the guest rooms tastefully modernized in chrome, gray-hued drapes and generous balconies overlooking the Perfume River. Hue is a lovely city our visit to which wa made even more enjoyable by the return to this hotel. My only truck is with the restaurant. Although it grows organix produce for the table, the hotel restaurant is only average. It needs to find itself; my suggestion is to prepare its native cuisine in a more creative way.

The hotel is ideally located on the banks of the perfume river facing the citadel of the imperial city of Hue. The building is a beautiful art deco structure with great rooms, many of them having a big terrace facing the river and the citadel. All areas are nicely decorated and the hotel is full of elegant charm. The spa is rather small but has everything including steam rooms and saunas, overall a very cozy and elegant area to relax. The outdoor pool is huge, great for a serious swim and has a nice bar. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in its restaurant are very good, in the evening dinner outside on the terrace by the river is not to be missed. All staff are very friendly, helpful and greatly service oriented.

This meticulously renovated art-deco hotel is 5-star from service to amenities to room. The restaurant has some of the best food we had in all of our travels throughout Vietnam. It's location on the Parfum River and away from the center of town, gives it an extremely peaceful, scenic setting. Double sinks in the bathroom vanity was such a luxury. Our massage at the spa was excellent. We would highly recommend a stay at this one of a kind hotel!
