I've recently returned home from a weeks break in Istanbul, we stayed in the lovely Basileus Hotel. I have stayed in this hotel twice before and I always look forward to returning to it once again. The hotel has a lovely ambience and the interest and helpfulness of the staff is second to none. Selim or Ekrem are always at...

This is my fourth review of this hotel, we visited again in early October. The hotel is as welcoming as ever as are all the staff and the family Selim and Ekrem who run the hotel. I've raved about the place in my previous reviews and still feel the same way. It is a lovely hotel and feels like a...

We have stayed here before and will visit again. The family who run the hotel are warm and friendly and very, very helpful. The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk from the 'Blue Mosque' & the tramway. The rooms are clean and very comfortable.

We stayed here just for 1 night..though we wish we had booked a longer stay here. On the outside it looks like a small and ordinary hotel, but you feel the difference by stepping in. The fine folks running this property make a remarkable impression through their genuine friendliness and willingness to provide you help in all possible ways. The...

We were on a nine day vacation with my brother in Istanbul and chose Basileus hotel mainly for it's great location near the old city. The hotel turned out to be a very pleasant surprise for the price. The room we had was perfect for our needs. It was very clean and had all the amenities we needed (fridge, safety...

We were a party of four and booked two double rooms. Upon arrival, Omar immediately offered us refreshments. The rooms are very clean, and they provide maps and lots of tourist info and suggestions. The rooms were very clean. My only complaint was our room had the safety deposit box on the bottom of the armoire, and it was hard...

My mother and I just visited Istanbul. We had a great time exploring the city which was made easier by the useful tips we got from the hotel. The rooms we stayed in were spacious and clean and the huge breakfast spreads were a lovely way to start our day.

Comfortable, tidy hotel on a quiet side street near the Blue Mosque. Easy walking to the sights. Furnishings are more of a traditional Turkish style. Super friendly owners. Nice breakfast (including omelets to order).

This hotel is extremely clean, up to date, nicely decorated, well managed by two brothers. Breakfast was one of the best during my three months of travel around the world. Location is good too, about a ten minute walk from all: the tram; the Grand Bazar; Sultanahmet, The Blue Mosque and Hagra Sophia. Stay three nights and the hotel will...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
