This hotel is amazing. It really is "Home from Home". Their hospitality is phenomenal and the owners can't do enough to assist you. I am a retired Company Director and I have travelled to many places around the world and stayed in many different hotels, but this one stands out as something rather special. It has got to be Istanbul's...

Stayed here two nights in Istanbul. Taxi from IST was about 40t+tip. It's a boutique hotel so you don't get a rooftop view of the mosque like some other places, but we didn't feel like we lost out (1.5/10 on the annoying scale). Room itself was facing backside of building, nothing special. Location was fairly good (sultana met area, 7mins...

We have stayed at several hotels in Istanbul during the last few years - bigger and similar sized, but this one is excellent for sightseeing Istanbul and the staff is ever so friendly and helpful. Comparing the price with other hotels this one has the right price. The room we had on the 2nd floor was cosy, clean and had...

This was our first trip to Istanbul and Hotel Basilieus made it feel like a new home. All three brothers, as well as the staff, bend over backwards to make your stay perfect. The rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. This is not a corporate hotel, it's a family run hotel. This means you're being taken into their home and...

The hotel is located close to all attractions in the old city, it is a 5 minute walk to the blue mosque. The family who run the hotel are very friendly, speak very good English & are very helpful arranging any activities, giving directions & arranging further transport requirements. We stayed in a superior room, lots of space, cleaned every...

Omar and his family do a great job running this hotel. The hotel is walking distance from all of Sultanahmet attractions and Omar, Ekrem and other family members made us feel like we were their family guest. They helped guide us with all the activities we wanted to do in the city and recommended great places to eat. There is...

A very comfortable and friendly hotel. Perfect location for walking to all of the tourist locations. Our room was very clean and cosy with two armchairs, ideal for reading whilst having a complimentary cup of coffee after a day out. There are several very reasonably priced restaurants cose by. I would advise asking the hotel in advance to arrange a...

My wife and I spent 3 nights in March, 2014 at the Basileus Hotel in Istanbul. We also arranged for a airport transfer with the hotel. We were very pleased with our choices. The transfer went very smoothly and the hotel was exactly what we expected. Though old and somewhat dated, the hotel was very clean and the complimentary breakfasts...

Two mid 60 folk. Rather than rewrite all the good thing, take them as true. 5 metres from wine shop, 15 metres from excellent Cesme restaurant, 10 minutes walk to the mosques etc. Excellent advice and help, family feel. Can arrange anything . Hard to do better

My boyfriend and I stayed at Basileus for 4 nights in April 2014. The hotel was well located for the sites in Sultanahmet and had all the necessary amenities. Best part was the friendly staff who go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Recommended.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
