Location, location, location. Side Hotel is where you want to be as a tourist in Istanbul. Close to the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Hagia Sophia, yet priced so affordably you don't have to be wealthy to stay there. Rooms are plain but clean and the showers are great! Breakfasts are a good size with omelettes available for an...

Another super relaxing holiday, brilliant home made traditional Turkish cooking among good friends and fellow guests, the cat and dog had not changed a bit and entertained us all in the hot sunshine with temperatures rising above 42C. Even the unprecedented street riots in the old city could not ruin the holiday although did cause some disruption as city closed to traffic...

The Side Hotel is located in a great, safe area of the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. The Pension refers to the rooftop area that views in equal close distance from the hotel, both the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. They both are within a very short walk. The hotel is nothing too fancy so if you that is what you...

Located in the old town (within walking distance to many of the main sites- Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace and nearby to decent restaurants) Friendly, helpful staff with complementary tea whenever you like. Breakfast included, limited choice but okay. No lift access but only 3 flights of stairs. Roomy bedrooms with comfortable beds. We were recommended...

The side hotel is centrally located and easy walking distance to many historical sites of interest and the waterfront. The rooms are quaint and well maintained. Everything was always clean and in good working order. The provided breakfasts were very nice. You can see the water front and shipping lanes into Istanbul from the rooftop dining area. "Very Nice" This...

This hotel is amazing and perfect for women travelers going to Istanbul. We stayed in the hotel side - the rooms were spacious, clean and had air conditioning which is necessary in the summer! Its kind of like a balance between a hotel and hostel which was perfect for us because we are just a couple years out of college....

I stayed for three nights in June 2015. They were very responsive in making the reservation and organising an airport transfer. The rooms are simple but comfortable. The best feature is the location - it is less than a minute from the ayasofia and blue mosque

We loved sitting on the rooftop terrace eating the beautiful pastries and yoghurt. The owner and the people running the kitchen are so lovely and helpful. Rooms are basic but comfortable. So close to all the major sites in the Old City.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
