We stayed in Hote Basileus in Istanbul for 4 nights from 28 May-1 June 2014. We were 2 families (5 adults and 3 children aged 11-13). It was a very pleasant experience, as the hotel was clean and tastefully renovated. It was very close to the man tourist attractions in the Old City (Sultanahmet). The owners were very helpful and...

This is a great option for a stay in Istanbul The location is great being only a few metres from Little Aya Sofia and a 5 minute uphill walk to the Blue Mosque There are a few reasonable eating and drinking establishments on the door step Our room was comfortable (although not huge!). The bed was firm but not too...

Hi, Me and my wife stayed at Basileus during our trip to Istanbul and must say it was the best hotel we chose for ourselves. The staff there is extremely co operative and makes you feel at home. Interacted with all 3 brothers (owners) there and they were all very helpful from guiding you to right places to cafes to...

This hotel is not only beautiful and in a very convenient location (walking distance from the major sights), it is also run by an extremely nice family- 3 brothers who take shifts at the front desk and I believe the mother helps with the breakfasts in the morning. We loved the cookies, cake, water and tea which was always available...

I stayed in Basileus hotel in April 2014 for one night when I had my transit point in Turkey before flying to the USA. It was earlier recommended to me so I decided to try it out. When I arrived at the hotel I fell in love with its location: tiny hilly stony streets reminding me of Istanbul I saw...

We won't look past this hotel next time we come to Istanbul again. The service you get from the three brothers running the hotel is fantastic. I wish we could take them with us wherever we go. Our room was nice, clean & it had everything we needed. The buff breakfast in the morning has a big selection of everything...

I wrote a review recommending Basileus Hotel three years ago. So far I have been to this hotel every time I visited Istanbul in the last years. The quality of stay was high in my first visit, and remained so in the following visits. What distinguishes this hotel from all hotels I have been to elsewhere the most is that...

I stayed here on my trip to Istanbul. I checked in late at night still one of the brothers who manage the hotel ensured a smooth check in. I dint have the Turkish currency and I was apprehensive to get my Euros exchanged at the airport at the fear of being duped. The hotel arranged to pay the taxi from...

A great hotel with superbly helpful staff who can't do enough to help guests. The location is excellent - just a few minutes' walk (uphill, but it's down on the way back!) from the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia, Baslicia Cistern (a 'must') and Topkapi Palace - and the room we had was fine: not huge, but perfectly OK, and very...

Our favorite hotel of our three week Turkey trip. What sets this hotel apart from the competition are the staff -- they will do whatever is necessary to assure your Istanbul experience is a good one. The airlines lost my bag (although not my wife's) and Omar took charge, calling the airlines repeatedly until eventually (4 days later!) my bag...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
