I stayed here in November 2014 (my review says 2015, but that is wrong) I visited Istanbul and Capadocia for 10 days and I had a pleasant stay here at Taksim Sopha. The kiwi-owner Nathan is a very nice and welcoming person, and he really handpick the right staff. He does everything to make sure that his guests are having... More

Stayed here in the summer when it was owned by a nice kiwi guy. That changed to a very greedy new owner. Place is extremely dirty now. They smell bed sheets to decide if they should be changed between guests. Whatever you do, don't look under the bed. The receptionist is a young muscular bully. No more social life in... More

And spend some days there, a place full of great people all staying there for a longer time during their l long lasting trips, some stay and work there for a month. Great people, just the place needs some clean up ;) .. But then it wouldn't be that cheap.

We stayed luckily just one night and it was horible. Thw guests were unplasent and bad. The rooms were dirty and uncomfortable. The staff is okey and they speek English very good. The loby is dirty and smells bad. We rather ate at park then in the kitchen or lobby. We were veeeery happy to see a back of it.

We booked the private apartment room for four girls and had the best time. We all adore Istanbul and the location of this hostel/hotel was perfect. Equal distance between Taksim Square and the Galata Tower, both very quick walks away (no more than 10 mins), by Taksim Square there's a small taxi rank and they'll take you whether you need... We stayed at this hostel for three nights. We were planning to stay for four but decided to move on in the end. First impressions: Seemed like a cool place. The staff were friendly, except sometimes the supposed manager appears a little disinterested. Maybe he was bored. The place was actually fully booked but he was helpful in organizing a... More

The hostel is dim and dark.I can't believe people were staying there. I am happy with a clean basic hostel but this hostel is certainly not. They are also horrible people. The Turkish Lad on the reception was taking great pleasure talking down to people. Broken Toilet seat and a hole in wall of communal bathroom.1nightmare Toilet to use which also was... More

This hostel looks nice in the pictures but when I arrived it was poorly maintained. The countertops in lobby were dusty and stained with water circles and dried food. The kitchen was covered with gnats. The sofa cushions were all over the place. This was a Friday afternoon and conditions did not improve. The dorms were dark and damp like... More

Hi Thomas, Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, The day shift guy who was working was incredibly lazy and is no longer with us and as such the place is much cleaner and well organised. I had to admit we have a problem with fruit flies, I've tried so many things but they go for a week and then are... More

Great hostel, very nice people and a nice international vibe. They organize pub crawls, tours and are happy to give you recommendations on what so see/do in or around Istanbul. Basic, fine rooms, great location. A bit dfficult to find, just ask people on the street to show you the way.

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
